Release list
TGTV v1.3 (beta)
Version for beta testing TGTV features.
TGTV v1.2 (stable)
What's New in v1.2 (Stable)
📺 Watch Progress Sync
Your watch progress now syncs across devices. TGTV saves playback bookmarks privately in your Telegram Saved Messages, so you can resume watching the same title on another device. No external servers involved.
☁️ Cloud Backup & Restore
Back up your library layout, pinned chats, watch progress, and preferences to a private #TGTVBackup file in Saved Messages. Restore everything on another TV or after a factory reset in one click.
🔍 Search All of Telegram
Search now covers every Telegram chat accessible to your current session, not just chats pinned to your library.
🚀 Improved Playback Reliability
- Automatically recovers stale file references.
- Retries temporary network failures during streaming.
- Adds a working retry option when playback fails.
- Automatically falls back to alternative decoders when needed.
🔄 In-App Updates
Download and install new releases directly through Settings → Check for updates. Enable Beta updates to receive pre-release versions.
🔒 Private Login by Default
QR login sessions now display only Saved Messages by default. Your other chats, groups, and personal media stay off the shared TV screen.
📂 Add Your Own Chats
Go to Settings → Add chats to browse available Telegram chats and groups. Pin the ones you want to include in your library and unpin them whenever you want. Bot sessions are supported too, with chat selections persisted across restarts.
💬 Automatic Subtitles — No API Key Required
OpenSubtitles integration now works out of the box. The API key is included in the release, so there's no manual setup or API key prompt.
🎞️ Add Subtitles While Watching
Use Settings → Add subtitles (OpenSubtitles) directly from the player to search and load an SRT subtitle without losing your playback position. Useful when embedded subtitles are missing or available in the wrong language.

v1.1...v1.2
TGTV v1.1 (stable)
What's new in v1.1
- No API keys needed on the TV — the Telegram app credentials (api_id / api_hash) are compiled into the release APK. Setup is now just the Telegram BotFather token, or skip the bot entirely and log in with your Telegram account by QR.
- Resume playback — watch progress is saved locally; the details screen offers Continue / Play Again, and titles watched to the end are marked as seen.
- In-player settings panel (press MENU/INFO while playing): subtitle & audio track switching, playback speed (0.25x–2x) and a resolution cap (Auto/4K/1080p/…) without leaving the video. Hold MENU for a quick subtitles on/off.
- Your library survives restarts — chats and videos are indexed in a local SQLite database (
VideoLibrary), so even bot mode reopens your full library instantly after a cold start, and "Remove from TGTV" keeps titles hidden across scans. - Zero-credential QR-first login — with baked credentials the login screen goes straight to the Telegram "Link device" QR.
- Details screen now shows cast & crew (TMDB credits) and a quality badge (1080p, 4K, WEB-DL…).
- Subtitles render anchored to the TV screen (not the letterboxed video) with a Small/Medium/Large size setting; wake lock held during playback so boxes no longer sleep mid-audio.
Files
TGTV-v1.1-v7a.apk(~24 MB) — recommended for all Android TVs, including Mi Box, Shield, Fire TV, ChromecastTGTV-v1.1-universal.apk(~96 MB) — all 4 ABIs, for emulators / exotic arm64 devices
Both signed with the same debug certificate as v1.0 — installs straight over your existing version.
See the README for the sideload guide and setup.
TGTV v1.0
TGTV v1.0
First full release of the Netflix-style Telegram library for Android TV.
