A practice player for your own Rocksmith 2014 songs. 0.4.0 adds a review
of each run with the parts to practise, a continuous loop that scores every
pass, a rebuilt 3D highway, chord names from what you play, and a lot of
smoothing.

Downloads

  • quickRS-0.4.0-windows-x64.zip: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Unzip and run
    quickrs.exe.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums. The updater checks downloads against it.

This release is for Windows only. On a Mac, keep using 0.3.0 for now. A Mac
build of 0.4.0 will follow. Until then, the update notice on a Mac can be
skipped.

Updating

  • From 0.3.0: quickRS offers the update itself (at most once a day, or
Settings > Updates > Check for updates). Press Update now and it
    restarts into 0.4.0.
  • From 0.1.0: download the zip by hand once. See
    docs/UPDATING.md.

Your settings, keys, scores, favourites and playlists carry over.

Review a run (experimental)

  • After a song, press Review on the results card (or E anywhere in the
song). The review lists the parts of the song you lost the most notes in,
worst first, with a short write-up at the top. Each part has a small tab of
it and a map of every bar you played.
  • Parts are whole riffs and phrases found by listening for what repeats, not
by the chart's section names. A riff that plays 14 times is listed once
("Main riff, 4 bars, plays 14 times"), at the time you played it worst.
  • Click a part, or any bar on the map, to loop it, with every practice tool
still there. A strip at the foot of the tab steps to the previous or next
part, back to the list, or stops.
  • The last 4 runs of each song and part are kept. A list in the review's
header picks one. E on a song you've only just opened shows the newest.

Continuous mode

  • O on any loop, or the first key on the review strip. The loop runs
straight back into its start with no count-in, and every pass is scored.
  • A panel shows the last pass, the best three, clean passes in a row, and a
    bar for each pass.
  • A score panel counts up as you play: hits 100, late or early 50, times a
multiplier from 1x to 4x that grows with your streak. A clean pass adds a
bonus. A perfect pass adds a bigger one, with confetti.
  • Auto level-up is paused while it's on, so passes stay comparable.

The highway, rebuilt

  • The 3D highway (V) is drawn through one real camera, as Rocksmith's is.
Notes travel along their own string, and the camera only pans and dollies.
  • Speed sets how far apart the notes are. Turning it up no longer makes
    notes show up later.
  • Chords look like Rocksmith's: a box, a staircase for a repeated chord,
finger rings and a barre. The sharp sign is drawn, so a chord name no
longer shows a box on a Mac.
  • Strings light up in three steps: idle, coming up and being played.

The note widget

  • A drawer under the widget's arrow. CHORD names the chord you're playing
from the sound alone, with no chart, so it also works when you play along
to anything. It shows a likely shape on a neck that zooms to 12 frets or
all 24, ALL SHAPES shows every place on the neck it can be played, and
KEY shows its number in the key (I, IV, V...), guessed from your playing
    or picked by hand.
  • HEAT lights each note on the neck as you play it, fading over 2.5
seconds, so a lick leaves a trail.
  • The scale box can mark the whole scale (ALL), only the roots (ROOT), or
nothing but the note you play (OFF).
  • A FAST / NORMAL pill switches low-latency output in one click.
  • A resize grip. The widget uses far less CPU while nothing is playing.

Library and look

  • Automatic playlists: 65% and up, 80% and up, 90% and up, filled with
the songs you've reached that accuracy on at full speed.
  • A double-click on a song opens it paused (the first Play counts in).
  • A favourite star on the song page.
  • Smoother scrolling in the song lists, with draggable scroll bars.
  • The AMP ROOM button is a little amp head with a live VU meter.
  • Resizing the window is about 4 times quicker.

Fixes

  • Previous / next while a song plays no longer counts in 3-2-1 again.
  • The first click on a song after starting quickRS opens its part picker.
  • A song clicked on Home opens its picker over Home. The picker no longer
goes missing on the first try.
  • The end-of-song card also closes on a click outside it.
  • A slow sound device no longer makes the window stutter while it opens.
  • The restart arrow is a whole arrow.

Known issues

  • The review and continuous mode are new and have had little testing with
a guitar. Tell me how the parts and scores feel.
  • The highway is a first pass at Rocksmith's look. Strings are thinner and
glow less, there's no background scenery yet, and feedpaks use one default
    note spacing.
  • Chord names are best on a clean input. Distorted tones and open strings
ringing into a change confuse it.
