v0.11.1 — remove the old version from the menu; updates for the .deb
What's new
- Remove the old version with one click. After the move from the
Python hushkey, the tray menu offers Remove the old hushkey version
while something of it is left: its Python environment (2–3 GB), the
engines it downloaded, and on Linux its old.deb— asking for your
password in the system's usual dialog, no terminal — or on Windows its
entry in Settings › Apps. Your settings, history and the native
models stay. - Updates for the
.deb. Installed from the.deb, hushkey now
offers new versions too: the next.deb, checked against
SHA256SUMSand installed after the password dialog. (A.deb0.11.0
does not know this yet: install this one once by hand.) - Windows: the Start Menu entry taken over from the Python version
could fail to start hushkey; it is repaired with this update. Settings
› Apps now shows the installed version after an update.

What's Changed
- hushkey as a native program, and a way over from the Python one by @aignermax in #53
Full Changelog: v0.11.0...v0.11.1
v0.11.0 — hushkey as one native program for Windows, Linux and macOS
What's new
hushkey is now one native program for Windows, Linux and macOS — no
Python, no virtual environment, nothing assembled on your machine. Same
idea as before: hold your key, speak, let go.
- Coming from an earlier version? Click Update in the tray as
usual: hushkey replaces itself with the native program and keeps your
key, language, model and recent dictations. On its first start it
downloads the speech model once more (about 1.5 GB for medium), as
the native engine (whisper.cpp) uses its own model files. If the
switch cannot finish, your old hushkey keeps working and it tries
again later. - Every GPU: NVIDIA, AMD and Intel through Vulkan on Windows and
Linux, Metal on the Mac — the CPU otherwise. - Linux on X11 needs no extra setup: without the
inputgroup the X
server reports the key and takes the paste. Wayland still needs the
group (the installer asks once). - Text arrives in one piece: pasted at once, so umlauts and other
special characters no longer end up in the wrong place in terminals. - Windows: listed under Settings › Apps, and uninstalls from there.

Full Changelog: v0.10.10...v0.11.0-rc.3
v0.10.10 — Linux/X11: pasting into Teams, Chrome and VS Code works again
- Linux/X11: dictations reach Teams, Chrome, VS Code and other Chromium/Electron apps again. Since paste became the default in 0.10.5, nothing arrived in these apps. Chromium reads the clipboard in several round trips, and hushkey gave the previous clipboard back after a fixed 0.4 s, often while Chromium was still reading. Chromium then drops the whole paste.
- hushkey now waits until the focused app has actually fetched the dictation and has stopped reading, and only then restores your previous clipboard. Windows already worked this way. Clipboard requests are answered at once instead of every 0.1 s.
- A clipboard manager that grabs every copy (GPaste, CopyQ, Parcellite, Klipper) can no longer start the restore too early, and no longer costs you your previous clipboard. Something you copy while a dictation is being pasted is kept (#52).
v0.10.9 — Linux tray updates finish without a sudo prompt
- Linux: tray updates run to the end again. Since 0.8.0 a tray update stopped partway through on any system that lacked one of
libvulkan1,mesa-vulkan-driversorlibportaudio2. The installer runs without a terminal, sosudocould not ask for the password. The source files were updated, but the acceleration setup, the service and the launcher were never refreshed, and the tray logged "update installer failed". - Every step that needs root now runs only when sudo works without a prompt, or a terminal can ask for the password. Otherwise the step is skipped and listed, and the tray shows once which command to run in a terminal. Missing optional packages (Vulkan, PortAudio) no longer block an update. A missing required package still stops it, and says why (#51).

v0.10.8 — Windows clipboard restore + Start Menu entry
- Windows: the clipboard is restored again after a dictation. Since 0.10.6 every dictation replaced whatever you had copied. hushkey now puts your previous text back once the target app has fetched the dictation, as in 0.10.5. To avoid the stale paste that made 0.10.6 drop this, the restore waits
PTT_CLIPBOARD_SETTLE(0.4 s) after the app's first read, and leaves anything you copied in the meantime alone. UWP apps (Calculator, Mail, ...) are now recognized as the paste target, and an unreadable previous clipboard no longer forces typing (#41). - Windows: hushkey has a Start Menu entry, so it shows up in Windows search and can be started again after Quit. Existing installs get it with this update.
uninstall.ps1now only removes entries that start its own install (#40).
v0.10.7 — Windows installer hotfix
Windows installer hotfix for 0.10.6.
- Fix
hushkey-setupfailing with "hushkey setup failed" on machines with Developer Mode on. Setup's RedirectionGuard reached install.ps1 and its Python children, which then could not follow huggingface_hub's cached-model symlinks (WinError 448). The per-user installer now turns the guard off (RedirectionGuard=no); it never requests elevation, so a normal install loses no protection. - Building the installer now requires Inno Setup 6.7.0 or newer and fails with a clear error on older compilers.
