• Clues by hand on the typewriter, or from the informant: bank notifications read on the phone, from apps marked as banks only, sorted by place once a suspect has been there twice.
• The files: twelve house suspects and honest citizens with police photos drawn in code, plus your own; a dossier with the record by month, the hours and days they work, and a monthly tail.
• Cases that open by themselves on five patterns (night work, small change, a spree, the same weekday, a broken tail), pinned on a cork board with red thread; motive, verdict, measure and the stamp.
• Ghosts (subscriptions found by themselves), cold cases (cash with no trace) and scheduled bills kept back from the advance.
• The safe and tickets out of town with ten stamps; the city paper for every period; the evening report at nine; ranks for work done.
