BSidesPDX 2018 Workshop

UEFI and CHIPSEC Development for Security Researchers

Intel's PAR (Platform Armoring and Resiliency) team presented this workshop during BSidesPDX 2018

Setup instructions:

• Within a Linux environment, clone both repos below into path ~/src/dev/
  • CHIPSEC https://github.com/chipsec/chipsec
  • EDK2 https://github.com/tianocore/edk2
• Extract BSidesPkg.zip into ~/src/dev
• Download workshop slides
• Follow the setup instructions for both projects:
  • CHIPSEC: Follow Linux installation manual instructions - Page 4 https://github.com/chipsec/chipsec/blob/master/chipsec-manual.pdf
  • EDK2:
    • Install required software from apt https://github.com/tianocore/tianocore.github.io/wiki/Unix-like-systems
    • Generate OpenSSL Crypto Library https://github.com/tianocore/tianocore.github.io/wiki/UDK2018-How-to-Build
    • Finally, from "~/src/dev/BSidesPkg" cd into "Lab 0" and follow the slide material (Slide 17)
• You should now be able to follow along the workshop slides and complete the training. cd into the each lab folder to find the scripts and code specific to that lab. The solutions to the labs are included as separate folders.
