Chute turns a Finder selection into agent-ready context, and shows you which of your agent sessions is waiting for you. Offline, no telemetry.
Install
Homebrew — the CLI, and nothing to click through:
brew install avaluev/tap/chute
Your own compiler builds it, so macOS never attaches a quarantine flag and Gatekeeper never runs. Note this installs the terminal tool only — not the menu bar, and not the Finder menu.
The disk image below — read this before you download it.
Chute is not signed by Apple. There is no Apple Developer Program membership behind this project. On first launch macOS will say "Apple could not verify 'Chute' is free of malware." and offer you two buttons — Done and Move to Trash. Neither opens the app.
To open it anyway:
- Click Done.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to Security.
- Click Open Anyway next to Chute, and authenticate.
- Launch Chute again and confirm.
Verify the download first if you like:
shasum -a 256 -c Chute-0.2.1.dmg.sha256
What is in this build
- Finder right-click → paths, bundles, token counts, folder trees, a context basket, new files from the clipboard
- A menu-bar list of every terminal session with its project, agent, model, state, CPU and memory
chuteCLI — 28 commands, MIT, free forever- Zero network calls except an explicit
chute gist, which shells out to your owngh
Known limits
- Session state — blocked, ready, working — comes from hooks, and the hooks exist for Claude Code. Other agents are found in the process list and shown, but their row reads "no hook — Chute cannot see this" rather than a state.
- Because the app is unsigned, the Finder extension may not load on a Mac other than the one that built it. If the right-click menu does not appear after installing the .dmg, use the source install, which builds on your machine.
- macOS 13+ only. CI tests macOS 15 and 26; 13 is claimed, not proven.
