v1.5.3 — Existing Build Tools Installer Fix

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 05 Nov 15:46

v1.5.3 — Existing Build Tools installer fix

Fixes a confirmed cause of Microsoft component setup exit code 1: Visual Studio Build Tools 2022 was already installed, but our component setup attempted a fresh installation.

  • Discover an existing Build Tools 2022 instance even when required C++ components are missing.
  • Add required components with modify, using that instance's exact installation path and channel, instead of attempting a duplicate installation.
  • Apply the corrected command selection in both the installer and the updated updater. Keep fresh installation available when no instance exists.
  • Quote paths containing spaces, preserve the existing channel (including LTSC), and reject malformed arguments.
  • Show the failed prerequisite check in setup logs and provide a clearer manual Update/Modify workaround.

If your installation previously failed

Download the new Install-Table-Tennis.exe from this release and run it again. You can keep your existing Build Tools installation and game files.

If Build Tools is outdated, open Visual Studio Installer, update Build Tools 2022, then select Modify and add Desktop development with C++, the Windows SDK, C++ Clang Compiler for Windows and C++ CMake tools for Windows. Retry the game installer afterwards.

Users whose existing build tools already work can use the built-in updater. An older installed updater still has its older component setup code, so users blocked specifically at component installation should use the new standalone installer.

Validation and scope

All 10 updater client regression tests pass, including compiled production/test .NET updaters, syntax-checked PowerShell 5.1 command planning, fresh/existing-install selection, path quoting, channel preservation, invalid argument rejection and read-only discovery. No actual Microsoft component installation or modification was performed during these tests, and the affected user's full installation has not yet been retested.

The matched game engine and gameplay code are unchanged from v1.5.2. Its ultrawide menu fix and independent picture-aspect options remain included. Experimental high-refresh work and native 1080p/4K menu work are not included; gameplay remains paced at 60 FPS.

Downloads

  • Install-Table-Tennis.exe — recommended for players; creates a local build from your own supported USA/Europe retail ISO.
  • Table-Tennis-Source-v1.5.3.zip — public project source.
  • Game-free engine and signed update-manifest assets support installation and updates. No retail ISO, XEX, menu archive, generated game code or prebuilt game executable is distributed.

Existing community and artwork credits remain in the README.

v1.5.2 — Ultrawide Menus and Picture Aspect

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 05 Nov 09:35

v1.5.2 — Ultrawide menus and picture aspect

Fixes the distorted player-selection screen reported on 32:9 displays and gives fullscreen players an explicit choice of picture aspect.

What changed

  • Correct menu proportions: legacy front-end menus, including player selection, keep their original centered 16:9 composition. Player models and the menu band are no longer independently squeezed to fit a 32:9 screen. Menus may have black side bars; gameplay can still fill your ultrawide display.
  • Independent picture-aspect setting: choose Auto / display, 16:9, 21:9 or 32:9 in the launcher or PC SETTINGS. Restart the game after changing it. Auto follows the actual game window/display; locked modes preserve proportions and add black bars when needed.
  • Resolution and aspect are separate: borderless fullscreen uses your monitor's size. The new picture-aspect setting controls the game picture inside it.
  • Matches switch to the selected aspect; pause retains the match picture, and returning to the main menu restores the legacy menu layout.
  • The launcher uses software rendering for its settings window to avoid the blank white WPF window observed during local GPU testing.

Update/install

Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe, or approve v1.5.2 in the built-in updater. Update the complete installation, including the new matched engine; copying only tabletennis.exe is insufficient. Both players should use the same release for online play.

The v1.5.1 Windows compiler-selection fix and all v1.5.0 community features are included. Experimental high-refresh work is not included: gameplay remains paced at 60 FPS.

Validation

All 76 regression tests passed, including native compiler/matched engine checks, launcher aspect-setting save/reload and isolated retail-ISO startup. Local game checks covered a 32:9 window at 150% Windows DPI, player selection, gameplay/HUD, pause, return to the main menu, locked 21:9, PC SETTINGS and Photo Mode zoom/PNG export. A physical 5120x1440 monitor and prolonged tournament/network sessions have not been retested; feedback from affected users is welcome.

Downloads

  • Install-Table-Tennis.exe — recommended for players; builds locally from your own supported USA/Europe retail ISO.
  • Table-Tennis-Source-v1.5.2.zip — public source for developers.
  • The game-free engine and signed manifest assets support installation and updates. No retail ISO, XEX, menu archive, generated game code or prebuilt game executable is distributed.

