This release makes the AppImage start on processors without AVX2 again and fixes effects turning black after long sessions on 8 GB cards. It is based on bbport 0.51.

Coming next: 0.70, based on upstream bbport 0.7 with its new features, will be the next release, in a few days. I am testing everything first so that it keeps working on as many setups as possible.

Requirements: your own decrypted dump of Bloodborne with update 1.09, any retail release (US,
Europe, UK, Japan, Asia, and the editions with The Old Hunters). No game files are included.
Linux x86-64 and a Vulkan 1.3 GPU.

New

None.

Improved

  • The AppImage is built on plain Arch Linux (packaging/appimage-in-arch.sh), so the libraries it carries run on any x86-64 processor.
  • A smaller download: the AppImage is about 19% smaller than 0.51-linux.20 (195 MB instead of 241 MB).

Fixed

  • The AppImage did not start on processors without AVX2 (AMD FX and Phenom, Intel before Haswell): it closed at once without a message (#39). The libraries it carried had been built for newer processors.
  • Effects, weapons and armour turning black after a long session on cards with 8 GB or less, with NVIDIA and Intel (#30). The copies of the game's memory kept in video memory now make room when the texture cache reaches its critical mark, instead of the textures the game is drawing. Thanks to Nahnahchi for testing it.

Upgrading

  • From 0.51-linux.20: the launcher's About page installs this one. If 0.51-linux.20 did not start on your PC, download this AppImage from this page.
  • Your saves and settings in ~/.local/share/bbport stay as they are.

Known issues

  • Stretched shapes can still appear in some places (#25). Under investigation.
  • Amygdala's lasers could look black (#19).
  • A crash at guest offset 0x263b8e7 can still happen on the Steam Deck (#27). If it happens often, setting Advanced → Performance → Two-stage GPU pipeline to Off should avoid it, at some cost in FPS.
  • Local co-op runs a whole game per player: on a mid-range GPU at 1440p, two players get about 30 to 40 FPS each. It has been tested with two players.
  • The ghosts' cloth in Cainhurst can glitch, and some AMD integrated GPUs show no snow there.
  • On NVIDIA the new memory model is not the default yet: results vary by scene.
  • Only the 1.09 executable is supported; other versions start and then crash.
