v3.2.1 — reliability

A small reliability patch on top of v3.2.0. No new features, no licence change, no surface removals.

What changed

  • Paths with spaces are handled safely. Session env files quote world paths; new and resume hooks are covered by path-with-spaces regressions. (#70)
  • Install instructions actually work. The README now documents the two-step flow — claude plugin marketplace add alivecontext/alive, then claude plugin install alive@alivecontext — in both install blocks. (#69)
  • Project phase parsing ignores narrative prose. Only an anchored, known phase: field is treated as structured; prose mentions fall back to narrative vocabulary. (#68)
  • Windows path handling is normalized. Native drive paths (backslash and forward-slash) convert to MSYS mounts in the Bash hooks. (#67, pending reporter retest)
  • Legacy templates and migration boundaries are repaired. Live-disk fallback requires walnut identity before treating a bundles/ directory as migratable; a v3 02_Life/_kernel path no longer triggers the v2 migration warning. (#66)
  • Statusline registration race softened. Fresh transcripts get a grace window during initialisation. (#65, partial — see known issues)
  • Completed and dropped tasks are listable from history. Save integrity behavior is locked by regression tests. (#60)
  • Resumed sessions recover safely. A resumed session with a missing squirrel record gets a new exact session record instead of borrowing another active session.
  • Bundle phase is read correctly. Manifest readers now read the phase: lifecycle key (with inline comments stripped) instead of pinning every bundle to draft. (#72)
  • Finished tasks are no longer urgent. tasks.py summary excludes done/dropped tasks from urgent/open counts and active-tier promotion. (#73)
  • Buyer-facing permission declaration. PERMISSIONS.md documents all 14 command invocations across 5 Claude Code hook event types.
  • Repository policy validator. scripts/validate-repository.py plus CI workflow enforce version agreement, MIT licence, two-step install documentation and surface retention.

What is NOT in this release

  • No Codex support. The Codex package remains a private alpha and is not included.
  • No relicense. The licence remains MIT. Ownership metadata is unchanged.
  • No Hermes removal. Hermes remains in the repository as a community/experimental surface.
  • No new features. The universal inbox and product-truth material are not part of this patch.

Verified on

  • macOS (Darwin 24.5.0), zsh, Python 3, local branch release/v3.2.1
  • Release suite: 32/32 tests passing (python3 -m unittest discover -s tests/release)
  • python3 scripts/validate-repository.py — passed
  • bash -n on all hook and statusline scripts — passed
  • git diff --check origin/main... — clean
  • Pending before tag: clean Claude Code install from archive, v3.2 → v3.2.1 upgrade, uninstall/rollback preserving the World, Windows reporter retest.

Known issues

  • #65 statusline: the subagent matcher requirement is not proved by this candidate; the grace-window behavior is a partial fix.
  • #67 Windows: fix candidate shipped; not yet externally verified by the original reporter.
  • Hermes is community/experimental, not a supported runtime.
  • Codex is a private alpha, not included in this release.

Upgrade

claude plugin marketplace add alivecontext/alive
claude plugin install alive@alivecontext
/alive:system-upgrade --dry-run --plan-output /tmp/upgrade-plan.txt
/alive:system-upgrade

The upgrade skill backs everything up to a versioned tarball before migrating and supports --resume and --rollback. The world schema target remains 3.2.0 — no world migration is required for this patch.