Community credits remain in the README, including ThisIsAkill and desktop icon artist Gary aka POOTERMAN :) (DeviantArt).

v1.5.1 — Windows Installer Compiler Fix

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 05 Nov 08:30

v1.5.1 — Windows installer compiler fix

The v1.5.0 installer could select an incompatible Clang from another application on PATH. A reported RetComm toolchain reached code generation successfully but failed while compiling the engine chrono headers (clock_time_conversion).

  • Check the compiler target as well as its version: the matched Windows engine requires Clang 19+ targeting the x64 MSVC ABI.
  • Skip MinGW/GNU, wrong-architecture, outdated and broken compiler candidates and keep looking for Windows LLVM or Visual Studio Clang.
  • Stop with a clear prerequisite error when no compatible compiler is available; reject incompatible Windows ABI configurations in CMake too.

Retrying a failed installation: download the updated Install-Table-Tennis.exe, rename the build folder inside the chosen game installation to build-old, and run the installer again. Keep your ISO and all other folders. If prompted, allow installation of the required Microsoft C++ components. This fix has local compiler-selection regression coverage and a successful compile of the matched engine's chrono header using Windows LLVM; the reporter's exact RetComm setup has not yet been retested.

All v1.5.0 features are retained. The matched engine is unchanged. Experimental 120/144/240 FPS gameplay is not included in this release; gameplay remains paced at 60 FPS.

Downloads

  • Install-Table-Tennis.exe — recommended for players; builds the game locally from your own supported USA/Europe retail ISO.
  • Table-Tennis-Source-v1.5.1.zip — public project source for developers.
  • Engine and signed update-manifest assets support installation and updates. No retail ISO, XEX, menu archive, generated game code or prebuilt game executable is distributed.

Windows x64 is required. The installer is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may display an unknown-publisher warning. No Windows security settings are disabled.

Thanks to the user who supplied the detailed build log. Full community feature credits remain in the README, including ThisIsAkill and icon artist Gary aka POOTERMAN :).

v1.5.0 — The Community Update

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 04 Nov 19:54

v1.5.0 — The Community Update

Photo Mode, achievements, PlayStation prompts, in-game PC settings, friend invitations and built-in release updates arrive on Windows in one major update.

Download and install

Players: download Install-Table-Tennis.exe. Open it, choose your own supported USA/Europe retail Xbox 360 Table Tennis ISO, select your installation folder and click Install. The installer handles the build components and creates a desktop shortcut. Keep the ISO available while playing.

Updating from v1.1.2 or earlier? Run the new installer with the same ISO and installation folder. Saves and existing settings are retained. This is the first public release with the built-in updater; future signed releases can be installed after you approve them in the launcher or PC SETTINGS.

The first installation downloads components and compiles locally, so allow time and several GB of free space. Windows 10/11 x64, an AVX2 CPU and a DirectX 12 GPU are required. The installer is unsigned; Windows SmartScreen may show an unknown-publisher warning. Release-manifest signatures do not replace Windows code signing.

What's new

  • Photo Mode: freeze an offline match with F9 or both stick clicks, move a free camera, change camera height and movement speed, and zoom from 0.5× to 5× using the D-pad, mouse wheel or Page Up/Down. Save clean PNG screenshots without the help overlay, including 4K/ultrawide captures. Controller and keyboard/mouse controls are supported.
  • Achievements: local tracking for all 29 achievements, styled unlock popups, optional sounds and a full achievement list under EXTRAS > ACHIEVEMENTS, F7 or hold View/Back.
  • Xbox and PlayStation prompts: automatic controller detection or a manual choice, including additional menu, dialog, HUD, training, trigger and shoulder-button artwork. Custom PC menus and Photo Mode use the selected symbols too.
  • In-game PC SETTINGS: available from main-menu and pause-menu OPTIONS. Change fullscreen, the timing window, button prompts and achievement sound immediately; resolution, anti-aliasing and filtering are clearly marked when a restart is needed.
  • Friend invitations — experimental: Host & copy invitation starts your private relay in the background; your friend pastes the invitation and selects Join invitation. Includes private rooms, player names, release/engine compatibility checks and a UDP connection test. Independently compiled copies of the same release can connect. No central public server or Xbox LIVE account is required. ONLINE / SYSTEM LINK are enabled only when you opt in.
  • Optional UPnP — experimental and OFF by default: explicit host permission is required. Requests short, verified, renewable port leases, refuses permanent rules and attempts removal when hosting ends. Creation, renewal, removal and expiry were checked on the maintainer's router. Router/CGNAT limitations still apply; LAN/shared VPN and manual port forwarding are alternatives. Windows firewall/security settings are not changed.
  • Approved release updates: background notifications, manual checks, signed metadata and checksum verification, local rebuilding from your ISO, backups and interrupted-update recovery. Nothing installs without your approval; startup checks can be disabled.
  • PC polish: compact square-cornered panels, subtle transparency, centered button lettering and action labels, a slimmer selection highlight, proper launcher scrollbar spacing and automatic mouse-cursor hiding after two seconds of inactivity.

