ED Exo Compare 1.2.3 — portable
A journal-linked exobiology companion for Elite Dangerous. It reads your local journal, merges scans and organic signals, and predicts the candidate species on a body from FSS/DSS telemetry alone — with payout ranges, first-footfall tracking, a system map, a customisable HUD and a species encyclopedia.
This release is the single-file portable build. For the unpacked program folder plus the two console builds, see v1.2.3-zip — same version, same code.
Download EDExoCompare.exe and run it. Nothing is installed.
Anemone split into its eight colours, Radicoida listed, Sinuous Tubers and Brain Trees on measured rules, and three new photographs.
New
Anemone is eight species now, one per colour. The game logs each colour as its own codex entry, and each grows in its own place, so one "Anemone" row described a home none of them has. The colour follows the system's main star and how big it is (its luminosity class), and the body picks between the plain and the glowing kind:
| Main star | Rocky body | Metal-rich / high metal content |
|---|---|---|
| O | Puniceum (on icy bodies) | Prasinum Bioluminescent |
| B dwarf (IV–V) | Luteolum | Blatteum Bioluminescent |
| B giant (I–III) | Roseum | Roseum Bioluminescent |
| B subdwarf (VI) or A giant | Croceum | Rubeum Bioluminescent |
Measured on the 4,090 bodies in Spansh's galaxy data where the codex logs exactly one Anemone in the system: each colour's own rule holds on 91–99 % of them. The one overlap the data shows — a B IV star can carry Blatteum or Rubeum — is offered as both.
Radicoida (Ingensradices Unicus) is listed, on HIP 87621, the only system it is known from: 119,037 CR, 1 m between samples.
Three new photographs: Concha aureolas Red and Recepta umbrux Maroon from CMDR FALrenica, and Sinuous Tubers roseum from CMDR PhoEniXDFA. Brain Tree Gypseeum now shows its own photograph.
Better
Sinuous Tubers are predicted from the galaxy data: 200–500 K on rocky and high-metal bodies, airless or a thin carbon or sulphur dioxide atmosphere, any volcanism, and each species within its own distance of the galactic core. Brain Trees have their own temperature range per species. Clypeus lacrimam has no distance limit any more.
Brain Trees and Sinuous Tubers are recognised by the names the game uses ("Aureum Brain Tree"), so your samples and codex entries of them count.
Plants whose colour is their name — Anemone, Brain Trees, Sinuous Tubers — and the one-colour plants (Bark Mounds, Amphora, Crystalline Shards, Radicoida) no longer show "colour unknown".
A star with no colour rule hands the colour to the next star lighting the body; when none has one the colour stays "(unknown)" rather than being guessed.
The system map's side panel folds away behind an arrow.
Credits are shortened to "k" only from 100,000.
Fixed
- Some system maps came up empty when a planet or star in a body's orbit chain had never been scanned.
- Importing the Spansh dump in the app failed on a
.gzfile ("incorrect header check").
Codex data refreshed from EDAstro (28 September). No journal re-read this time.
Where your data lives
%LOCALAPPDATA%\ED Exo Compare\ — settings, your LAN key, your EDSM credentials if you add them, the species you have scanned on foot, your Fix corrections, the journal folder you chose, your HUD layout, where your windows were, the systems you looked up on Spansh (kept 30 days), the shared exomastery folder, and the prediction caches. Nothing of yours is kept in the program folder, so replacing it on an update loses nothing.
Your journals are read, never copied out. Uploads to EDSM, Canonn and EDDN happen only if you turn them on yourself. Looking a system up sends only its name or number to Spansh.
Windows will say the publisher is unrecognised. The executable is not code-signed, so SmartScreen asks first: "More info" → "Run anyway".

Licence correction (2026-10-01). This release contains data derived from EDAstro (CMDR Orvidius), whose content is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0. Those data files were shipped under the MIT notice by mistake: they are CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 — credit the sources, no commercial use, share alike — not MIT.
