Safety checked on a live AutoCAD, and a clear message when AutoCAD is busy.

What's new

• Clear "busy" message. If you're in the middle of a command (say LINE) or have a dialog open, AutoCAD refuses outside requests and Claude can't draw. Claude now tells you "AutoCAD is busy … press Esc, then retry" instead of the confusing AttributeError: <unknown>.Count.
• Safety promises tested live on AutoCAD 2026:
  • your own drawings stay locked (drawing on them and closing them are refused);
  • each Claude action is exactly one Ctrl+Z;
  • nothing is drawn while you're in a command or a dialog;
  • blocks and attributes, move, re-layer and delete, and save, close and open all work as described.

Install or update

• Claude desktop app (Chat and Cowork): download autocad-mcp-0.1.2.mcpb below (under Assets), double-click it and choose Install. It replaces an older version.
• Claude Code: quit Claude, run uv cache clean autocad-mcp, and start Claude again. New users: see INSTALL.md.

Then start AutoCAD and ask Claude: "Call acad_status and tell me what you see."

Works with: Windows 10/11 and full AutoCAD or a vertical (Architecture, Mechanical, Civil 3D …). Tested live on AutoCAD 2026 and 2027. Not AutoCAD LT, Mac or DWG TrueView.

Claude now names your AutoCAD correctly.

What's new

• acad_status reports the AutoCAD year, for example "AutoCAD 2026". Before, it passed on only AutoCAD's internal release number (25.1s), and Claude sometimes guessed the wrong year: it called 25.1 "2025", but 25.1 is AutoCAD 2026. The raw number is still included.
• Install guide: the Claude desktop app bundle needs nothing else installed (no uv) and works in both Chat and Cowork. Tested on Windows 11.

Install or update

• Claude desktop app (Chat and Cowork): download autocad-mcp-0.1.1.mcpb below (under Assets), double-click it and choose Install. If you have 0.1.0, installing this replaces it.

Known issue: Claude may name the wrong AutoCAD year from the raw version number (for example, calling 25.1 "2025"; 25.1 is AutoCAD 2026). Fixed in 0.1.1; please use that version.

Install

• Claude desktop app (Chat and Cowork): download autocad-mcp-0.1.0.mcpb below, double-click it and choose Install. Nothing else is needed; the app sets up Python itself. Claude will warn that it isn't signed by a known publisher; that's expected. Tested by double-click install on Windows 11, with acad_status working in both Chat and Cowork.
• Claude Code: install uv once (winget install --id=astral-sh.uv -e), open a new PowerShell, then run claude mcp add autocad --scope user -- uvx --from https://github.com/ajaquin8/autocad-mcp/archive/refs/heads/main.zip autocad-mcp

What it can do

32 tools: new and open drawings, layers, lines, polylines, arcs, circles, text, dimensions, blocks and attributes, moving, re-layering and deleting by handle, queries, screenshots of the view, and PDF plotting.

Safety

Your own drawings are locked unless you ask Claude to change one. Edits wait while you're in a command or dialog. Every action is one Ctrl+Z, and a failed action is rolled back. Saving and plotting won't overwrite existing files unless you agree. Raw command-line access is off.
