envguard v0.1.0

@celaldrg celaldrg released this 26 Oct 14:29

First release of envguard, a zero-dependency linter for .env files.

  • Strict dotenv parser: export, single/double quotes, multiline values, escapes, inline comments
  • Checks: syntax errors, invalid keys, duplicates, spaces around =, unquoted whitespace
  • Compares .env with .env.example: missing keys, empty values, undocumented keys
  • Detects real-looking secrets committed to .env.example (AWS, GitHub, Slack, Stripe, Google, OpenAI-style keys, private keys, JWTs, passwords in URLs, high-entropy strings) and ignores obvious placeholders
  • Output as text, JSON or GitHub Actions annotations; --strict turns warnings into failures
  • pre-commit hook included; tested on Python 3.9 to 3.13

Install: pip install git+https://github.com/celaldrg/envguard
