What's new

book-kit spine prints a paperback cover's spine width, full wrap size, and 300 dpi pixel size for each printer, from print.trim and the page count (--pages, then print.page_count, then the built PDF). It warns on an odd page count and when a book is too short for KDP spine text. --json gives machine-readable output. (#18)

Two new print settings go with it:

  • print.paper picks KDP's paper (white, cream, standard-color, premium-color). Defaults to white.
  • print.caliper adds other printers' paper thickness in inches per page, e.g. { ingramspark: … }. Printers' papers differ, so take the figure from that printer's own cover template.

Other changes

  • The Docker image moves to Ubuntu 26 (#16).

Upgrading from 0.6

Nothing to change: the new settings have defaults. Move your book-kit dependency and any @v0.6 workflow refs to 0.7.0 / @v0.7, and run build parity to confirm your output is unchanged.

v0.6.0

v0.6.0
a504979

The first public release of book-kit, now on npm as book-kit.

book-kit was extracted from the build for Open and Async, and it still builds that book's published editions. It's an early alpha: some of the book's conventions are still hard-coded rather than set in config (#12), and config may change between 0.x releases.

npm install --save-dev book-kit

See the README to set up a book, and example/ for a complete one.
