Eqho v0.8.10
First launch, the right speech model for every PC, and no more missing dictations.
Highlights
- No more missing dictations. Now and then a dictation typed nothing even though Eqho had understood you — on a busy desktop about 1 in 7. Before pasting, Eqho sent "key released" signals for keys that weren't pressed, and a stray Alt could make the window swallow the paste. Eqho now only releases keys that are really held down: 40 of 40 test dictations pasted.
- The right speech model for your PC. A new install picks a model that is fast on the computer it runs on: with a suitable graphics card the accurate large model, without one a small fast model. On an older 4-core laptop your words now appear about 3 seconds after you stop instead of about 14. The Models tab marks the model recommended for your PC and says where models run.
- First-time setup. A short setup helps you pick your language and microphone, shows that the microphone hears you, and asks before downloading anything. It also asks whether to turn other sounds off while you dictate (they are no longer muted unless you say yes) and lets you try dictating right away. Upgrading users don't see it; you can run it any time from About.
- The window fits your screen. On laptops with high display scaling the window could reach behind the taskbar and hide the setup's Next button. It now fits at any scaling, and no text is cut off at any window size.
- Tabs open instantly. The first visit to Models used to take about 5 seconds; tabs are now ready by the time you click.
Also new
- A plain warning when your PC is short on free memory for the chosen model, and a plain message if loading fails for lack of memory.
- A one-time tip when your model is slow on your PC, pointing to a faster one (Eqho never changes it for you).
- A failed model download can be retried with "Try again".
- The "English-only model" note under the language picker reads properly and names the model to pick.
- Tighter spacing between columns; changing the hotkey no longer flashes an alarming red.
- Eqho.exe shows its name and version under right-click → Properties → Details.
Good to know
Laptops run up to twice as slow on battery — plug in for full speed.
