@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 19 Oct 11:59

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.5 — Desktop Icon

The installer now creates a desktop shortcut with a custom transparent Table Tennis icon. Double-click Table Tennis on your desktop to open the settings launcher and start playing. The launcher executable also embeds the icon.

Icon artwork by Gary aka POOTERMAN :) — POOTERMAN on DeviantArt. Thank you! The supplied image was converted to a Windows icon at 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixels. The artwork is credited separately and is not covered by the project's MIT license; installed credits are included.

Install or update

  1. Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe below.
  2. Choose your own supported USA/Europe retail Table Tennis ISO and an installation folder. For an existing installation, select the same folder to retain saves/settings and update the launcher and shortcut.
  3. Allow the required components, click Install / Recheck, then Play. A desktop shortcut is created when Windows permits it.

The ISO remains necessary during play. This includes the v1.0.3 ISO startup fix and v1.0.4 first-run save-dialog fix. On first launch, answer any visible Saved Game question: A creates a save; B continues without saving.

The existing up-to-4K output, increased internal rendering at 1440p/4K, 60/120/144/240 FPS targets and uncapped mode, FSR/CAS/FXAA options, gamepad intro skip and offline menu fixes remain available. Achieved FPS depends on hardware and scene.

Validation

  • Verified all seven icon sizes and transparency; compiled the launcher with the icon and loaded its embedded icon through Windows.
  • Invoked the actual compiled installer's shortcut routine in a separate test folder and read back the shortcut target, working directory and icon location.
  • Nine automated synthetic tests passed; the opt-in game runtime test was skipped for this icon-only update. No gameplay code changed.
  • Audited the 34-file source/artwork payload and verified it before embedding in the installer.

This remains an unsigned preview. First-time Microsoft component installation and the previously blocked SDK-download path remain unverified on a completely clean Windows PC.

The EXE is our installer, not a prebuilt game. Its payload contains source, patch instructions and the credited desktop icon; no ISO, XEX, retail menu archive or generated game functions. The local game build is prepared from your own supported ISO. Local generation is not a legal guarantee.

The optional Table-Tennis-Local-Build-v1.0.5.zip is for developers. Players only need the installer. SHA256SUMS.txt verifies both downloads.

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.4 — First-Run Loading Fix

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 18 Oct 21:20

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.4 — First-Run Loading Fix

Fix: music plays, but Loading Main Menu never ends

On a first launch with no saved game, the game asks whether to create one. The intro-skip loading overlay covered that question and automatic Start input blocked the A/B choices, making the game appear to load forever. This could also happen after letting the intro play and pressing Start at the title screen.

This release makes startup message dialogs visible and interactive. Automatic Start input pauses while a choice is needed. Release the skip button, then use the normal on-screen choices. The game does not silently create a save or choose to play without saving.

Already installed? Repair in the same folder

  1. Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe from this release and open it.
  2. Select your own supported retail Table Tennis ISO and the same installation folder you used before (default %LOCALAPPDATA%\TableTennisPC).
  3. Click Install / Recheck, wait for the rebuild, then click Play.
  4. At Saved Game / No saved game data found, choose A to create a saved game or B to continue without saving. Follow any further confirmation on screen.

Existing saves and graphics settings are retained. No deletion or manual component reinstallation is required. Keep the ISO available during play and start the game through tabletennis_launcher.exe.

This also includes the v1.0.3 fix for an existing ISO being rejected with --game_data_root does not exist.

Validation

Reproduced the endless overlay using an isolated profile with no save, then visually checked the corrected dialog and main menu. Private input replay covered early intro skip, create-save/confirmation, continue without saving, restart with the new save, and letting the full intro play before pressing Start. A held confirmation did not select Tournament, and D-pad navigation worked afterward. No new physical-controller test was performed.

The release's normal source was rebuilt without replay instrumentation. All nine synthetic tests and the opt-in ISO runtime regression passed. Full gameplay progress save/load was not revalidated.

PC recompilation highlights

The Xbox 360 classic, recompiled to native Windows x64 with DirectX 12, plus settings and convenience improvements for PC players:

  • Up to 4K / Ultra HD: choose 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K output. The 1440p and 4K presets raise internal 3D rendering to 2× and 3× per axis respectively.
  • High-refresh options: choose 60, 120, 144 or 240 FPS targets, or Unlocked for uncapped presentation. The high-refresh modes enable the variable-refresh presentation path for compatible setups.
  • Image filters and smoother edges: optional AMD FidelityFX FSR, CAS sharpening, FXAA and FXAA Extreme, with Bilinear and AA Off options too.
  • Your display, your settings: fullscreen/windowed mode and a graphical launcher that remembers resolution, framerate and filter choices.
  • Useful PC shortcuts: toggle the live FPS/frame-time overlay with F10, and exit to Windows with Escape.
  • Gamepad-friendly startup: controller detection before the intro; press a gamepad button to stop the movie immediately and continue to the menu after loading.
  • A working offline main menu: Xbox Live removed, correct Options/Extras navigation, and a large antialiased loading message during the transition.

