SHA256SUMS.txt lists the checksums of all files.
macOS: Moritz is signed ad hoc but not notarized. On first start, right-click Moritz.app > Open, or run xattr -cr /Applications/Moritz.app. There is no build for Intel Macs.
GPU rendering: these builds carry no precompiled CUDA / HIP / oneAPI kernels. Cycles renders on the CPU, or compiles GPU kernels on your machine where it can.
New in 0.3.0
- Linux and macOS builds, alongside Windows.
- Updates: Moritz checks GitHub for new releases (Help > Check for Updates, and once a day at start when online access is on). It can download and install them itself when you quit (Preferences > System > Updates > Install Updates Automatically; off by default). Downloads are verified against SHA256SUMS.txt.
- Manual: Help > Manual opens the Moritz manual at https://cyberhirsch.github.io/moritz/manual/0.3/
- MCP server and command line:
moritz-cliand an MCP server let scripts and AI assistants drive Moritz. - Per-user Windows installer.
- Create tab: category buttons in a column; the new object's parameters right in the Create panel, as in Max.
- Cap Relax: quad caps and quad poles of the primitives (Cylinder, Cone, ChamferCyl, Spindle, Gengon, Prism, Sphere, Capsule, OilTank) and Edit Poly's Cap even out their grid; 0 gives the old layout.
- SwiftLoop works as in Max: click to insert loops, Alt+click to slide, Ctrl+click to select, Ctrl+Shift+click to remove.
- Slice Plane: a slim handle instead of the big white disk.
- Smart Extrude: plane handles keep their plane move; the cap stays selected after an off-normal move.
- No Blender in the menus and splash, apart from the credit. The .max importer is on by default.
Known issues
- This is an alpha. Please report bugs and wishes at https://github.com/cyberhirsch/moritz/issues
- The Linux and macOS builds are new and have been tested in CI only.
- Linux: Cycles has no Intel GPU (oneAPI) device in this build.
Moritz is built on Blender 5.3 (GPL-2.0-or-later).
Moritz 0.2.0 Alpha
Moritz 0.2.0 is Blender 5.3 for 3ds Max users. This is an early alpha: many features are still missing and you will run into bugs.
Downloads
moritz-0.2.0-windows-x64.msi: installer for Windows 10/11 (64-bit), installs to Program Files\Moritz.moritz-0.2.0-windows-x64.zip: portable; unzip anywhere and runmoritz.exe.
Moritz installs next to Blender and never replaces it. It registers no file types, so .blend files keep opening in Blender. Settings live in %APPDATA%\Moritz.
What's in it
- Max workflow: the Moritz and Max keymaps (Moritz is the default), Max navigation, the right-click quad menu, and Max or Blender names for tools and modifiers.
- Command Panel with Create, Modify and Utilities. Create shows all object types at once in Max's order, including Teapot and Suzanne. Modify has Editable Poly / Edit Poly with Soft Selection and Edit Geometry at object level.
- Native modifiers: Edit Poly, Edit Spline, Cap Holes, Normal, Mesh Clean, Quadify Mesh, ProOptimizer, VertexPaint and Retopology.
- Shift+drag with the Move tool: clones objects and runs Smart Extrude on polygons, also from the gizmo's ring and arrows; an arrow keeps the move along that axis in the current Transform Orientation.
- Tabbed docking: drag an editor's header onto another area to stack it as a tab, to an edge to split, or out of the window for a new window.
- Max icons and the Moritz branding throughout.
Files
Files from stock Blender open unchanged in Moritz. Files saved in Moritz open in stock Blender 5.3, but the native Moritz modifiers survive there only as disabled "None" modifiers, and stock Blender evaluates the stack without them. Saving in stock Blender and reopening in Moritz brings them back.
Status
Alpha. Many features are still missing, and you will run into bugs. Bugs get fixed, so please report every one in #bug-reports on the Moritz Discord. Missing something you rely on? Add it to the wishlist in #feature-requests.
All automated tests pass; the hand tests with a real mouse and two monitors (docking, the Max workflow, Edit Poly) are still to be done.
Moritz is free software under the GNU GPL, like Blender. The source is in this repository, and the readme in each package links to it.
