HOTS Hosts 2.4

A Windows hosts file editor with built-in parental controls and Windows privacy settings: block distracting apps and sites, filter content for kids, and turn off Windows telemetry from one simple app.

What's new

  • Italian language added — the interface is now available in 8 languages
  • Stronger password storage — the startup password is now stored as a salted hash (existing passwords keep working and are upgraded the next time you change the password)
  • Minor improvements throughout the application's code

What it does

  • Parental controls — one-click blocklists for 15 categories, Cloudflare Family DNS, hosts file lock, application and VPN client blocking, DNS-over-HTTPS blocking
  • Windows privacy — 37 telemetry and tracking settings in four levels, reversible, with drift detection and restore point creation
  • Hosts file editor — table view with live search, automatic backups, diff preview, import/export, domain checker and malware scanner

Requirements

Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit). The app asks for Administrator rights.

Install

Download HOTS_Hosts_setup.exe from the assets below and run it.

Good to know

  • The installer is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC". Click More info → Run anyway. Details: CODE_SIGNING.md
  • Hosts-file blocking only affects the PC where the app is installed.
