Shoehorn v0.1.1

@catvitalio catvitalio released this 12 Oct 17:04

Install mods and fan translations into your Steam games without leaving Gaming Mode.

A mod almost always ships as a Windows setup.exe that wants to write into the game's own
folder. Shoehorn runs it inside that game's Proton prefix, straight from the couch: pick
the game, pick the installer, press Run. The installer opens on screen like any other
game, and leaves your library again when you close it.

Install on SteamOS

Turn on Developer mode in Decky's settings, open the Developer tab and use
Install from URL:

https://github.com/catvitalio/shoehorn/releases/latest/download/Shoehorn.zip

On NixOS, add the flake instead — see the README.

What you need

  • Decky Loader
  • The game installed, and launched at least once, so Steam has created its Windows
    environment

The plugin follows your SteamOS language and reads the language the installer was written
for, so its text stays readable instead of turning into mojibake.

Changes since v0.1.0

  • The check for whether a game's prefix is still in use no longer requires fcntl to be
present in Decky's bundled interpreter: it is imported where it is used, and the plugin
    loads either way.
