⚠ BREAKING CHANGES

  • require Android API 24 and move to Firebase Messaging 26, Play services base 18.11 and WorkManager 2.12 (#950)

Migrating from 4.x

  • Raise your app's minSdk to 24 (Android 7.0). Apps that need API 21 to 23 can stay on 4.x.
  • The SDK now brings in firebase-messaging 26 (Firebase BoM 35), play-services-base 18.11 and WorkManager 2.12. If your app pins older versions of these, update them.
  • Build with compileSdk 36 or later and AGP 8.9.1 or later, which AndroidX Core 1.17 (already in recent 4.x releases) requires. Kotlin apps need Kotlin 2.0 or later to compile against the SDK.
  • WorkManager 2.12 moves its default executors onto Dispatchers.Default and lowers the worker parallelism floor from 2 to 1, which apps on WorkManager's default Configuration pick up.
