spellcheck v0.1.4
Pre-releaseThe first fix to come from a real Windows machine, and the first release a
Windows copy can install for itself: press the button in 0.1.3 and this one
arrives. macOS still downloads by hand.
The Windows build had been checking exactly one path for the League client,
C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\lockfile, which is only the installer's
default. The first tester's League was somewhere else, so the app reported
"Offline" through the lobby, champ select and the whole game — and gave no
way to tell that state apart from the client simply being closed. (#50)
Fixed
- The Windows build finds League wherever the installer put it. It reads
the Riot installer's own records under%ProgramData%\Riot Games— the
same files the installer maintains for itself — then tries the default
path and the same path on D:, E: and F:. The search is repeated on every
check, so installing League while the app is open is noticed without a
relaunch. (#51) - The offline notice says where it looked. A fold under "League isn't
running" lists every path tried and names the config file to edit if none
of them is right. Closed by default; nobody with League in the usual place
needs to open it. (#51) - A lockfile that exists but cannot be read is its own state — "Can't read",
with the path and the error — instead of the same "Offline" as a closed
client. It is the one failure here a person can fix. (#51) - The watcher's first status was always lost: it spoke before the page had
anyone listening, and the page's built-in default happened to say the same
words, which is why nobody noticed. The page now asks for the current
status on load. (#51)
Added
lockfileinproviders.jsonpoints the app at a client it cannot find on
its own. Tried before the installer's records, so a wrong value cannot hide
a client the search would have found.SPELLCHECK_LOCKFILEin the
environment still wins over it, and is for development — a Start Menu
launch never sees a shell export. (#51)
Known
- macOS remains notify-only until the app is code signed.
- Builds are unsigned on both platforms: macOS blocks the first open, and
Windows shows SmartScreen on every update because the updater re-runs the
installer. - The download address is an
r2.devbucket, which Cloudflare documents as
development-only. Moving off it later costs every installed copy one
manual reinstall. - Item set and rune page imports are still disabled everywhere.
- The under-120 MB memory target has still not been measured on Windows.
Downloads
The GitHub assets below are not downloadable without repository
access — the links above are the ones that work.
Installing
These builds are unsigned, so both systems will try to stop you once.
That is expected and not a sign of a bad download.
- macOS — blocked on first open. System Settings → Privacy &
Security → scroll down → Open Anyway. - Windows — SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC".
More info → Run anyway.
League does not need to be running to install or open the app. It
waits for the client and says so when there isn't one.
