Still 2.10.1

Choose a tag to compare

@carbongotfound carbongotfound released this 05 Nov 03:37

Still 2.10.1 brings automatic updates to the Mac and fixes What's New.

What's new in 2.10.1

  • The Mac updates itself. Like Windows, Still on the Mac now downloads new versions in the background and installs them when you close it, or right away from Update in the toolbar. Updates come through Sparkle and install only if they're signed with Still's own key.
  • Update automatically and Check for updates. Both live in Settings > About > Updates on Windows and the Mac. Turn off Update automatically and Still tells you a new version is out, then waits for you.
  • What's New shows over web pages. If Still opened on a web page after an update, the What's New popup stayed hidden behind it. It now shows on top.

Install

Windows 10 (1809+) or 11: download Still-Setup-x64.exe below and run it. No admin rights needed. Still isn't code-signed yet, so if SmartScreen warns, choose More info > Run anyway. If you have 2.0 or 2.10, Still updates itself.

macOS 12 or later: download Still-mac.dmg below, open it and drag Still to Applications. Still isn't notarized yet, so the first time, right-click Still and choose Open. Still-mac.zip is the same app as a zip. If you have 2.10.0 or earlier, Still shows Update and opens this page: install 2.10.1 once and it updates itself from then on.

Known issues

  • Windows memory: when Still goes idle, its memory use drops about 18% (800 to 653 MB in our test). The target is 20%. This was the same in 2.10.0.
  • Mac memory saver: Still unloads idle tabs when macOS warns that memory is low, but our Mac tests can't fake that warning yet.
  • Mac site permissions: our camera, location and pop-up permission tests don't run on the Mac yet. They need a camera the test Mac doesn't have.

Still 2.10

Choose a tag to compare

@carbongotfound carbongotfound released this 05 Nov 02:32

Still is an open-source browser with AI companions that run on the Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini or OpenCode app you're already signed into. Or bring an OpenAI- or Claude-compatible API.

What's new in 2.10

  • Gemini, OpenCode and your own API. Gemini and OpenCode join Claude, ChatGPT and Grok, and any OpenAI- or Claude-compatible API works too.
  • Setup in four steps. Connect your model, make a companion and give it a first task, all in one go.
  • Make them look your way. Pick a body, colors, a face and extras in the new look editor.
  • See what they remember. Every fact a companion keeps, with where it came from. Change or forget any of it.
  • Undo when you delete. Deleting a chat, a companion or your data asks first, then gives you a few seconds to undo.

Install

Windows 10 (1809+) or 11: download Still-Setup-x64.exe below and run it. No admin rights needed. Still isn't code-signed yet, so if SmartScreen warns, choose More info > Run anyway. If you have 2.0, Still updates itself.

macOS 12 or later: download Still-mac.dmg below, open it and drag Still to Applications. Still isn't notarized yet, so the first time, right-click Still and choose Open. Still-mac.zip is the same app as a zip.

Your AI: Claude Code, OpenAI's agent CLI, Grok Build, Gemini CLI or OpenCode, signed in to your own account. Or an OpenAI- or Claude-compatible API with your own key. Setup can install most of them for you.

Known issues

  • Windows memory: when Still goes idle, its memory use drops about 18% (800 to 653 MB in our test). The target is 20%. This was the same before 2.10.
  • Mac memory saver: Still unloads idle tabs when macOS warns that memory is low, but our Mac tests can't fake that warning yet, so it isn't covered by a test.
  • Mac site permissions: our camera, location and pop-up permission tests don't run on the Mac yet. They need a camera the test Mac doesn't have. This was the same in 2.0.

Still 2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@carbongotfound carbongotfound released this 31 Oct 12:15

Still is an open-source agent browser that works with the Claude, ChatGPT and Grok CLIs you're already signed into. No API keys.

What's new in 2.0

  • Hire companions. Six ready-made companions, each built for one part of your work: Sales Jonah, Growth Talia, Planner Nora, Marketing Leo, Engineer Ivan and Research Maya. Each one comes with its own instructions, four skills, a routine and knowledge files, and starts working as soon as you hire it. Or make your own with its own look, job and voice. Each one has its own profile, memory, skills, routines and AI.
  • Meet them before you hire. A companion's profile shows what's included, its skills, its routine and when it runs, the knowledge files it keeps and a few words from the companion itself. Routines stay off until you turn them on, and nothing gets sent, posted or changed without your OK.
  • Knowledge files. Each companion keeps working notes for its job, like your deals, your voice or your sources, on your computer. They fill in as you work together, and you can read them on its profile. Off-the-record chats and private tabs never end up in them.
  • Companions work together. Bring a teammate into a chat with @. Companions ask each other for help or hand work over, and each exchange shows as a card you can open or stop.
  • Mentions right in your message. Type @ for a companion, # for an open tab or a connected app and / for a skill. Each one sits in your sentence as its face, favicon or logo and its name, and deletes, copies and undoes as one piece. Drag and drop files into the chat too.
  • Plugins for hundreds of apps. Browse Composio's app catalog by category, every app with its real logo built in (no key needed to see them), and connect an app in one click with your own Composio API key, kept encrypted on your computer. Reading is free; anything that sends, posts, deletes or pays asks you first. Companions load an app's tools only when a task needs them.
  • Skills and memory. Write short how-tos your companions follow. Each companion remembers what matters about you, and you can see, edit and delete every memory.
  • A smoother home screen. Every companion's face sits in the switcher at the top. Pick one and it grows into the middle while the last one moves back into the row. Each companion responds only to its own body.
  • Setup keeps your place. Close Still partway through setup and it opens again at the same step with your picks. Sign-in pages open in front of setup, not behind it.
  • Import from other browsers. A browser signed in to an account, like Chrome, keeps that account's bookmarks and passwords in their own files, and Still brings those over too. On a Mac, Still now also brings Chrome's cookies (and those of Brave, Edge, Arc, Vivaldi and Opera), so you stay signed in to your sites. When macOS keeps Still out of Chrome's or Safari's data, Still says so and opens the right folder for you, so one click on Open lets your bookmarks and history in.
  • Still's own pages by address. Type still://chats, still://companions or still://settings in the address bar to go straight there.
  • New Settings and per-site permissions. A searchable Settings window, automatic chat titles, and camera, microphone, location and pop-up permissions per site from the address bar.

