Klipp 0.3.2
Klipp 0.3.2 fixes about fifty problems found while testing every part of the app by hand, with a long run of random edits on the editing core.
Fixed
Editing
- Linked picture and sound stay in sync through ripple trims, ripple removes, moves, splits, inserts and Close Gap. An edit that would pull a pair apart is refused and says why.
- Transitions follow a clip when it is cut, and go with it when it is removed. Saving and opening a project no longer drops one.
- Undo and redo give clips and transitions back in their place and order, including redo of a move on the main track.
- Clips inserted on the main track land on whole frames.
- Trims, moves, drops, freeze frames, In and Out marks, mixer changes, effect drags, speed changes, multicam edits and imported subtitles are each one named undo step.
- Fit to marked range in the Speed dialog places the clip on the marks.
- Playing backwards (J) runs the playhead backwards, silently, and the sound is back at the playhead when playback turns round. Close Gap closes the gap on linked tracks too, or says why it can't.
Playback and viewer
- The viewer goes back to the playhead's frame after skimming the timeline.
- Klipp hands memory back after a project is closed: about 860 MB held instead of 1.9 GB in a long session.
- The viewer's badges no longer cover the HDR controls, and the move box shows only on a clip in the picture.
Audio
- Fit Music to Length keeps the music's volume, fades, pan, keys, effects and role.
- With no sound model installed, a sound-only file is told apart as speech or music by a small built-in check, so ducking music under a voice-over works.
- The Audio tab's rows no longer move under the pointer, and the level meter's labels no longer overlap.
Titles and brand kits
- The fonts the built-in templates use ship with Klipp. Any other font Klipp would download now asks first.
- A brand kit's accent colour and heading font restyle its intro and outro.
- Built-in titles sit clear of the player's controls in a sequence made for a platform.
Media and analysis
- A drag from a thumbnail no longer leaves a range behind that shortens the next added clip, and an add that uses a range says so.
- Sound-only files are no longer sent to the skim or picture analysis, which failed on them.
- Hardware decoders that can't open on the machine are passed over.
- Characters split between two transcription tokens (as in Japanese) come out whole.
Export
- One export runs at a time by default, so the first file is ready sooner. Two queued exports never write one file.
- Picking a preset no longer moves the Export page's fields, and typing in a field no longer reaches the timeline.
- A vertical preset gets its own file name, and the page's warnings are shown in full.
Windows and dialogs
- Floating windows stay below the menu bar. The Relink window closes once all media is online. Translate Captions asks before downloading its model.
- Freeze Track says what it costs in disk before you use it.
Also in this release
These came in since 0.3.0 and get their full write-up in 0.4.0:
- First Cut: a talking-head rough cut from the transcript, one change at a time, each one can be taken back.
- Covers: frames for a video's cover, kept with the sequence and exported.
- Collect Project: copy a project and every file it uses to one folder.
- Clip roles: clips start with their track's role, with badges and proposals.
- Captions and titles in Thai, Lao, Khmer and Burmese, wrapped between words.
- Colour glyphs in titles (COLR, sbix).
Known issues
- Playing backwards (J) moves the playhead, but the picture stays where it was until you stop. Step backwards with the Left arrow meanwhile.
- Transcription waits for each imported file's other analysis first, so on a large import a transcript can take a few minutes to start.
- Dragging a clip from the media pool works from its name, not its thumbnail.
Fixes for these follow in the next release.
