RF4S Modkit 0.2.0 - Script debugger
Cutscene Editor
- Script debugger (new): attach to the running game, breakpoints (F9), Step / Step into /
Continue / Pause, registers, stack, the stopped statement with live argument values, and a
Variables tab with every FLG_/REG_ the scene uses. Game time stands still while a script is
stopped; Detach or closing the toolkit puts the game back as it was. - Graph tab: control-flow graph with subroutine groups, wheel zoom, free panning, draggable
blocks, follows the Script tab; statements shown in full. - Add instruction window: DIALOG writes a new line or picks an existing one; Insert closes it.
- Addresses in their own column (the Addresses checkbox) in the Source tab and Bank listing.
- Choice menus show the reg0 each option writes; TriggerWorldAction is now OpenMenu.
- Scenes list their CALLed subroutines; unreached code is judged by the statements only it
reaches (far fewer false entries) and also found after JMPs and deleted CALLs. - Banks and Inspector panes can be hidden; SpawnMapEntity names its object type.
rf4mod script log: watch the running game and flag script code the editor doesn't show.
Map editor
- Script areas layer (PlayerRegionTrigger boxes with their em.bin condition).
- Script spawns show SpawnMapEntity objects, one marker per type and spot.
- Spawn points and gates select in the Gates tab; sprite quad overrides (FIELD_69 railing).
Tables and viewers
- Item-id fields show names and edit with a searchable picker; flag tick boxes; editable .bin
viewers; skill XP curve painting; fixed-point values as percentages; schedule editor
redesign; gift category editor; rf3PriceTable as percentages; fishing rate columns. - E-mote viewer: part outlines, click to identify, parts list, PSB tree.
- Faster image display; tables scroll sideways.
Housekeeping
- The modkit is self-contained (no references outside its folder); all reference data is in
refdata/. The Ghidra scripts and the save editor are no longer part of the modkit.
v0.1.0 — first release
RF4S Modkit v0.1.0 — first release
A self-contained modding toolkit for Rune Factory 4 Special (PC / Steam). It reads and
writes the game's own files: maps, cutscenes, dialogue, textures, models and the game's data
tables. It comes with a GUI and a command-line tool.
No game data is included. You need your own copy of RF4S. The toolkit reads the game's
files from your install. Modding a copy of the game is recommended; the toolkit can make one
for you on first start.
Getting started
- Unzip
rf4s-modkit.zipanywhere, for example into your game copy. - Double-click
start.bat. The first time it finds (or offers to install) 64-bit
Python 3.10+, sets up a private environment and starts the GUI. - Pick your game folder when asked. That's it.
The Help button (top right) lists every shortcut. The README covers every feature in detail.
What you can do
Asset explorer
- Browse every file in the game, grouped by category and by in-game area, with search and tabs.
- View and replace textures (any size, from PNG), and edit UI layouts and text in
every language, with a notation for colours, button icons and raised or lowered text. - Edit the game's data tables (items, crops, recipes, monsters, skills, magic…) with named
fields. Multipliers show as1.5×instead of raw fixed-point numbers. - Dark mode, adjustable text size, and optional backups with one-click restore.
Map editor
- Paint collision, place and edit objects, warps, search spots and monster gates, resize maps and
repaint the ground. - Objects are drawn with the game's own sprites and models. Validate checks a map against the
game's real loading rules before you play. - Monster gates: rosters, spawn points, waves and levels, including the gliding and
teleporting gates of Rune Prana, with their routes drawn on the map.
Cutscene Editor
- Read and edit every event scene in
rf3.mc: dialogue in every language, speakers, faces,
camera, actors, flags and branches. Add scenes and instructions with a right-click. - Reload in game (Ctrl+R) puts your changes into the running game without a restart.
- The Triggers tab shows what starts each scene: entering or leaving a map, talking to
someone, defeating a monster, festivals and more. Every trigger type was checked against the
game. - An Event Manager for the game's rule file (
em.bin), a Reference of every flag,
variable and text code, and an optional whole-bank listing (Options → Advanced).
Models and more
- Export models and animations to Blender and import them back, edit monster AI scripts,
and work with the game's archives from the command line (rf4mod.py).
Good to know
- Mods are written into the game's
Bundle\folder. Keep a clean copy of your game, or turn on
backups (Options → Advanced). - The toolkit does not patch
RF4S.exe. Everything is done through the game's data files. - Requires Windows and 64-bit Python 3.10+ (
start.bathandles this).