Install

Windows 10 (1809+) or 11: download Still-Setup-x64.exe below and run it. No admin rights needed. Still isn't code-signed yet, so if SmartScreen warns, choose More info > Run anyway.

macOS 12 or later: download Still-mac.dmg below, open it and drag Still to Applications. Still isn't notarized yet, so the first time, right-click Still and choose Open. Still-mac.zip is the same app as a zip.

Your AI: Claude Code, ChatGPT's CLI from OpenAI or Grok Build, signed in to your own account. Setup can install and sign in for you.

Still 1.6.34

  • Never lose what you typed: if a page reloads or navigates while you're writing (an AI chat, a post, a form), a chip offers to put your text back.
  • AI sidebar: pick the model and effort right in the chat box, see your usage, and sign in from the sidebar. Chats that were stopped early now continue properly. Claude Code and Codex fixes.
  • AI works alongside you: tabs the AI opens go into an "AI" group in the background with a bot badge, so you can keep browsing while it works.
  • Extensions like Chrome: toolbar clicks reach the extension, side panels dock on the right, pin extensions to the toolbar, and "Add to Still" on the Chrome Web Store.
  • YouTube: ads that still reach the player are skipped, and extension side panels no longer cover fullscreen videos.
  • Still recovers by itself if the browser engine crashes, with your tabs restored.

  • AI sidebar setup. The first time you open it, pick Claude, Codex or Grok. Change it anytime in the sidebar's settings or in Settings → Browsing.
  • Saved conversations. Chats are kept on this PC; open, continue or delete them from the history button.
  • Formatted replies. Bold, lists, headings, tables, code and links show properly. Links open in a new tab.
  • Smarter sidebar agent. It knows its own name and which tab you're on, works through tasks step by step, and only uses your current profile.
  • Agents show by name. The bar says "Claude is using Still" or "Codex is using Still" instead of an internal id.
  • Temporary windows for MCP agents. An agent can work in a separate window with no cookies or logins, deleted once it closes.

  • AI sidebar now uses your own CLI. Claude, Codex and Grok run through Claude Code, Codex and Grok Build on your PC, signed in with your own account. No API keys; Still never sees your login. Install the CLI and sign in once in a terminal, and the sidebar finds it.
  • Follow-up messages continue the same conversation, and Stop ends the run right away.

@carbongotfound carbongotfound released this 09 Oct 07:36
  • AI sidebar (robot button in the toolbar): chat with Claude, Codex or Grok using your own API key, through each company's official API, which is the way their terms allow. It can read the page and click, type and navigate for you, but never sees private tabs, passwords or cookies. Keys are encrypted on your PC. Usage is billed by the provider.
  • Save password prompt: after you sign in, a "Save password?" bar appears above the page on its own. You no longer have to open Passwords. Offering to save is now on by default.
  • MCP with multiple profiles: every tool takes an optional profile name, and list_profiles shows them. If a profile is closed, Still opens it.
  • Fewer processes: the engine's GPU and network work now run inside its main process. That's 2 fewer processes and about 190 MB less memory with six tabs. Each site still runs in its own sandboxed process.

  • Extensions: the puzzle button now lists your extensions. Clicking one opens its popup in a small panel under the button, like Chrome, instead of a new tab. "Manage extensions" is at the bottom.
  • Less RAM: background tabs fully unload after 5 minutes (pinned tabs and tabs with typed text are kept). Selecting one loads it again. While Still is in the background it hands spare memory back to Windows. In a 6-tab test, Still dropped from 1174 MB to 774 MB after 7 minutes idle.
  • Mac: import bookmarks and history from Safari, Chrome, Brave, Edge, Arc, Vivaldi or Opera (Menu → Import browsing data). Idle background tabs sleep after 5 minutes. Safari import needs Full Disk Access for Still.
  • Note: an unloaded tab starts with fresh back/forward history.

@carbongotfound carbongotfound released this 09 Oct 05:06
  • Upload card: a site's upload button opens a card under it with your recent files (the copied image first) and Open a file. Sites only see the file you pick.
  • YouTube: ads are removed from YouTube's data before they load. Still no longer fast-forwards or skips ads.
  • Smoother: closing a window is instant, and fewer false freeze reports.

Still for Mac

Still now runs on macOS 12.3 or later, natively on Apple silicon and Intel. Download Still-mac.zip, unzip it and drag Still into Applications. It isn't notarized yet, so the first time, right-click Still and choose Open.

The Mac version has the same interface, with tabs, private tabs, history, bookmarks, downloads, themes, both tab layouts, full screen and the same blocking. Importing from other browsers, the password vault, extensions, profiles, AI agents and in-app updates are Windows-only for now.

YouTube ads

  • Ads are now stripped from YouTube's own data before the page reads it, so video ads, home-feed ads, search ads, banners and sidebar ads never load.
  • Any ad that still gets through is muted, sped up and skipped automatically.
  • Turn Blocking off for youtube.com from the shield icon if a video ever misbehaves.

Windows: run Still-Setup-x64.exe, or use the portable Still.exe. Mac: Still-mac.zip is attached a few minutes after release.