Also included

  • Up to 4K output, increased internal 3D rendering scale and 21:9 ultrawide camera support with correctly proportioned menus and score HUD.
  • FXAA / FXAA Extreme, FSR, CAS and bilinear filtering options.
  • The improved 60 FPS frame scheduler, late-frame recovery and a separate F10 timing/graph window that avoids keeping the in-game overlay repainting. 120/144/240 FPS gameplay is not unlocked; those retained selections are paced at 60 to preserve game speed.
  • Immediate startup-intro dismissal, a smooth loading transition, visible first-run save prompts and QUIT TO DESKTOP as the final main-menu entry.

Multiplayer scope

Two-PC private-match testing is user-confirmed working, and the release passes 72 automated checks including native networking, ISO startup, updater integrity/recovery and screenshot output. Internet/NAT combinations need broader testing. Spectating and reconnect paths are ported but not fully validated. Original Xbox LIVE, ranked services and leaderboards are unavailable. Photo Mode is disabled during network sessions.

Share invitations with trusted friends: multiplayer traffic is unencrypted. The host relay has room/client limits, return-path checks and traffic bounds, but these are not a guarantee against hostile peers or faulty router firmware. See the repository's online and security review reports.

Credits and public downloads

Huge thanks to ThisIsAkill and Table-Tennis-Linux for the portable achievements, controller prompts, networking and Photo Mode work adapted for Windows. Upstream license notices are retained. Built with ReXGlue SDK v0.10.0. Desktop icon artwork: Gary aka POOTERMAN :) — DeviantArt.

Public downloads contain the project-authored installer/source, the matched game-free engine, signed update metadata and checksums. No ISO, retail assets, generated game code or prebuilt game executable is distributed. You must supply your own supported disc image.

Table-Tennis-Source-v1.5.0.zip is for developers/manual builds. The engine ZIP and signed metadata are used by installation/updates; players should start with the installer.

v1.1.2 - Late-frame recovery fix

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 02 Nov 21:49

Late-frame recovery fix

Overdue frames are now submitted immediately and the next deadline is based on that time. This avoids adding a full frame of waiting after a long stall or producing short catch-up frames afterward.

This improves recovery after a stall. It does not eliminate the original causes of frame-time spikes, guarantee less overall stutter, or unlock higher frame rates. Gameplay remains paced at 60 FPS.

Experimental background telemetry was excluded because testing did not show a consistent benefit. All ultrawide presets, proportional menus/score HUD, intro skipping and the final QUIT TO DESKTOP menu item are retained.

Install or update

Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe and select your supported retail USA/Europe Xbox 360 ISO. Existing users: close the game and choose the same installation folder and ISO to rebuild while retaining saves. Start from your desktop shortcut or dist/tabletennis_launcher.exe.

The ZIP is the manual source/setup alternative. No game executable, generated game code or game assets are distributed; game-derived files are created locally. The ISO is unchanged.

Validation and credits

All 12 checks passed for the production game change, including compiled deadline/geometry regressions and direct/saved-ISO startup. All 23 native edits verified unchanged. The installer embeds exactly 44 reviewed public source/license files.

Private runtime measurements confirmed the changed recovery behavior but did not establish reduced overall stutter. Other PCs/VRR modes and clean Windows installations need broader testing.

v1.1.1 - QUIT TO DESKTOP menu polish

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 02 Nov 20:08

Small menu polish update to v1.1.0: the final main-menu item now reads QUIT TO DESKTOP, in uppercase and below EXTRAS. Its position and label were checked in the running game; all ultrawide and other v1.1.0 improvements are retained.

Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe and run it with your supported retail USA/Europe ISO. Existing users can select the same installation folder and ISO to rebuild while retaining saves. The ZIP is the manual source/setup alternative. No game executable, generated game code or game assets are included; the ISO stays unchanged.

