Android ART Optimizer v0.2.1
Android ART Optimizer 0.2.1
A permanent APK download URL for AFTVnews Downloader and other direct installation tools, plus the dependency and build-tool updates merged since v0.2.0.
What changed
- Each release now provides identical signed APKs as android-art-optimizer-v0.2.1.apk and android-art-optimizer.apk. Both are covered by SHA256SUMS.txt.
- The permanent latest APK URL uses GitHub's latest published production release. Future releases require no change to this URL or a Downloader code created for it.
- The release workflow downloads and verifies both uploaded APKs before publishing, then verifies the permanent URL without authentication when GitHub selects the new release as latest.
- The README documents direct downloading and public repository access. Versioning, signing, source packaging, and GitHub's release-selection behavior are preserved.
- Includes Android Gradle Plugin 9.4.1, Gradle 9.8.0, Compose compiler plugin 2.4.20, Compose BOM 2026.09.00, and ZXing 3.5.4, with updated dependency/license records.
- Includes GitHub Actions updates for checkout v7, Java setup v6, artifact upload v7, and Gradle setup v6 using basic caching.
Newly included merged maintenance PRs: #2, #3, #4, #6, #7, #9, #11, #12, #13, alongside the permanent-download change in #17. Previously released Ethernet ADB and v1 features remain included.
Install or update
Download android-art-optimizer.apk or android-art-optimizer-v0.2.1.apk; they are the same APK. Android 11+ is required. The app supports phones, tablets, and compatible Android/Google TVs, using runtime capability detection.
Official v0.1.0/v0.2.0 installations can update in place with the same production signing certificate. Debug/test builds use a different certificate: note your configured package IDs, uninstall the test build, install the official APK, and authorize/pair again. Uninstalling removes the test build's local data; the release does not uninstall anything automatically.
After this release is published and the permanent URL is verified, a numeric Downloader code can be generated through AFTVnews and added to the README. That documentation-only update needs no additional app release. The code must target the permanent URL rather than a version-specific asset.
Validation and limits
Lint, 31 JVM tests, debug APK assembly, signed release candidate assembly, and 12 release-helper regression tests pass. Workflow validation covers YAML syntax and GitHub Actions semantics. Offline workflow tests verify identical stable/versioned APKs, upload/download checksums, draft reruns, published-release protection, and the permanent download check.
The current debug candidate was installed in place on the TCL C765 (firmware reports TCL Smart TV Pro/G08), Android 14. Shared preferences were preserved exactly during installation, and startup showed Connected over Ethernet with verified device identity. The user reported that the app works. This is debug-build device validation; the downloaded production APK's signature, version, checksums, source archive, and permanent URL are verified separately during publication. This release retains the existing connection and optimizer behavior; the broader device limitations remain in the test plan.
The release includes both signed APK filenames, SHA256SUMS.txt, and the source ZIP with the exact tagged application source and pinned dependency sources. Only one APK is needed for installation.
Android ART Optimizer v0.2.0
Android ART Optimizer 0.2.0
Automatic Wi-Fi/Ethernet detection and same-device Ethernet ADB support for compatible Android TVs.
What changed
- Detects local Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections automatically and reconnects when the link or address changes.
- Supports Ethernet ADB on TVs whose firmware exposes it, sometimes through the USB debugging setting in Developer Options. No IP entry or manual connection-mode switch is needed.
- Displays Connected over Wi-Fi or Connected over Ethernet, the ADB path, and instructions when debugging or authorization is required.
- Keeps the existing Wireless Debugging pairing, notification reply, and QR/web methods.
- Stops interrupted optimization or console work before reconnecting. Commands and batches are never resumed automatically; the app explains when a result may be unknown.
Install or update
Download android-art-optimizer-v0.2.0.apk. The same APK supports phones, tablets, and compatible Android/Google TVs. Android 11+ is required; Android 13+ remains the intended TV baseline, with actual support detected at runtime.
Official v0.1.0 installations can update in place with the same signing certificate, keeping local settings and records. Debug/test builds use a different certificate: note your configured package IDs, uninstall the test build, install the official APK, and authorize/pair again. Uninstalling removes the test build's local data; the release does not uninstall anything automatically.
For Ethernet, connect the cable, enable the TV's USB debugging or network debugging option if its firmware supports Ethernet ADB, and approve Android's authorization prompt for ART Optimizer if shown. Standard Ethernet ADB is unencrypted; use a trusted local network. The app only connects to the device's own current Ethernet addresses and does not scan the LAN or enable debugging services.
For Wi-Fi, use the existing Wireless Debugging → Pair device with pairing code procedure. See the user guide.
Validation and limits
Verified on a TCL C765 (firmware reports TCL Smart TV Pro/G08), Android 14: automatic Ethernet connection, saved-credential authentication, identity verification, reconnect after relaunch, and automatic return to the existing Wi-Fi TLS connection after the user unplugged Ethernet and enabled Wireless Debugging. Configured apps and optimization records were preserved. Diagnostics detected compilation and ART inspection; no configured app was optimized during these connection tests.
Lint, 31 JVM tests, debug/release builds, and five release-helper regression tests pass. Ethernet support depends on firmware exposing a network ADB listener; a USB debugging setting alone does not guarantee this on every device. Physical Wi-Fi-to-Ethernet return switching, fresh-key authorization/denial, revoked wired authorization, and a network switch during compilation remain unverified on this TV. The existing Kadb handshake timeout limitation remains documented in the architecture.
The release includes the signed APK, SHA256SUMS.txt, and a source ZIP containing the exact tagged application source and pinned dependency sources. Only the APK is needed for installation.
Android ART Optimizer v0.1.0
Android ART Optimizer 0.1.0
First release for Android phones, tablets, and supported Android/Google TVs.
Install
Download android-art-optimizer-v0.1.0.apk and open it on Android. The same APK supports all form factors. On TV, transfer it with a USB drive or trusted file-transfer method and open it using a file manager.
Requires Android 11+ and modern Wireless Debugging. Android 13+ is the intended TV baseline; support is detected at runtime. See the user guide.
If you used an early debug test build, note your configured IDs, uninstall it, install this release, and pair again. Later official releases update this version in place.
Included
- Pairing through notification reply or a QR-linked page on another device.
- Installed-app selection and manual/comma-separated package entry.
speedcompilation with real phase/count progress and result verification.- Saved lists/results, version tracking, reconnect, and actionable recovery.
- TV launcher icon/banner, D-pad focus, and explicit text editing.
- Optional Advanced console with bounded output/history and timeout/cancellation.
Verified on a Samsung Android 16 tablet and a TCL Android 14 TV. TV checks included ART-state-verified compilation, quiet shell commands, timeout recovery, startup reconnect, and D-pad navigation. Android 11/12 devices and iPhone Safari specifically remain unverified.
The APK uses the permanent release certificate. The checksum verifies downloaded assets. The source archive includes tagged app source/build files and pinned ADB/pairing-library sources; it is not needed for installation.
