Release list
v2.8.1
Fonts never fall back to block glyphs: a font that is missing, has no letters or can't be read is reported, logged and replaced by the bundled JetBrains Mono, and :font only offers fonts that can draw text. New releases are noticed sooner: ttyp checks GitHub at start once the last check is an hour old (was a day). config.toml and synced configs keep settings this version doesn't know, and comments, when saved; unknown settings are warned about at start; a synced config with newer settings stays on with an older ttyp. The utheme client (macOS) logs problems it carries on from.
v2.8.0
Fonts and error handling. 15 more bundled fonts (22 in all): Inconsolata, Fira Mono, Noto Sans Mono, Red Hat Mono, Overpass Mono, Geist Mono, Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono, DM Mono, Space Mono, Courier Prime, Victor Mono, Martian Mono, Anonymous Pro, PT Mono and Cousine. A font that can't draw letters is now an error instead of boxes, characters a font lacks are reported once and borrowed from a bundled font, and fontconfig collections and patterns resolve to the right face. Errors and warnings are written to ttyp.log in the data directory. Fixes: crashes from out-of-range config values and languages with no words; settings and state files are written atomically and damaged ones are kept as .bad instead of overwritten; a rejected queued daily is dropped with its reason; worker-thread panics no longer leave a request hanging.
v2.7.1
v2.7.0
v2.6.3
ttyp 2.6.3
Faster everywhere
- Starts almost instantly. Font loading now uses every CPU core and runs in the background, and the system font list is only read when you need it. The landing screen appears in about 1.5 ms instead of about 100 ms.
- Key repeat doesn't lag. A burst of keys is handled together and drawn once (300 keys used to mean 300 frames; now it's 2).
- Quieter when idle. A running test only wakes as often as the HUD needs it, and screens that aren't changing stop redrawing. The landing screen's screensaver draws about 5× fewer frames.
- Cheaper resizes. Glyph images are kept and re-sent rather than redrawn.
More HUD readouts
:hudadds raw wpm, accuracy and an error count alongside the timer and live wpm.
Install a prebuilt binary with Cargo
cargo binstall ttypdownloads the release binary instead of compiling. Specific versions work too:cargo binstall ttyp@2.6.3.
Docs
- How to hide the mouse pointer while typing in Ghostty, kitty and Alacritty.
v2.6.2
What's new
- Mouse pointer hides while you type in terminals that support xterm's pointer mode (XTSMPOINTER); it comes back when the mouse moves. Ghostty, kitty and Alacritty use their own setting for this:
mouse-hide-while-typing = true(Ghostty),mouse_hide_wait -1(kitty),hide_when_typing = trueunder[mouse](Alacritty).
v2.6.1
What's new
- Language demo on the install screen. Under the list, a line typed like the typing screen shows the highlighted language's words — a sample from the catalogue before it's installed. On the themes tab it shows your current language's words in the highlighted theme.
v2.6.0
What's new
- HUD with live wpm. The readouts above the words are now a configurable HUD: the timer and a new live words-per-minute readout.
:hudopens a checklist with a preview (space shows/hides, ←/→ reorders);:hud wpmtoggles one directly. Saved configs can each keep their own. - Update notice. The landing screen tells you when a newer ttyp is out, with how to upgrade; a major release gets a bigger, framed notice. Checked at most once a day in the background, never offline;
:set update_check offturns it off. - Tables read better. Columns grow to fit their content (e.g.
words 100on profiles), and the highlighted row wraps to show anything that's still cut off. - Exact aliases win. Typing a command's alias exactly (
me,whois,?) suggests that command first; started aliases (prof) match too.
