What is the intended Karpenter support path for EKS-optimized AL2027 AMIs? #9825

I'd keep Why AL2023 holds up. What you give up without an alias. AL2027 differences that do reach Karpenter:
Custom. Alias and GA. Here's how AL2023 went. This is precedent only, not a commitment:
AL2023 needed its own family because the bootstrap format changed. AL2027 doesn't change it, so whether it gets a new family or just an alias on the existing nodeadm path is the maintainers' call. The docs already describe a similar arrangement for Ubuntu on What I'd run in the meantime (valid against the v1.15.1 CRDs): apiVersion: karpenter.k8s.aws/v1
kind: EC2NodeClass

spec:
amiFamily: AL2023 # nodeadm user data + /dev/xvda root default

role: KarpenterNodeRole-al2027 # mapped to system:node:{{SessionName}}

The [EKS AL2027 preview discussion](awslabs/amazon-eks-ami#2849) notes that AL2027 uses
nodeadmand that the KarpenterAL2023AMI family can currently generate compatible user data.I validated this on an existing EKS 1.34 cluster managed by Karpenter using custom AL2027 AMIs and an explicit AMI ID with
amiFamily: AL2023.Tested configurations:
t4g.largeg6.xlargeandgr6.4xlargeAll nodes joined successfully, and networking, storage, system DaemonSets, GPU device plugin registration, CUDA workloads, inference, and reboot recovery worked as expected.
As AL2027 progresses toward general availability, what is the intended Karpenter integration path?
AL2027AMI family and alias for native support?AL2023given the sharednodeadmbootstrap mechanism?CustomAMI family with explicit AMI selectors and user data?This is not a bug report; the explicit-AMI approach worked in my testing. I'm looking for guidance on the approach most likely to remain supported as AL2027 evolves.
I'd be happy to help validate or contribute to the integration once the intended direction is clear.
