2.0.0: interview practice, outreach, and a new setup

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 31 Oct 03:23

Bishop now does three things. It still finds and ranks new roles on a schedule, and it now also helps you practice for interviews and work the network you already have. You pick which of the three you want when you set it up, and you can add the others later by asking.

Interview practice. Bishop builds you a core deck of the questions most interviews ask, plus a few about your own background. You write each answer in your own words, then practice it: Study to draft, and Test to answer from memory before you check. When an interview comes up, tell Bishop "I have an interview with" and the company's name, and it builds that company's deck, covering every round, with your core answers already in it. Each deck is one file that opens in any browser. Your answers save in that browser, and you can print a copy of all of them. Bishop won't write your answers for you: an answer in its words would sound like its words when you say it.

Outreach. Bishop shows you how to download your LinkedIn data, then gives you a board on your own computer that sorts your connections into groups worth contacting: people you've talked with, recruiters, HR and people leaders, executives, founders, and any group you add. You upload the file into the board yourself, so your contacts never pass through the chat. Set a stage for each person, and note each time you reach out or hear back. Bishop won't write your messages for you.

A new setup. Setup now opens with a short welcome, asks which parts you want, and runs them one at a time: job search, then interviews, then outreach. The questions are plainer, and there are new options for people early in their careers, including one for needing visa sponsorship later. If the folder you start in already has other files, Bishop offers to make a folder of its own. Bishop needs a paid Claude plan (Pro or higher).

Also new: C-3PO and BB-8 join the robots you can name Bishop after. Searches run at 7 in the morning unless you pick another time, and they run while Claude is open and your computer is awake.

Your existing search keeps working. To get 2.0, open Claude's Plugins screen and click Sync. To add interview practice or outreach to the search you already have, start a new conversation in your search's folder, say "Help me set up a job search," and pick Add a module.

1.9.0: six more employer boards

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 18 Oct 21:56

Bishop can now sweep more employers' own job boards. The named-employer sweep reads six more hiring platforms (SmartRecruiters, SAP SuccessFactors, Jobvite, Avature, ADP Workforce Now and Oracle Recruiting Cloud) on top of the five it already read, so an employer on your list whose careers page runs on one of them can be checked every cycle.

When an employer's board can't be found by name, Bishop now has a set procedure for it: follow the Apply button on one of their postings (it usually reveals which platform they use), and if that doesn't settle it, watch what the careers page loads in your connected browser to find the listing behind it. Boards on Workday resolve from an apply link, which fixes a case where a real board looked empty because it was being asked on the wrong Workday address.

Bishop also now checks a site's robots.txt and terms before adding its board, skips any that bar automated reading, and records why, so the same employer isn't re-checked next time. A board that was only partly read is named as such in the search's status instead of being reported as complete.

Nothing about how Bishop scores or ranks roles changed. Update from Claude's Plugins screen by clicking Sync.

1.8.2: a branded dashboard

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 12 Oct 00:22

Your dashboard has a new look. It opens on a branded header: your search's name in big block letters between two Bishop robots, with a short line on the latest search and a colored square for each place it looked. Green means it ran clean, blue means it hit a gap, white means it was skipped on purpose that run. Tap "Details" for the full list.

Below that, a short "since your last search" list says what changed, and the stage buttons show how many roles sit in each. Applied roles fold into one-line rows you can tap open, so the page stays short as your search grows.

If you let setup pick your search's name with "Surprise me," it now chooses from ten well-known robots, and each one has its own header. Any name you type yourself gets a clean header in the same style.

The page also works properly on a phone now, and it has light and dark versions that follow your device.

Nothing about how Bishop searches or scores roles changed. Already have a dashboard? After you Sync, ask Claude to rebuild your dashboard once to get the new look. Your regular searches keep whatever design is already there.

1.8.1: LinkedIn disclosure and pay check

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 25 Sep 15:51

Setup now tells you plainly that LinkedIn's User Agreement prohibits automated access and that LinkedIn restricts accounts it flags, so you can decide before connecting it. Say no and Bishop never touches LinkedIn; it still searches everywhere else.

Bishop also leans on your LinkedIn account less: link checks run logged out, and the social-feed scroll for people who post job lists is gone.

And a pay fix: a posting's salary can sit in LinkedIn's salary box or in the description. Bishop now checks both before marking a role "not disclosed."

1.8.0: plain-language weekly check

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 25 Sep 14:29

The weekly audit now sends you a short, plain-language check on whether your search is working: a green, yellow or red verdict, any yes/no decisions with a recommendation, and a list of what it already fixed. No codes. Your daily digest carries one line while a decision is waiting.

v1.7.1

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 13 Sep 16:54

Dashboard favicon fix.