UI overhaul
- Netflix red/black theme throughout: black windows, charcoal cards and tiles, red accents and focus states
- Tall 2:3 poster cards on the home grid, backed by the official TMDB poster (backdrop and Telegram thumbnail as fallbacks)
- Bold red TGTV wordmark on the home screen
- Details screen: stronger backdrop scrims so hero text is always readable, IMDb-style graded rating ring (80+ dark green, 70 light green, 60 yellow, 50 orange, below red), charcoal Play / Watchlist / Download buttons
- Flat charcoal login buttons that light up red on focus
Library & metadata
- TMDB metadata built in with a bring-your-own-key option (Settings -> TMDB metadata)
- Resolver improvements for release-style names: byte-boundary
HDRiptokens, unbalanced `(trailing
paren groups, colon stripping, trailing-junk retries for truncated forwarded file names - Web-assisted title resolution (Wikipedia / DuckDuckGo -> canonical title -> TMDB) for transliterated titles
Playback & storage
- Subtitles: embedded toggle, language priority list, OpenSubtitles fallback (BYO free API key)
- Storage-aware playback: preflight warning for oversized videos and pause-before-disk-full watchdog
- 2 MiB sync streaming windows and a 15 s cache monitor for diagnosing stutter
- Two login modes: bot token (live pickup) or phone/QR for the full chat history
APKs: TGTV-v1.0-v7a.apk (any Android TV, ~24 MB) or TGTV-v1.0-universal.apk (emulators, ~96 MB). Sideload guide in the README.
TGTV v0.3
TGTV v0.3
- Renamed to TGTV across the app, launcher artifacts and network user-agents
- Subtitles - new Settings section: toggle embedded subtitles on/off, set a language priority list (
en, hi, ml), and store your free OpenSubtitles.com API key - OpenSubtitles fallback - files with no embedded track are matched by TMDB ID and an SRT is side-loaded without losing playback position (requires the BYO key)
- Storage-aware playback - preflight warning when a video is bigger than the free
/dataspace, and playback pauses before the disk fills instead of dying mid-stream - Bigger streaming window - 1 MiB to 2 MiB sync windows (fewer blocking waits, smoother playback)
- Cache monitor - a background log line every 15 s while streaming records the TDLib cache size (helps diagnose stutter: cache growth vs network)
- TMDB metadata built in (cards show real title, rating, year and official backdrop), Netflix-style details screen with version picker and My List (introduced in v0.2)
- Installs cleaner on Mi Box 4 / any Android 8.0+ Android TV
APKs: TGTV-v0.3-v7a.apk (any Android TV) or TGTV-v0.3-universal.apk (emulators).
Sideload guide in the README.
v0.2 - TMDB metadata and Netflix-style details
The biggest update so far:
Details screen
- Clicking a card now opens a hero-style details page: full TMDB backdrop, poster, ringed rating, runtime, status, overview and genres
- Play / Add to Watchlist / Download buttons; long-press on cards still opens the quick menu
- Version picker: multiple files of the same film (1080p vs 720p, different audio cuts) are grouped as choices with quality/source/size labels - tap any copy to play it
TMDB metadata (built in)
- Automatic title/rating/year/backdrop resolution from release-style file names
- Spelling-tolerant matching ("Chaadum" finds "Chadum"-style variants), language/junk-token filtering, camera names (IMG_/MVI_/VID_) skipped
- Web-assisted fallback: Wikipedia + DuckDuckGo (filename + imdb) resolve the canonical title, then TMDB validates it
- Home cards swap to the official TMDB backdrop; details screens use full backdrops + posters
- Runs out of the box; a custom key or off-switch lives in Settings -> TMDB metadata
Fixes & library behaviour
- User (QR-paired) sessions now load their full chat list (LoadChats) - the library no longer shows up empty after pairing
- Session type detected via GetMe instead of a stale preference
- Newest message first in every row
- Transient network resets no longer permanently miss a title
- "My List" row with locally bookmarked videos
Pick v7a for real TV boxes (~24 MB); universal APK for emulators.
v0.1.1
Same feature set as v0.1, plus:
- New app icon & TV banner (Telegram play / film-strip logo)
- Two APK variants: \7a\ (armeabi-v7a only, ~24 MB) for real TV boxes and \universal\ (all 4 ABIs, ~96 MB) for emulators and exotic devices
- Detailed sideload install guide (USB / Send-files-to-TV / ADB) in the README
Pick v7a unless you're on an emulator — every arm64 TV box runs v7a natively.

- Streaming via TDLib range downloads read directly from the partial local file (in-process, no external bots or players)
