Version 0.5.0
av-denoise v0.5.0 "Darting dagger"
A nice release which brings in further improvements to the NL4D algorithm, particularly aimed at better denoising, and increased sharpness and detail retention. Along with general performance improvements and a new (unstable) feature!
What's new
- NL4D now uses true 4D transforms across time for better noise & texture isolation.
- (NL4D) Improved grain and noise estimation within the algorithm with measured error within 1% of true on synthetic tests.
- (NL4D) Intra-frame adaptive noise strength driven by luma behaviour.
- (NL4D) Phsycovisual options for adjusting the denoising strength on lineart, smooth surfaces, shadows and more to better control the behaviour how you want it. Currently disabled by default, you can opt-in via
--enable-psy. - (NL4D) Unstable AV1 Film Grain Synthesis support, constructing the grain table based on the denoiser's internal grain and noise model taking into account the noise/grain removed already.
- Still very early days and not as good as it could be, but please give it a test and let me know :)
- Performance improvements to the noise estimation and motion compensation kernels.
- Performance improvements to the search paths using f16 rings where available.
- Performance improvements to the VapourSynth plugin using a double-buffer layer to prevent stalls from out-of-order frames.
- VapourSynth plugin now uses the same grain and noise modelling behaviour as the CLI.
