  • rpm (Fedora) and deb (Debian) packages, built and attached to each GitHub release
  • Status messages during plotting are shown in the UI language (they were always German before)
  • Own device profiles in ~/.config/linto/devices/; a profile with the same file name replaces the bundled one
  • Device Settings: button that opens the folder for own device profiles
  • Application ID de.colorcube.linto for the menu entry and icon; linto --install-desktop removes the old linto.desktop entry
  • Works with svgelements 1.7 (as shipped by Debian 13)

LINTO 0.1.0 – first public alpha

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@colorcube colorcube released this 31 Oct 23:13

First public release of LINTO, a slicer, layout editor and streaming controller for HP-GL pen plotters.

Alpha status: LINTO has been developed and tested on Linux with a Mutoh XP-500. All other device profiles are untested on real hardware. Please report how it works with your plotter in Hardware reports.

Highlights

  • Layout in real millimeters: place SVG and HP-GL artwork on DIN A4–A0 or custom sheets, with the plotter's real hard-clip margins. Query the sheet size directly from the plotter (OH;).
  • Slicer pipeline: curve flattening, merging of connected segments, simplification and travel optimization (2-Opt) to reduce pen-up moves.
  • Simulation: scrub through the whole plot before drawing, including pen-up travel, with a pre-flight summary of drawing distance, travel and estimated time.
  • Pens: stroke colors are mapped automatically to up to 8 pens; speed (VS) and force (FS) can be set per pen.
  • Reliable streaming over RS-232 or TCP with hardware flow control (RTS/CTS), pause, resume and safe abort.
  • 26 device profiles: Mutoh XP-500, a generic HP-GL profile and 24 profiles adapted from InkCut (Roland, Graphtec, Summa, US Cutter, …).
  • Built-in emulator: try LINTO without a plotter: python3 -m linto.emulator --tcp 9999.
  • User interface in English and German, with a manual in both languages: https://colorcube.github.io/linto/

Installation

pipx install git+https://github.com/colorcube/linto.git@v0.1.0
linto --install-desktop # optional: application menu entry with icon

Requires Python 3.11 or newer.

Known limitations

- Only HP-GL / MH-GL plotters; no G-code (GRBL, Marlin) yet.
- No drag-knife compensation for vinyl cutters.
- No direct DXF import; convert to SVG first.
- Default pen names and pen presets are still in German.
