Release Notes: ETHOS Mapping Widget v2.2.0

Install with Ethos Suite

Version 2.2 can be installed and updated through Ethos Suite → Lua Library → Install from local .zip. Each release now ships two packages with the same content:

File Use
ETHOSMappingWidget-2.2.0-suite.zip Ethos Suite install (recommended)
ETHOSMappingWidget-2.2.0-sdcard.zip Manual install: extract to the SD card root
LAYOUTS.zip Optional custom fullscreen screen layouts without the system border (FULL 1:1, 2:1, 1+2), see Custom Layouts

The UI icons moved into the widget's script folder (scripts/ethosmaps/bitmaps/), because the Suite installs only there. The old folder bitmaps/ethosmaps/bitmaps/ is no longer used and can be deleted. Do not delete bitmaps/ethosmaps/maps/ — your map tiles stay where they are.

What's New

  • Home set via switch (#46): new setting Home set trigger. Choose Switch and pick your arming switch — home is set the moment the switch becomes active with a valid GPS position. Works without any flight controller (e.g. GPS logger setups). With MSP arming (default) the INAV arming detection works as before.
  • GPS plausibility filter: a GPS that was off for a long time often reports positions scattered across the world before its fix. The widget now ignores positions no aircraft could reach and accepts a new position once it has been consistent for about 3 seconds. No more map jumping around the globe, no bogus trail, no home on another continent. Works with every flight controller, no satellite count needed.
  • MapTiler map provider (PR #49, thanks MartinovEm): Satellite, Hybrid, Street plus the MapTiler styles Outdoor, Topo, Winter and OSM Style. Topo and Winter read very well in daylight. Tiles via the High Resolution Map Generator.
  • ADS-B Alert — experimental (INAV 10): if your INAV 10 flight controller has an ADS-B receiver, the widget shows the aircraft INAV warns about — heading arrow with callsign, distance and altitude, orange for warning, red for alert, edge arrow when off-screen, sound and vibration when the threat level rises. Warning/alert distances come from your INAV OSD settings. Off by default. This only shows the alerted aircraft, not general traffic. On INAV older than 10 the feature switches itself off. Not yet verified with a real ADS-B setup — feedback welcome.

Fixes

  • "ZOOM LIMIT" stuck on screen / bar values not updating: ETHOS Lua uses 32-bit integers, and the widget's internal timer overflowed into negative values (since about late June 2026). This left "ZOOM LIMIT" on screen from widget start and stopped the 1-second refresh of the top and bottom bar values. Fixed.
  • Documentation reviewed and corrected against the current code (button positions, GMapCatcher provider, waypoint rendering, settings).

Settings & Compatibility

  • All existing settings are preserved when upgrading from 2.1. The new settings start with their defaults (Home set trigger = MSP arming, ADS-B Alert = off).
  • Compatible with ETHOS 1.6.x or later (26.1 recommended) and INAV 7.x – 10.x. ADS-B Alert requires INAV 10.

Known Limitations

  • ADS-B Alert over SmartPort updates noticeably slower than over CRSF/ELRS.
  • The ETHOS 1.6.x instruction budget can occasionally be reached during complex rendering; the affected frame is dropped.
