What's new in 1.0.8
Three fixes, all in the subscription features. The first two are the ones worth reading.
"Renew now" could end a healthy subscription. The button charges the next period early — it is offered on subscriptions that are not yet due. If that charge was declined, it was handled as though a scheduled payment had failed: the subscription was marked failed, the payer was emailed about money that was not yet owed, and because the retry ladder was being advanced by an extra payment nobody owed, repeated attempts could leave a healthy subscription expired.
An early charge that does not go through now changes nothing. The schedule, the retry count and the status stay as they were, and the reason is shown on the screen. The scheduled cycle still runs.
A card update could restart a subscription the customer had cancelled. The link emailed to a payer is signed, but it does not expire and it is not single use — so one kept in an inbox still worked months later. Completing it stored the new card and set the subscription back to active, silently undoing the cancellation, and the next renewal then charged the card the customer had cancelled to get away from.
A cancelled subscription is now refused before any payment page opens. The check sits at the one point every route into that flow passes through.
The subscriptions screen offered buttons that could not work. The screen and the actions behind it asked for different permissions, so a role that could see subscriptions got a full action column whose every press answered "you are not allowed". The buttons are now shown only to users who can use them, and a user who may only read the screen still gets the full list — without controls they cannot use.
Releases now publish a downloadable archive. This plugin is installed by upload rather than from the WordPress plugin directory, so a released version previously left you nothing to install. Every release now carries chip-for-formidable-forms.zip.
