EDEXO 1.3.0 — portable
A journal-linked exobiology and colonisation companion for Elite Dangerous. Compare reads your local journal, merges scans and organic signals, and predicts the candidate species on a body from FSS/DSS telemetry alone — with payout ranges, first-footfall tracking, a system map, a customisable HUD and a species encyclopedia. Colonize follows your construction sites and plans the hauling, trip by trip.
This release is the single-file portable build. For the unpacked program folder plus the two console builds, see v1.3.0-zip — same version, same code.
Download EDExoCompare.exe and run it. Nothing is installed.
EDEXO-Compare is now EDEXO, and it builds colonies too: Colonize, a second app beside Compare, follows your construction sites from the journal and plans the hauling, in the look and feel Compare has, with a section in the HUD, a streamer view and a read-only view for your phone. The HUD also gets a Ship section with your damage part by part, Carriers gets a Stations tab and a Tritium finder, and the code moves to a non-commercial licence. Updating from 1.2.x works as before, from inside the app.
New
- Colonize, an app of its own. The launcher has two buttons now: Open Compare (the exobiology app, as before) and Open Colonize, each with its own menu (in your browser, app window, phone view, streamer view), remembered apart. Both can be open at once. Colonize is built on Compare's shell: the same app bar, tray, tab strip, menus, Options, colours and panels, and Compare's screens (galaxy map, boxels, discoveries, encyclopedia and the rest) open in Colonize's own tabs, and tabs drag between the two apps' windows. Only the main screen is different.
- Plan. Your construction sites with what each still needs, and a haul plan: which station to buy what at, packed into trips the size of your hold in as few trips as the sellers allow, each trip filled from the biggest batches first so it carries as few different commodities as it can. A small market is bought out once, not on every trip, and a seller that runs dry is replaced. Nearest sellers first, fewest stops or cheapest. The next trip is laid out stop by stop (where to buy, how much, where to deliver, with Copy on every system name and how far the site gets once it is delivered); the later trips sit below it as cards. Nothing to tick: a purchase is done when the cargo is aboard and a trip when the site has recorded its deliveries, and a delivery made out of order simply re-makes the plan from what every site still needs.
- Site cards. Each site is a card: the one you are docked at first, how much is left, in your hold and still to buy, the hold's share drawn on the bar, its biggest needs, and the full list folded. A material delivered in full goes to the bottom in green; green means done everywhere in Colonize. Docked at a site, it shows what in your hold that site still needs, unload first; docked at a seller, what to buy there, filling as it comes aboard.
- Rules per site. A site can have its own pad size, distance from the star, planetary ports, other carriers and how many systems a material may come from. The one plan follows the strictest site and says which site tightened it.
- Sites from your whole history. On its first start Colonize reads every journal you have for construction sites (about 1.6 seconds for 356 MB), so a site you last visited weeks ago is there at once. Each site says whether it is in your colony (a system you claimed) or one you are helping build, and a fold lists your colonies with what was built in each.
- Credits by week. What each system paid you for deliveries and what the goods cost you, by game week (Thursday to Thursday), in a fold under Your sites, with this week's line on the HUD.
- Search, from your journal first. A commodity (a comma means "sells all of them"), a system, or a construction site by name. The markets you docked at and bought from come first, marked "bought here 3×" or "docked 2026-10-19", then saved Spansh results and Inara imports; Ask Spansh near your site looks further when the journal has nothing. Each station is a card, and its market opens beside the list with what your sites need marked. A construction site's needs come from Raven Colonial when someone registered the project there.
- Sellers from Spansh, whole markets at a time. The stations in your journal are read market by market from Spansh (40 in one request), then the biggest needs are searched first and every material your sites need is kept from each answer. Seller data older than 60 days is not planned with (your journal's markets and stations you bought from never expire), and sellers kept for a site finished over 30 days ago are dropped.
- Your fleet carrier, found from the whole journal history (its stats, jumps and the cargo you moved on and off it). Switch it on and the plan counts its cargo as already bought.
- Sources: your carriers, a trade party (friends' carriers by callsign, from Spansh), the seller data and how far it looks, Inara, the stations you never want to use, and the markets you docked at.
- Wing: who in your wing hauls what, with their cargo from EDSM when they share it.
- Your hold size is read from the game (it showed "?" in the old Colonize app unless you typed it).
