Automatic Distro Logos and GitHub Update Manager
zfetch v0.2.0 introduces automatic Linux distribution logo detection and a GitHub-based update manager, making the lightweight Rust-powered system information tool easier to use and maintain.
This release also improves the built-in ASCII logo database while preserving custom logo support, JSONC configuration, and the existing native system detection features.
What's New
Automatic Linux Distribution Logos
- Automatically detects the Linux distribution using
/etc/os-release. - Displays a recognizable ASCII logo for supported distributions.
- Includes a compact, embedded ASCII logo database with support for Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, Fedora, Arch Linux, and other distributions.
- Uses distribution family information as a fallback when an exact match is unavailable.
- Preserves custom ASCII logos configured through JSONC or
--logo. - Supports disabling the logo with
--no-logo.
GitHub Update Manager
- Introduces
zfetch --check-updateto check the latest stable GitHub Release. - Introduces
zfetch --updatefor an interactive update workflow. - Compares version numbers to determine whether an update is available.
- Recognizes development builds newer than the latest public release.
- Supports checksum verification for compatible Debian package updates.
- Keeps network operations separate from normal system information display.
Improvements
- Replaces placeholder distribution logos with recognizable ASCII artwork.
- Maintains support for custom ASCII logos and logo alignment.
- Improves update status messages and version comparison behavior.
- Preserves existing JSONC configuration and native hardware detection.