Nine routine checks passed. The verified retail menu patch was reproduced locally and its repeat application verified. The unchanged game executable retains the 12-check validation from v1.1.0.

v1.1.0 - Ultrawide UI and Quit to desktop

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 02 Nov 20:06

Ultrawide UI and Quit to desktop

  • New launcher presets: 2560x1080, 3440x1440 and 3840x1600.
  • Wider 3D camera view; menus and score HUD retain normal proportions in a centered 16:9 safe area. Off-stage artwork is clipped.
  • Quit to desktop is the final main-menu item. Xbox Live remains unavailable.
  • Retains intro skipping, smooth loading text, offline profile fixes, improved 60 FPS pacing, F10 timing graph and optional desktop shortcut.

The original scaled render target is retained. This corrects aspect/projection rather than adding a native ultrawide framebuffer. Gameplay remains paced at 60 FPS, including higher experimental cap selections.

Install or update

Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe, run it and select your supported retail USA/Europe Xbox 360 ISO. Setup builds your local game and can prepare the development components. Launch from the optional desktop shortcut or dist/tabletennis_launcher.exe. Select Ultrawide 21:9 for a wide display.

Existing users: close the game and run this installer into your existing installation folder using the same ISO. Keep your ISO and saves. Replacing only the launcher is insufficient: the locally built game and menu archive also change.

The ZIP provides the manual source/setup alternative. No game executable, generated game code or game assets are distributed. Game-derived files are produced locally; your ISO is unchanged.

Validation and credits

All 12 checks passed, including compiled geometry/pacing tests and direct/saved-ISO startup. Local Exhibition testing checked menus and score HUD at the 2560x1080 ratio. The 3440x1440 ratio and menu exit were also exercised in a scaled window. Native ultrawide monitor output and clean-machine prerequisite installation need broader user testing.

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.7 - 60 FPS Frame Pacing Preview

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 02 Nov 19:01

Improved 60 FPS pacing, integrating malinkicat's PR #6.

Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe, select your own supported retail Xbox 360 ISO and let it build locally. Existing users: select the same installation folder to rebuild while retaining saves and settings.

  • One high-resolution limiter before the guest D3D Swap; late-loaded GPU VSync settings now apply.
  • F10 opens a separate FPS/timing window with a graph. Optional --frame_log=true writes dist/frametimes.csv.
  • Command-line settings retain precedence. Installer log now reports the correct version.
  • All 11 local checks and the 40-file source allowlist audit passed. The source-package build and installer payload were verified locally with an existing SDK/compiler.

A local 1280x720 comparison found 99.9% of submission intervals within 0.5 ms of the 16.67 ms target, versus 56.4% with v1.0.6. These are host submission/Present-call measurements, not physical scanout. Occasional longer intervals remain; other GPUs/fullscreen/VRR need confirmation.

All requested FPS selections currently run at 60 to preserve game speed. This does not unlock 120/144/240 FPS or add ultrawide support. This remains an installer preview; automatic prerequisite installation on a completely clean Windows machine is not fully verified.

The ZIP is the developer source package, not a prebuilt game. Public assets contain authored tools/source and credited artwork only; the ISO and locally generated game stay on the user's PC.

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.6 — Frame Pacing & Metrics Preview

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 02 Nov 16:56

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.6 — Frame Pacing & Honest Metrics Preview

Use 60 FPS / VSync for normal play. True 120/144/240 FPS gameplay is not unlocked by this release.

This update addresses two avoidable presentation delays and the misleading FPS counter behind issue #8. It is not a verified cure for every user's stutter report. The issue remains open for validation.

What changed

  • Removed the extra sleep/spin limiter from UI rendering; new game output no longer waits for our independent UI frame cap.
  • A hidden FPS/startup dialog now detaches after startup so the SDK can use its immediate guest-output presentation path. F10 brings the counter back normally.
  • One producer-side limiter now uses fixed deadlines before VdSwap, avoiding cumulative sleep drift and catch-up bursts after stalls.
  • F10 shows game submissions/s and mean/p95/max intervals, with UI redraw FPS labeled separately. Submission timings are not GPU render time, unique completed-image counts or simulation tick counts.
  • Launcher defaults to 60 FPS / VSync. Retained higher caps/no-cap settings are labeled experimental and do not promise smoother high-FPS gameplay. Existing saved graphics selections remain intact; select the recommended mode explicitly after updating.
  • Explicit command-line framerate overrides saved settings.

What the measurements show

Before this change, a visually confirmed Exhibition match submitted roughly 60 frames/s while the old F10 display showed around 140 FPS at a 144 cap. The old number counted UI redraws, not new game submissions.

Local settled windows in the updated 60 mode measured about 60.0 submissions/s, mean 16.66–16.67 ms and p95 around 17.4–17.9 ms, with occasional outliers. Intro, menu and an Exhibition match were checked. These are submission observations on the development PC, not a high-speed display-capture benchmark or a verified result on the reporter's RTX 5070.

