What is schema

As an alias of tableset

  • In the world of databases (refer to Oracle, Teradata, Postgres), schema is the namespace where a collection of objects are created (tables, views, indexes etc).
  • The schema is being used as select * from schema_name.table_name;

In the world of data in general, schema is the definition of the data.

  • If we store the data in a table then the schema is the structure of the table (columns, data types, indexes etc).
  • For events or API return results, schema speaks about fields and types.
  • For files, schema is about headers, delimiters.