The generated dashboard had no favicon, so the browser tab rendered a blank icon. The dashboard skill now writes an inline SVG data-URI favicon into the page head (defaulting to a robot 🤖, or the user's brand emoji if setup recorded one) and passes the same emoji to the artifact publish, so the tab shows an icon whether the page is opened directly or viewed as the artifact.

Existing published dashboards pick up the favicon on their next scheduled regeneration.

Install or update from the desktop app (Customize → Plugins → Sync), or attach-free trial with claude --plugin-dir bishop.zip.

v1.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 10 Sep 16:10

LinkedIn sweep robustness, ported from the live search. All three changes affect how a running search behaves.

  • The sweep runs twice and unions by default. The guest search endpoint returns a different, incomplete sample on every call, even for the identical query a minute apart, and this is a larger source of missed roles than the throttle, the sort, or the stem list. Measured on one bucket: three back-to-back runs returned 289 / 285 / 283 rows against a 399-row union, with 23% of roles appearing in only one of the three runs. linkedin_sweep.py now runs --passes independent sweeps (default 2) and unions by job ID; coverage rises ~71% → ~92% → ~98% across one/two/three passes, and the union is COMPLETE only if every pass paginated cleanly.
  • A throttle is retried before it's believed. The guest-endpoint block is intermittent, so a run of unreadable pages now bails the attempt fast and re-runs the whole bucket after a cooldown (up to --retries) before reporting INCOMPLETE — THROTTLED. Per-page short-page integrity catches a dropped page, and a deliberate --max-rows stop reports CUT AT n (policy), distinct from a coverage gap.
  • The ATS sweep retries an unreadable host before calling it a gap. A transient tool error on a single host silently drops that whole platform's roles. Re-issue the allowed_domains query for an unreadable host before logging it unread, and never close a cycle with Greenhouse unread when a retry is available.

v1.6.9

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 03 Sep 02:29

Docs-only release. No behavior change.

The install instructions in both READMEs described a plugin screen that no longer exists and told users to type /plugin commands into the desktop app's chat box, where they return "isn't available in this environment". People following the published steps could not find Bishop Job Search.

  • Desktop steps match the current app. Customize → Plugins tab → Add (top right) → Add marketplace → type adamhilliard/bishop → Sync → Install. The steps say to click Sync rather than press Enter, since Enter can select an autocompleted repository instead.
  • /plugin commands are terminal-only and are now labeled that way, with a warning that they do not run in the app's chat box.
  • bishop.zip is the fallback when Bishop Job Search does not appear after Sync: unzip it into your Claude skills folder and restart Claude. The zip attached here carries the corrected README.

1.6.8: Pre-launch audit pass

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 02 Sep 14:45

A pre-launch audit pass. All fixes, no new behavior.

  • Comp parsing. employer_sweep.py only matched exactly-three-digit thousands, so $95K, $95,000, and seven-figure $1,200,000 all read as "no pay stated" and let a below-floor role slip past the comp screen for any search with a sub-$100K floor. The regex now spans two-digit-thousands through millions.
  • Setup speech. The LinkedIn step no longer carries a raw {extension link} placeholder, and the employer-list question no longer reads a script name aloud; both move into notes to Claude.
  • Stale cross-references. search-techniques.md and feedback-loop.md stop pointing at the retired Q0–Q12 numbering that 1.5.0 replaced with sections A–G.
  • Smaller fixes. Reference-map file sizes corrected (the target of audit check E4), E7/E8 listed in order, usage and argument guards on jd2pdf.py and linkedin_sweep.py in place of an IndexError, and a one-word typo in the dashboard skill description.

1.6.7: Reach iCIMS employers the keyword sweep can't see

Choose a tag to compare

@adamhilliard adamhilliard released this 02 Sep 01:17

iCIMS listing pages are served noindex, so keyword and site: search never surface an iCIMS employer's fresh requisitions, even while older ones linger in the index and the host still returns a nonzero count that hides the gap.

  • employer_sweep.py gains an icims platform that fetches the tenant board directly (careers-<tenant>.icims.com) server-side, no auth or JavaScript, so the named-employer sweep catches iCIMS employers the keyword pass structurally cannot. Put iCIMS employers in your Employer_Index.md with platform icims and the tenant as the slug.
  • search-techniques.md documents the blind spot and the remedy, with the rule that a nonzero iCIMS site-search count is not proof of coverage.

Update via /plugin marketplace update, or download bishop.zip below for the no-marketplace path.