Actual FPS depends on hardware, scene and settings. The 1080p preset uses 1× internal rendering with the selected presentation filter. See the full PC enhancements and resolution table.

Downloads and preview status

Players only need Install-Table-Tennis.exe. The optional Table-Tennis-Local-Build-v1.0.4.zip is source for developers. SHA256SUMS.txt verifies both downloads.

This remains an unsigned preview. First-time Microsoft component installation and the previously blocked SDK-download path remain unverified on a completely clean Windows PC. The installer does not change Windows security settings.

The public EXE is our own installer, not the game. It embeds exactly 32 reviewed source files, with no ISO, retail menu archive, XEX, generated game functions, prebuilt game executable, replay instrumentation or test saves. Game material is prepared locally from your own supported USA/Europe retail ISO. Local generation is not a legal guarantee.

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.3 — ISO Startup Fix

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 18 Oct 19:12

First-run loading fix: Use the v1.0.4 installer. If music plays behind an endless LOADING MAIN MENU..., this version may be hiding the first-run save question. Rebuild with v1.0.4 in the same installation folder, then choose A/create save or B/continue without saving on the visible Saved Game screen. This update also includes the ISO startup fix.

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.3 — ISO Startup Fix

Fix for installed game failing to start

An existing ISO could be rejected with --game_data_root does not exist, even after a successful installation. The stock ReXGlue v0.10.0 application expects a directory. The previous developer test used a locally modified SDK application source, which hid this missing integration.

This release includes the BSD-licensed ISO application adapter in the source payload and compiles it instead of the directory-only SDK source. Your ISO is mounted read-only before loading the game. The SDK installation itself is not modified.

Already installed? Repair in the same folder

  1. Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe from this release and open it.
  2. Choose your supported retail Table Tennis ISO and the same folder used for the existing installation (default %LOCALAPPDATA%\TableTennisPC).
  3. Click Install / Recheck and wait for the rebuild to finish, then click Play.

You do not need to delete your installation or manually install the components again. Existing graphics settings are retained. Keep the ISO available after installation and use tabletennis_launcher.exe to start the game.

Additional fixes: explicit ISO launch arguments, saved paths containing =, uppercase .ISO filenames, and clearer guidance when a disc really is missing.

For players

Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe below. You do not need the source ZIP or to install Python and compilers manually.

  1. Open the installer and choose your own supported retail Table Tennis ISO.
  2. Allow the required components and click Install. Approve the Windows administrator prompt if Microsoft components need to be installed.
  3. Wait for Ready to play, then click Play. A desktop shortcut is created when Windows permits it.

First setup requires internet, several GB of free space, and time to download/build components. The ISO stays read-only and remains necessary during play. This supports the unmodified USA/Europe Xbox 360 retail release, Title ID 545407DF.

Validation and preview status

  • Reproduced the original error using the SDK's unmodified directory-only application source and an existing supported ISO.
  • Fixed build mounted the same ISO and ran the intro for 23 seconds.
  • Runtime regression passed with the ISO outside the installation folder, through both explicit arguments and saved settings, launched from a different working directory.
  • All nine synthetic tests plus the opt-in runtime regression passed.
  • The embedded installer payload completed a repair rebuild (94 C++ steps plus launcher compilation) using cached components and a supplied SDK. The rebuilt game's actual launcher also passed the saved = path and uppercase .ISO startup check. The GUI Install button was not exercised in this repair test.

First-time Microsoft component installation and the previously blocked SDK-download path remain unverified on a clean Windows PC. This remains a preview. The installer is not code-signed and does not change Windows security settings.

The public EXE is our installer, not the game. It contains exactly 32 reviewed source files, including the BSD-licensed application adapter. No ISO, retail archive, XEX, generated game functions or prebuilt game executable is distributed. Game material is prepared locally from your own supported USA/Europe retail ISO. Local generation is not a legal guarantee.

Table-Tennis-Local-Build-v1.0.3.zip is optional source for developers. Players only need the installer. SHA256SUMS.txt verifies both downloads.

