Entities

Every entity the integration can create, with where its value comes from. The tables list 169 entities - 107 on the inverter, 40 on the battery storage and 22 on the smart meter - for a three-phase inverter with a battery, one PV string, one three-phase smart meter, a Web API login with the technician role and every value the inverter's web interface can report. Each further PV string adds the four MPPT module N sensors again, and no inverter reports every component value, so a real installation has a different count. The tables are generated from the integration's own entity tables, so they match the code of the release they were built from.

Which entities your inverter gets

An entity whose source the inverter does not have is not created:

  • Battery storage entities need the SunSpec storage model 124; the battery device appears only with it. So do the Storage … sensors on the inverter (the model 160 channels and Storage connection).
  • L2 and L3 values need a three-phase inverter or meter; a single-phase meter also has no AC voltage Line to Line.
  • MPPT module N sensors come once per PV string (model 160). N counts from 0 in the order of model 160: the first string is MPPT module 0. A string that is dark at the first setup gets its sensors once it sends a value.
  • Smart meter entities come once per meter the inverter reports, each meter its own device. The inverter's Load and Grid status need a smart meter. The per-phase energy counters (Exported L1 and the like) come only for a meter that counts them, since some meters report 0, SunSpec's "not implemented"; a counter that starts counting later gets its entity at the next restart.
  • Web API entities need a login with a role (see Web API); an entry Without the web API has none of them. Web API (technician role) rows need the technician role; with the customer role they are created but stay unavailable.
  • Web interface (no login) entities - the component sensors and the inverter's events - need no login, so an entry without the web API has them too. A component value the inverter does not report creates no entity: module temperatures, fans beyond the first two, a second ambient temperature, Surplus power available, and the output power and battery limit fields older firmware lacks. Firmware without the component endpoints gets none of them. One reported before keeps its entity, as unknown. A value that appears later gets its entity at the next reload of the entry.

Entities marked disabled by default are created but disabled; enable them on the device page under the disabled entities. diagnostic entities are listed under the device's diagnostics.

Reading the tables

  • Name and German name are the names Home Assistant shows in English and German. The entity ID follows from the device name and the English name on a new installation, for example sensor.fronius_symo_gen24_10_0_ac_power; an entry migrated from an earlier integration keeps the entity IDs it had. Take yours from Settings → Devices & services → Entities.
  • Source is the SunSpec model a Modbus value is read from (Modbus 124 is the storage model, Modbus 201-204 the meter models), or the web side: Web interface (no login) for the inverter's component and event endpoints, Web API for the values that need a login.
  • Unit is the unit Home Assistant shows.
  • Values gives a number's range and step. WChaMax is the battery's charge/discharge reference power (model 124), WMax the inverter's rated power (model 121); the number's range follows them. A select, a sensor with fixed states and an event list their states below the table: the key, which is the entity state and the value an action takes, and the English text the interface shows, such as charge_from_grid Charge from Grid.
  • What each entity means, with the registers behind it, is under What the entities mean below the tables; the battery controls are explained in Battery Control, the inverter controls in Battery Control.

What the entities mean

The meaning of each entity, with the register or field behind it. The controls are explained in Battery Control, the events and the throttle reason in Events and Throttling.

Maximum power The inverter's WMax (model 121), the reference of the AC limit.
AC limit rate The AC limit in watts as the inverter holds it; the control of the same name sets it.
Isolation Resistance The DC isolation resistance in MΩ.
Export soft limit The soft export limit in watts as the inverter holds it, over the Web API; unknown while it is off. Requires the technician role; set it with the control of the same name.
Load The household's net demand, derived from the primary smart meter. For a meter at the feed-in point it is the meter's power plus the inverter's AC power, read right after each other; for a meter in the consumption path it is that meter's power. Generation behind the meter that the inverter does not see (a balcony inverter, an AC-coupled battery) is not in it, so it is the consumption minus that generation and negative while that generation exports. It needs the meter's location from the inverter's PowerMeter endpoint and is unknown without it, and for an update in which the inverter and meter reads lie more than half a second apart.

Inverter diagnostics

Entity Description
Grid status From the meter and the inverter frequency: on_grid_operating with both within 50 ± 0.2 Hz; off_grid_operating with the meter outside that band while the inverter runs at 45 to 55 Hz (in backup operation about 53 Hz was observed); on_grid while the inverter stands still (below 1 Hz) and the meter sees the grid; off_grid with both below 1 Hz. Any other combination is unknown.
Energy management output 1 to 4
Energy management output 1 to 4 reason
From 1.4.0b3. Whether the relay the inverter's energy management switches is on, and why (/api/status/emrs). Off by default; enable the ones you use.
Throttle reason Why the inverter holds its output back right now; see Events and Throttling.
Status
Vendor status
The SunSpec operating state (St) and the Fronius vendor state code (StVnd).
Event severity The Modbus event bits (EvtVnd2); the events themselves come from the web interface, see Events and Throttling.

Battery storage sensors

Entity Description
State of charge The current battery level (ChaState).
Charge status holding / charging / discharging (plus off, empty, full, testing).
Modbus storage reserve Model 124 MinRsvPct. Not the SoC minimum of the inverter's own UI; see Battery Control.
Core storage control mode The storage control register (StorCtl_Mod) as the direction the battery is driven: in Charge from Grid it shows charge, in Discharge to Grid discharge; diagnostic. Storage Control Mode is the one to set.
Charging power
Discharging power
The charge and discharge rates (InWRte, OutWRte) as the registers hold them, in percent of WChaMax; a negative rate is a grid mode's power. A rate StorCtl_Mod keeps off is ignored by the inverter and may hold what another controller left; diagnostic.
Charge/discharge reference power WChaMax, the power the rates are a percentage of; diagnostic.
Grid charging Whether the storage may charge from the grid (ChaGriSet); diagnostic.
Capacity
Maximum charge rate
Maximum discharge rate

Modbus ID The meter's Modbus unit id; diagnostic.

Component sensors (web interface, no login)

The inverter's component endpoints (/api/components/inverter/readable and /api/components/BatteryManagementSystem/readable) add values Modbus does not carry.

  • A value the inverter does not report shows as unknown.
  • A module temperature, a fan beyond the first two or a second temperature the inverter does not report creates no entity; one it has reported before keeps its entity, as unknown. A module that appears later gets its entity at the next reload.
  • Output power limit, Output limited, Battery max charge power (DC-DC) and Battery max discharge power (DC-DC) follow the same rule, since older firmware lacks these fields. Such sensors an entry already has from an earlier version stay; if they only ever show unknown, disable them.
  • Firmware without these endpoints (HTTP 404) gets none of these sensors; a sensor registered before stays, as unknown, since one 404 from an endpoint that answered before proves nothing.
  • No sensor takes their serial numbers, part serials or device ids; the battery's serial number shows on its device page, as before, and is redacted in diagnostics.

On the inverter:
