Release Notes for RCBldEng v1.1
We are pleased to announce the first public release (v1.1) of the RCBldEng tool. This release includes the following key features and files:

  1. RCBldEng.exe – The main executable for building energy simulations.
  2. Example Projects – Sample building definition files and directories to help you explore RCBldEng’s structure and functionalities.
  3. README.md – Comprehensive instructions on system requirements, setup, input file formatting, and simulation execution.
Below is a brief guide on how to install and run the software:

1. Download & Installation

  1. Download the RCBldEng_v1.1.zip file from the Releases section.
  2. Extract the contents into a folder of your choice.

2. Directory Structure

Within your chosen Parent_Directory, ensure the following subdirectories are available:

Parent_Directory/
├── RCBldEng.exe
├── Projects/
│ └── [Building_Name]/
│ └── [Run_Code]/
├── Climate/
│ └── TMYs/ # place .epw weather files here

3. Running RCBldEng

Open Command Prompt and navigate to the folder containing RCBldEng.exe. Use the following syntax to run a simulation:

RCBldEng.exe [building_name] [first_day] -sim [run_code]

For example:

RCBldEng.exe office_Shanghai mon -sim test
  • [building_name] – Name of the building project (must match the *.sim file’s prefix).
  • [first_day] – Simulation start day (e.g., “mon,” “tue,” “wed,” etc.).
  • -sim [run_code] – Run code, matching the subfolder name under [Building_Name].

4. Optional Arguments

You can also add keyword arguments, for example:

RCBldEng.exe office_commercial_shanghai_v1 mon -sim test01 solver=runge-kutta if_pmv=True infl_style=real
  • solver – Numerical solver (e.g., euler, crank-nicholson, runge-kutta).
  • if_pmv – Whether to calculate thermal comfort (PMV).
  • infl_style – Method for infiltration calculation (e.g., constant, real).

5. Output Files

Upon successful completion, the following CSV files will be generated in:

Projects/[Building_Name]/[Run_Code]/
  1. [building_name]_[run_code]_hourly.csv – Hourly results (temperatures, energy demands, etc.).
  2. [building_name]_[run_code]_monthly.csv – Monthly aggregated results.
  3. [building_name]_[run_code]_indoor_temperature.csv – Detailed zone temperature and comfort data.

For more detailed instructions, examples, and troubleshooting, please refer to the included README.md file.
Thank you for using RCBldEng v1.1, and we look forward to your feedback!
