0.1.18

@rcasazza rcasazza released this 05 Nov 22:57

On Windows, docker run no longer hangs in terminals Wirescry opens: Docker setup is off on Windows for now.

Fixed

  • Windows: docker run hung in Wirescry terminals. With Docker Desktop on Windows, a container's output appeared, but docker run never finished afterwards. Wirescry no longer sets up Docker on Windows: terminals it opens talk to Docker directly again, as before 0.1.16, and Setup → Docker says it doesn't set Docker up there yet. Docker setup on macOS and Linux is unchanged.
    • If you opened a terminal from Wirescry 0.1.16 or 0.1.17 on Windows, close it and open a new one. Until you do, docker commands in it fail with "cannot find the file specified". Or clear the setting in that terminal: Remove-Item Env:DOCKER_HOST in PowerShell, set DOCKER_HOST= in Command Prompt.

0.1.17

Choose a tag to compare

@rcasazza rcasazza released this 05 Nov 20:44

Wirescry now runs on ARM Linux, and its AppImage starts on a fresh Ubuntu.

New

  • Linux on ARM. Wirescry now has an ARM64 AppImage (Wirescry-0.1.17-arm64.AppImage) and .deb (wirescry_0.1.17_arm64.deb) for ARM Linux machines, including Linux virtual machines on Apple silicon Macs. The AppImage updates itself like the x64 one.
  • Firewall warning for Docker on Linux. When ufw is on, containers can't reach Wirescry, and their requests used to just hang. Setup → Docker now says so, with the command that lets Docker's networks in, ready to copy. The note goes away once a container gets through.

Fixed

  • The AppImage now starts on a fresh Ubuntu 22.04 or later, without installing FUSE 2 (libfuse2) first.
  • When you don't have permission to use Docker, docker commands in a Wirescry terminal now say how to fix it (join the docker group on Linux, or docker-users on Windows), instead of only "connect EACCES".

0.1.16

@rcasazza rcasazza released this 05 Nov 14:22

Wirescry now captures the traffic of Docker containers.

New

  • Docker containers. Containers you start with docker run or docker compose up in a Wirescry terminal now send their HTTP and HTTPS traffic through Wirescry and trust its certificate. Your images, Dockerfiles and compose files stay as they are.
    • Containers still reach each other directly: Compose service names, container names and network aliases skip the proxy.
    • Their requests to host.docker.internal go through Wirescry, so calls to servers on your computer show up too.
    • docker compose up in a Wirescry terminal recreates containers that were started without Wirescry, and recreates them again without its settings when you next run it elsewhere.
    • Works with Docker Desktop on macOS, Windows and Linux, and with Docker Engine on Linux. Setup → Docker shows whether your Docker is set up, the last container and why it was left alone if it was, and a switch to turn this off.
    • How it works, and what's not covered

0.1.15

@rcasazza rcasazza released this 05 Nov 01:24

Wirescry Pro now checks your traffic against your OpenAPI specs.

New

  • API specs (Wirescry Pro). Add your OpenAPI specs in the new APIs tab. They can be 3.0, 3.1 or 3.2, as JSON or YAML, including specs split across files in the same folder. Every request Wirescry captures for one of their base URLs is then checked against it:
    • In Traffic, each request gets a badge: Spec when it matches, Spec: N issues when it doesn't, or Not in spec when the spec has no such operation.
    • Its details show the operation it matched, and each problem found in the request or the response, such as a missing required field, a wrong type or an undocumented status.
    • Checking runs in the background, so large or complicated responses never slow the proxy down.
  • Fill Compose from a spec (Wirescry Pro). In the Compose tab, From an API spec lists the spec's operations. Choose one, and the composer fills in its method, URL, required parameters and an example body. Parameters become {{variables}} for an environment to fill in.

Improved

  • Wirescry Pro's rules list shows an Off tag on rules that are switched off, and a saved rule's editor has its Enabled checkbox again.
  • Screen readers now name the Compose tab's Headers and Body fields by their labels alone.

0.1.14

@rcasazza rcasazza released this 03 Nov 22:42

Wirescry can now send requests as well as capture them.