The SDK's no-VSync mode actually drives its VBlank worker near 1000 Hz even though the reported video mode is 60 Hz; earlier claims that VBlank always remained 60 Hz were incorrect. Changing this alone did not unlock game motion. Further game-specific timing work is needed for actual 120/144 FPS gameplay.

Install or update

  1. Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe below.
  2. Select your supported retail USA/Europe ISO and the same installation folder used previously. Run Install / Recheck and wait for the rebuild.
  3. Click Play and select 60 FPS / VSync (recommended) in the launcher. Keep your ISO available during play.
  4. Toggle F10 to compare game submissions and interval spikes. If reporting stutter, attach the new dist\logs log and describe whether the counter was visible.

Existing saves/settings are retained. All previous ISO startup, first-run save-dialog, offline-menu, intro-skip, higher-resolution, filter and desktop-icon improvements remain included. Icon artwork: Gary aka POOTERMAN :) — DeviantArt.

Validation and limits

Deterministic native tests cover deadline overshoot, long stalls, cap changes, uncapped mode and submission statistics. ISO runtime tests include launch arguments overriding saved settings. A normal production rebuild and runtime checks are performed separately from private diagnostic controller replay; replay controls and test profiles are not distributed.

This remains an unsigned preview. First-time installation of Microsoft components and the previously blocked first SDK download remain unverified on a completely clean Windows PC. It does not change security settings. The public installer contains reviewed project source, SDK adaptations, patch instructions and the credited icon, not a prebuilt game, ISO, XEX, retail menu archive or generated game functions. Game output is built locally from your own ISO; this is not a legal guarantee.

Players need only the installer. The optional Table-Tennis-Local-Build-v1.0.6.zip is for developers. SHA256SUMS.txt verifies both downloads.

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.5 — Desktop Icon

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 19 Oct 11:59

FPS correction: v1.0.6 timing/metrics preview. The old F10 counter measured UI redraws, not game submissions. Earlier 120/144/240 FPS claims below are not verified gameplay performance. Use 60 FPS/VSync; true higher-FPS motion remains unresolved. v1.0.6 removes redundant UI waits and reports submission intervals separately. Existing graphics, ISO startup, save-dialog and icon improvements are retained.

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.5 — Desktop Icon

The installer now creates a desktop shortcut with a custom transparent Table Tennis icon. Double-click Table Tennis on your desktop to open the settings launcher and start playing. The launcher executable also embeds the icon.

Icon artwork by Gary aka POOTERMAN :) — POOTERMAN on DeviantArt. Thank you! The supplied image was converted to a Windows icon at 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixels. The artwork is credited separately and is not covered by the project's MIT license; installed credits are included.

Install or update

  1. Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe below.
  2. Choose your own supported USA/Europe retail Table Tennis ISO and an installation folder. For an existing installation, select the same folder to retain saves/settings and update the launcher and shortcut.
  3. Allow the required components, click Install / Recheck, then Play. A desktop shortcut is created when Windows permits it.

The ISO remains necessary during play. This includes the v1.0.3 ISO startup fix and v1.0.4 first-run save-dialog fix. On first launch, answer any visible Saved Game question: A creates a save; B continues without saving.

The existing up-to-4K output, increased internal rendering at 1440p/4K, 60/120/144/240 FPS targets and uncapped mode, FSR/CAS/FXAA options, gamepad intro skip and offline menu fixes remain available. Achieved FPS depends on hardware and scene.

Validation

  • Verified all seven icon sizes and transparency; compiled the launcher with the icon and loaded its embedded icon through Windows.
  • Invoked the actual compiled installer's shortcut routine in a separate test folder and read back the shortcut target, working directory and icon location.
  • Nine automated synthetic tests passed; the opt-in game runtime test was skipped for this icon-only update. No gameplay code changed.
  • Audited the 34-file source/artwork payload and verified it before embedding in the installer.

This remains an unsigned preview. First-time Microsoft component installation and the previously blocked SDK-download path remain unverified on a completely clean Windows PC.

The EXE is our installer, not a prebuilt game. Its payload contains source, patch instructions and the credited desktop icon; no ISO, XEX, retail menu archive or generated game functions. The local game build is prepared from your own supported ISO. Local generation is not a legal guarantee.

The optional Table-Tennis-Local-Build-v1.0.5.zip is for developers. Players only need the installer. SHA256SUMS.txt verifies both downloads.