- Settings and progress are kept by the app, not the window: the app window, a browser tab, the phone and the next start all show the same plan.
- Inara in the EDEXO Browser. Colonize's Inara links open Inara's commodity search in the app's Browser tab, in whichever app's window holds the browser. Run the search there and an EDEXO pop-up on the page offers EDEXO — Read or Cancel: Read saves the sellers that page shows, as an Inara import. Only the page you opened is read, and only when you press Read; nothing is fetched behind your back. In a normal browser the links open Inara as before, and the Inara helper for Chrome still works (see Updating).
- Colonize in the HUD. A new HUD section: the haul plan's next stop (station, system and how far it is from your ship) with a bar per commodity that fills as the cargo comes aboard; the site you are working on with a bar per material that fills as it is delivered; what to unload when docked at a site; the other sites being built; this week's credits; and your hold. A line you have bought or a material delivered in full leaves the HUD. Which site it follows: the one you are docked at, else the one you pinned with Follow on the HUD, else the next trip's. Three switches in the launcher's HUD settings under Colonize: the site's materials, the other sites, and Show finished lines (kept, last and in green). Highlighted when there is something to do where you are; hidden under "only when relevant" while nothing is being built. It starts Colonize by itself, so the window need not be open.
- Ship in the HUD. Another new section: your own ship seen from above (all 49 ships have their own outline) with the hull, and the core modules, weapons, utilities and internals where they sit on it, each coloured by its health, and the damaged parts listed worst first. The hull is live; modules are as of your last outfitting, AFMU run or repair. Shown under "only when relevant" only while something is under 95 %, highlighted while anything is under 50 %. Its own overlay page is in the launcher like the other sections.
- Colonize on your phone, and on stream. A read-only view for a phone or tablet on your network: the sites, what to unload, the PC's haul plan as it progresses, and your hold. The link is in the launcher's network settings and in Options → Phone and second screen. The same view for OBS is in Colonize's launcher menu: nothing to click, an optional transparent background, two columns on a wide source.
- Carriers & Stations, and Find Tritium. The Carriers window is now Carriers & Stations with three tabs: Carriers, Stations (the nearest station with a service) and Find Tritium (the nearest rings with Tritium hotspots, and the stations and carriers that sold it in the last 30 days, from Spansh when you press Search). Carriers can refresh themselves every 12 hours and stations every 24 (or 6, 48 hours, or off), once you have fetched them once. The galaxy map's drawer has the same three tabs and measures from the system you picked there, else from your ship.
- Pads and supercruise distances. Seller stations show their largest landing pad and their distance from the arrival star ("L pad · 1,234 ls from the star"), from the stations data the galaxy map already downloads; the Pad filter reads the real pad instead of guessing from the station type.
- Motion setting. Options → Look → Motion: Full, Reduced (the default when Windows asks for less motion) or Off. Pop-ups, menus and drawers now fade out as well as in, and rows that move (site cards, deliveries, trips after a re-plan) slide to their new place.
- Help in every pop-up. Each pop-up has a ? beside its close button with a short explanation of what it does; the Data value's help moved there.
- Old copies. Options → Old copies lists the one-off backup copies (
.bak,.before-<date>) that pile up in the data folder over the years, with their size, and removes them on a second click.
Changed
- The name is EDEXO in the windows, the launcher, the tray, the app bar ("EDEXO Compare", "EDEXO Colonize"), the HUD's credit line ("HUD Overlay by EDEXO") and the app's pages. The program file (EDExoCompare.exe), the download names and the data folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\ED Exo Compare) keep their names, so updates, shortcuts and your data carry straight on.
- The HUD shows only while Elite, the launcher or an app window is in front. It stayed up over other programs (a browser tab, another game).
- Faster to open, lighter to keep open. The Encyclopedia's data loads when you open it, not in every window (each window about 770 KB lighter); the galaxy map's drawers load on first open; a galaxy tab left behind others for ten minutes gives its map's memory back; the moving backdrop pauses when the window is hidden or long behind another; HUD windows come back once the launcher has loaded. The prediction log is written compactly (42 % smaller on a real profile). The galaxy map, its NavRoute and Neutron drawers, the sector map and the streamer view no longer ask the app every one to thirty seconds whether anything changed: the app tells them when it does. Colonize asks where its sellers and sites are in one request instead of two.
