New

  • Audio hosted on your site is saved under the audio file's own name, cleaned up so it is safe to save on any computer, instead of a name built from the sermon title.
  • The sermon Transcript box accepts a .vtt or .srt caption file. Timestamps and caption markup are removed, leaving the text.

Fixed

  • Scripture references that use "Psalm", a common abbreviation (Ps, 1 Cor, 1Cor, 2Co, 1Jn), or a spelled-out number (First Corinthians, 3rd John) are saved as the book name CP Sermons stores. "Psalm 23" is stored as "Psalms 23". "2 Corinthians" is left as 2 Corinthians. This applies to SermonAudio import, CSV import, and saving a sermon in wp-admin. SermonAudio and the sermon edit screen keep "Psalm 23:1, 4" as one passage. A CSV scripture cell still splits on every comma, so "Psalm 23:1, 4" in a CSV cell loses the ", 4". "Ps 23, Jn 3:16" in a CSV cell is two references and both are kept.
  • SermonAudio imports now use the sermon's full title when SermonAudio provides one, and the abbreviated title when that full title is missing or blank. Sermons already imported pick up that title the next time they are fetched: the most recent ones (Check Count, 50 by default) on the next scheduled sync or Check Now, and older ones when you start a full import. A published sermon keeps its link. A sermon that is still pending may get a new link when it is published. An existing sermon keeps its status, so trash, draft, pending, private, and scheduled sermons stay that way, and a scheduled sermon keeps its date. Speakers and series keep their status when they are updated, the same as sermons.
  • The analytics average view time now averages each separate listen instead of adding up every listen from the same visitor, so repeat listeners can lower the number.
  • YouTube transcript import works again after YouTube changed how it serves caption files. When a transcript still cannot be fetched, the sermon edit screen says so and suggests uploading a .vtt or .srt file or pasting the transcript. YouTube links with extra parameters, and youtu.be, live, embed, and Shorts links, are recognized.
  • SermonAudio import includes sermons that are not part of a series.
  • Filtering or searching sermons on a page that uses the [cp-sermons] shortcode no longer leads to a "page not found" error.
  • Download in the share menu now downloads audio hosted on your site instead of opening it in a browser tab. SoundCloud audio still links to SoundCloud.
  • SermonAudio audio now downloads instead of playing in a tab. SermonAudio chooses the file name. Audio on other hosts still opens from its host, and that host chooses the file name.

Improved

  • Downloading audio hosted on your site keeps the original file name instead of the sermon title.
  • The sermon CSV export under Tools → Import/Export now downloads directly instead of saving a copy in the uploads folder, where anyone could open it, including draft and private sermons. Updating to 1.8.0 deletes the CSV files earlier exports left in the uploads folders.
  • Sermon templates — the template shortcode, the template block, and the Beaver Builder, Divi, and Elementor template modules — now only show published templates. Draft templates still show for people who can edit them.
  • Sermon audio downloads now only work for sermons the visitor can view. The audio of a draft, private, scheduled, or password-protected sermon can no longer be downloaded by its ID.
  • Draft, private, scheduled, and password-protected sermons, and their variations, are only shown to visitors who can view them.
  • YouTube transcript import, for one sermon or in bulk, now checks that the person importing can edit each sermon.