New

  • Compose. A new Compose tab sends a request you write: method, URL, headers and a text body. Press Send, or ⌘/Ctrl+Enter. It goes through Wirescry like any other request, so it shows in Traffic (with a Sent badge), rules apply to it, and it's recorded even while recording is paused. The response opens under the editor, and Cancel stops one still on its way.
  • Edit and resend. Right-click a captured request, or use the button in its details, to open it in Compose, ready to change and send again.
  • Wirescry Pro: saved requests, variables and Copy as. Beside the composer, Pro keeps a list of saved requests, which you can export and import. It fills in {{variables}} from environments you can switch between, such as dev and staging. Copy as turns a request into fetch, Python (requests) or HTTPie code that matches what Send sends.

Improved

  • A response the client closed part way through now keeps its status, headers and the bytes that arrived, marked as cut off. Before, it stayed in the list as if still waiting.

Fixed

  • Wirescry Pro: if a damaged rules file can't be backed up, Pro now turns off rule changes and says so, instead of saving over the only copy.

Clear can now be undone, and Wirescry finds browsers you install while it's running.

New

  • Undo after Clear. Clear empties the list at once and offers Undo for 10 seconds (longer while your pointer or keyboard focus is on the notice). Only then are the cleared requests and their bodies deleted. Requests that arrive in the meantime stay.
  • Rescan browsers. Setup → Browsers → Rescan looks for browsers again, so one you've just installed shows up without restarting Wirescry.

Changed

  • Clearing the list during a HAR import no longer stops the import.

Wirescry now has documentation, and Help links to it.

New

  • Help → Documentation opens Wirescry's documentation: getting started, capturing traffic, trusting the certificate, search and filters, HAR, privacy, troubleshooting, and Pro's rules, breakpoints and license.

@rcasazza rcasazza released this 03 Nov 14:46

Easier terminal and certificate setup, clearer failures, and a file picker for Pro rules.

New

  • Set up a terminal that's already open with one line. Wirescry writes a small script for bash/zsh, fish, PowerShell and Command Prompt; the full list of variables is still under Show what this sets.
  • How to trust the certificate on this computer, under Manual setup: the steps and commands for macOS, Windows and Linux, and how to remove it again.
  • Click the proxy address at the top to copy it.
  • Pro: Choose… next to a rule's reply file, and a warning when there's no file at that path.

Improved

  • When a server never answers, the response is labelled "sent by Wirescry", and the failure no longer shows internal error names such as "AggregateError".
  • Error messages can be dismissed, and screen readers announce them.
  • The quick filters are one Tab stop; the arrow keys move between them.
  • Pro: the rule editor says what the client sees for Close the connection and Time out, and its Close button is now Close editor. A paused request's Method suggests the usual methods, and the license key field has a label.

0.1.10

@rcasazza rcasazza released this 02 Nov 23:54

Copy and save bodies, keyboard shortcuts, and more time at a breakpoint.

New

  • Copy and Save… on every request and response body. Save writes the whole body, decoded (from gzip, Brotli and so on), however large.
  • A Query section lists a request's URL parameters.
  • Menus and shortcuts:
    • File: Import HAR… (⌘O / Ctrl+O) and Export HAR… (⌘S / Ctrl+S).
    • Capture: Pause Recording (⌘P / Ctrl+P), Clear (⌘K / Ctrl+K) and Find (⌘F / Ctrl+F).
    • Help: Wirescry's website, and Report a Problem….
  • Pro: a paused request's countdown turns orange in its last 30 seconds, and Wait 5 more minutes gives it longer (up to 30 minutes in all). If it carries on while you're editing it, your edits stay on screen so you can copy them.

0.1.9

Choose a tag to compare

@rcasazza rcasazza released this 02 Nov 23:02

If Wirescry's proxy ever stops unexpectedly, you're no longer left with an empty list.

Improved

  • When the proxy restarts, the requests you had captured stay in the list, dimmed. The request you had open keeps what it showed; for the others, only the summary is left. Clear removes them.
  • A notice says when the proxy stopped and restarted, with a Show log button.
  • If the proxy keeps stopping, the message is plain English instead of a stack trace, with Restart proxy and Show log buttons.
  • Recording stays paused through a restart.
  • Pro: unsaved changes to a rule are kept through a restart.

Fixed

  • A proxy that couldn't start was retried five times, so the status flickered.