- The portable exe shows a splash while it unpacks, and keeps the unpacked copy for the next start while it is the same build, so the second start is quick.
- Cut corners keep their outline. The angled corners of buttons, tabs, chips, cards, menus and pop-ups lost their border on the diagonal; it is drawn on the cut now, and keyboard focus shows inside the shape.
- The galaxy map remembers its colour mode, brightness, base layers and the "waiting at least" filter between opens. The colony-site finder's number fields take a typed number.
- The codex-consistency envelope shows only while it has alerts; its source switches and "Show dismissed again" are in Options → Exobiology.
- The footer sits at the bottom of the window when a page is shorter than the window, in both apps.
- Options show what applies to the app they are opened in: Colonize leaves out Compare's map marks, snapshot stamp, exobiology and developer tools.
- System positions from your own data first, and kept. Colonize places systems from your journals and the downloaded stations data before asking EDSM or Spansh: on a sample of 867 seller and reference systems, 864 were placed without a network request. A system Spansh named once (its position and the exact spelling Spansh needs) is kept for the next start, and goes into your backups.
- Colony-site finder data refreshed (galaxy index of 2026-10-22, now with Spansh's populated-systems dump): systems colonised in September and October no longer show as free.
- Colonize keeps its files safe: a saved file that cannot be read is copied aside (
.bak-corrupt) before Colonize starts over, instead of being overwritten. - Seven new species photographs (the developer's own): Bacterium alcyoneum Red, Frutexa fera Green, Osseus spiralis Emerald, Recepta umbrux Orange, Stratum tectonicas Grey, Tussock pennatis Emerald and Tussock stigmasis Lime. The ED-DSN placeholders for Frutexa fera, Tussock pennatis and Tussock stigmasis are retired.
- "Buy me a coffee" links to the developer's Ko-fi at the end of the app's and the launcher's footers; never in the streamer views. Entirely optional: nothing in the app is behind it.
Fixed
- Linux: the app no longer dies at start on a graphics driver it cannot use (seen on a hybrid NVIDIA laptop under KDE Wayland, exit 139). If the graphics process crashes in the first 30 seconds, EDEXO switches to a safe graphics mode and starts again by itself, once; the launcher's Hardware acceleration switch says why it turned off and lets you try the graphics card again.
EDEXO_SAFE_GRAPHICS=1or--disable-gpustarts in safe mode from the outset. See the README's Linux section.
Licence
From 1.3.0 the code is under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0 with two additional permissions. You may use, change, fork and build it for anything non-commercial, keeping the Required Notice line; selling it or any part of it, or using it to make money, is not allowed. Streamers and video makers may show the app and its HUD in monetised content with no licence step and no credit needed, and a non-commercial fork may take donations as long as nothing is put behind a payment. Releases up to and including 1.2.20 were released under the MIT licence, and copies of them stay under it. The data stays CC BY-NC-SA 3.0. See LICENSE in the repository.
Updating
From 1.2.x: Check for updates in the launcher installs 1.3.0 as usual (portable and program folder alike); your settings, journals cache, galaxy data and backups stay where they are. The first start re-reads your journals once (the cache format changed for the Ship section and the credits ledger). The old EDEXO-Colonize app is not needed any more; nothing is imported from it except the system positions it had looked up, and Colonize rebuilds your sites, markets and carriers from the journal. The Inara helper for Chrome is in the repository's chrome-extension folder (load it unpacked); its scrapes land in Downloads\EdexoColonize\inara, which Colonize watches.
Where your data lives
%LOCALAPPDATA%\ED Exo Compare\ — settings, your LAN key, your EDSM credentials if you add them, the species you have scanned on foot, your Fix corrections, the journal folder you chose, your HUD layout, where your windows were, the systems you looked up on Spansh (kept 30 days), the shared exomastery folder, and the prediction caches. Nothing of yours is kept in the program folder, so replacing it on an update loses nothing. On Linux the same lives in ~/.config/edexo-compare. Backups go only where you point the Backups tile.
Your journals are read, never copied out. Uploads to EDSM, Canonn and EDDN happen only if you turn them on yourself. Looking a system up sends only its name or number to Spansh.
Windows will say the publisher is unrecognised. The executable is not code-signed, so SmartScreen asks first: "More info" → "Run anyway".
Licence
Code: PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 with two additional permissions (showing the app in streams and videos is free; releases up to and including 1.2.20 stay MIT).
