Chirp v0.5.0 makes a session practical without making it less safe: the clipboard follows the session once the owner allows it, files go both ways, and the owner is told of each.

Validated end to end with v0.5.0-rc.4 (same commit) on Windows 11 and Kali Linux (X11).

New

  • Automatic clipboard, when the owner allows it at the start. Text copied on either side is there to paste on the other. The owner gets an alert for every copy and paste the person helping makes. Passwords that password managers mark as concealed are not shared.
  • Files both ways. Send a file from the session bar or the controller's window. Files arrive in Downloads/Chirp, and Open folder shows them.
  • Chirp keeps to the tray during a session. The icon shows only while a session is on, with Open Chirp, alerts on/off and End session. The main window goes to the tray and comes back when the session ends.
  • Alerts go away on their own and can be turned off from the tray. On Windows they are balloons from the tray icon.
  • The session bar stays above other windows, off the taskbar, and grows to show what happened, with Open folder.
  • Codes get their dashes as you type them.

Fixed along the rc series

  • Alerts did not show on Windows: the systray fork's NOTIFYICONDATA layout (barahn/systray 2f6e394).
  • The session bar's buttons stopped answering on Windows after it left the taskbar, and it could be lost behind other windows (#146).
  • The file picker covered the session bar and left its buttons stuck (#140).

Dependencies

  • remotekit v0.7.0.
  • fyne.io/systray comes from the barahn/systray fork (replace), pending upstream (fyne-io/systray#137).

Known, for v0.6

  • The consent prompt can open behind other windows (#147).
  • Windows Firewall asks about chirp.exe (#141).
  • Copying and pasting files with Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V on Linux (barahn/remotekit#131).
  • The Chirp bird and its sounds (#136, #81).