Startup fix available: Download the v1.0.3 installer. If this version reports --game_data_root does not exist for an existing ISO, use v1.0.3 and rebuild in the same installation folder. The earlier test SDK already had local ISO support, which was missing from this release.

Why a preview?

The portable Python download/checksum and full local build backend passed using existing compiler tools and a supplied ReXGlue SDK. The GUI rendered and refused to start without a selected ISO. All nine automated tests passed.

Automatic installation of missing Microsoft components still needs testing on a clean Windows PC. The separate first-time ReXGlue SDK download was previously blocked by Windows security on the development PC and remains unverified end to end. The installer stops if a component is blocked; it does not change security settings. The project-authored installer is not code-signed.

New in this installer preview

  • One project-authored graphical installer with the reviewed source payload embedded; no manual source extraction needed.
  • Automatic, checksum-verified portable Python, isolated under the install folder.
  • Automatic setup of required Microsoft C++/Windows SDK/CMake/Ninja/Clang components through Microsoft's signed installer, with user consent and normal Windows permission prompts.
  • Disc validation before attempting large compiler installations.
  • Installation status, optional detailed log, restart guidance, retry/repair, Play button and desktop shortcut.
  • Existing graphics settings preserved; repair updates the selected ISO path.
  • Existing offline menu, immediate gamepad intro skip and antialiased loading-text fixes retained.

The public EXE is our installer, not the game. It embeds exactly 31 allowlisted source files. It contains no retail archive, XEX, ISO, generated game functions or prebuilt game executable. Those are created locally from your own ISO. Local generation is a distribution change, not a legal guarantee.

Table-Tennis-Local-Build-v1.0.2.zip is optional source for developers. SHA256SUMS.txt verifies both downloads.

Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.1 — Local Build Tools

Choose a tag to compare

@davidptrssvea davidptrssvea released this 18 Oct 11:15

Startup fix available: Download the v1.0.3 installer. If this version reports --game_data_root does not exist for an existing ISO, use v1.0.3 and rebuild in the same installation folder. The earlier test SDK already had local ISO support, which was missing from this release.

Want the easier graphical installer? Try the v1.0.2 Easy Installer Preview: download Install-Table-Tennis.exe, choose your ISO, and click Install. The instructions below describe the older manual/developer workflow.

v1.0.1 — local ISO build tools

This release changes distribution to local build tools. No game executable, XEX, retail menu archive, ISO or generated game functions are included.

Install

  1. Download Table-Tennis-Local-Build-v1.0.1.zip and extract the complete folder.
  2. Install 64-bit Python 3.10+, Visual Studio 2022 C++ Build Tools with Windows SDK/CMake/Ninja, and LLVM Clang 19+ as described in README.md.
  3. Run setup.cmd, choose your own supported retail USA/Europe Xbox 360 ISO, and wait for the local compilation.
  4. Start dist\tabletennis_launcher.exe after setup completes.

The setup extracts the required files from your ISO without modifying it, generates and patches the code, and builds the game locally. It obtains ReXGlue SDK v0.10.0 from the official release and checks a pinned SHA-256, or accepts an installed SDK via setup.ps1 -SdkPath PATH -NoDownload. The first build requires compiler tools, time and several GB of disk space.

The automatic SDK download was blocked by Windows security on the development PC and remains unverified end to end. The installed-SDK build path passed. Setup does not change security settings.

Local game fixes

  • Xbox Live removed from the main menu to avoid the unavailable online screen; Options and Extras retain their correct indexes.
  • A gamepad button stops the startup intro immediately and continues to the menu after loading, without another Start press.
  • Black loading transition with a large, centered, antialiased LOADING MAIN MENU... message.
  • The skip press is consumed so it cannot accidentally select a menu item.

Verification

  • Full clean build from the retail ISO passed, including 95 C++ build steps and C# launcher compilation.
  • Seven synthetic-input tests passed.
  • Locally created menu archive matches the preceding verified build; all 16,971 generated function bodies match its working integration.
  • Public source allowlist and ZIP contents checked. The released package has 28 files, with no local game output.

Keep locally generated dist, private_work and project/generated folders private. Existing save data can be retained; save/load was not revalidated for this update.

Earlier claims that the v1.0.0 package contained no game resources were inaccurate. The new workflow does not require that package. Project-authored code and permitted third-party notices are included; original game rights remain with their owners. Local generation is a distribution change, not a legal guarantee.

SHA256SUMS.txt verifies the source ZIP download.
