RehearsalHQ v1.2.1
RehearsalHQ v1.2.1 is a maintenance release that expands Docker image distribution by adding Docker Hub publishing alongside the existing GitHub Container Registry (GHCR).
This update provides an additional option for downloading and deploying RehearsalHQ Docker images.
What's New
Docker Hub Support
RehearsalHQ Docker images are now published to Docker Hub in addition to GHCR.
- Dual Registry Publishing: Release images are published to both Docker Hub and GitHub Container Registry.
- Consistent Versioning: Both registries use the same release version tags.
- Automated Publishing: GitHub Actions handles publishing to both registries when a new version tag is pushed.
- CI Integration: Existing automated checks must pass before images are published.
- More Deployment Options: Users can choose their preferred container registry when deploying RehearsalHQ.
Improvements
- Updated the GitHub Actions publishing workflow to support Docker Hub authentication.
- Added support for Docker Hub repository credentials through GitHub Actions secrets.
- Extended Docker image metadata and tagging to include both registries.
- Preserved the existing GHCR publishing workflow.
Deployment Notes
No application configuration changes are required for existing installations.
- Existing GHCR-based deployments can continue using their current image references.
- Docker Hub is now available as an alternative image source.
- Application functionality, database schemas, and media storage remain unchanged.

RehearsalHQ v1.2.0
RehearsalHQ v1.2.0 introduces Multi-Band Support, allowing multiple bands to operate independently within a single application instance.
This release also introduces Super Admin management, a redesigned permission hierarchy, secure account invitations, self-service password recovery, and centralized security and email settings.
With isolated band workspaces and improved account administration, RehearsalHQ is now better equipped to support multiple bands while keeping their music, members, schedules, and settings separate.
What's New
Multi-Band Support
RehearsalHQ now supports multiple independent bands within a single installation.
- Independent Band Workspaces: Each band maintains its own songs, recordings, rehearsals, settings, notifications, and memberships.
- Band Switching: Members belonging to multiple bands can switch directly from the account menu.
- Band-Specific Permissions: Users can have different roles in different bands.
- Isolated Media Storage: Audio files are organized into separate band directories.
- Persistent Sessions: The application remembers your active band between sessions.
- Audio Player Integration: Switching bands automatically resets the global audio player to prevent playback across workspaces.
- Automatic Migration: Existing installations are automatically migrated into their original band, preserving existing content and media files.
Super Admin Management
Introducing the new Super Admin role for application-wide administration.
Super Admins can:
- Create and manage band instances.
- Grant or remove Super Admin privileges.
- Manage users across all bands.
- Configure global authentication and security policies.
- Manage application-wide SMTP and email settings.
- Perform all standard Band Admin operations.
Additional safeguards:
- Promoting a user to Super Admin requires explicit confirmation.
- Super Admins automatically receive Band Admin access to every existing and future band.
- Removing Super Admin privileges preserves existing band memberships.
- Band Admins cannot modify protected Super Admin accounts.
Improved Roles & Permissions
RehearsalHQ now uses four clearly defined roles:
- Super Admin: Full application-wide administration.
- Band Admin: Manages an individual band's members, recordings, rehearsals, and settings.
- Band Member: Standard band participation and content management.
- Band Guest: Limited access based on existing guest permissions.
Additional improvements include:
- Updated Role Permissions Breakdown.
- Clearer role labels throughout the application.
- Improved account protection and administrator hierarchy.
- Server-side enforcement of role restrictions.
- Safeguards against removing the last active administrator.
Improved Member Invitations
Adding members to a band is now easier and more secure.
New Users
- Administrators can invite new members directly from User Management.
- When email is enabled, members receive a secure invitation link.
- Invited members choose their own password during account setup.
- Invitation links expire after 7 days.
- Resending an invitation invalidates the previous link.
- Accounts remain marked as Invited until setup is complete.
Existing Users
- Add existing RehearsalHQ users to additional bands without creating duplicate accounts.
- Existing credentials and profile information are preserved.
- Assign a different role for each band.
- Invitation emails explain how to access the additional band.
When SMTP is disabled, administrators can continue creating accounts with an initial password.
Password Recovery & Account Security
Introduced secure, self-service password recovery.
- Forgot Password: Members can request password resets directly from the login screen when SMTP is enabled.
- Secure Reset Links: One-time password reset links expire after 30 minutes.
- Session Protection: Successful password resets revoke existing sessions and remembered devices.
- Account Privacy: Password recovery does not reveal whether an email address is registered.
- Secure Tokens: Setup and reset tokens are stored as hashes and excluded from email logs.
Administrator Password Resets
- With SMTP enabled, administrators can send secure password reset links.
- With SMTP disabled, administrators can assign temporary passwords.
- Invited users continue through the invitation workflow until their account is activated.
Centralized Authentication Management
Authentication and security policies are now managed globally by Super Admins.
- Application-wide session timeout settings.
- Consistent password requirements across every band.
- Global login lockout policies.
- Centralized two-factor authentication enforcement.
- Protected access to authentication management settings.
Existing authentication configurations migrate automatically and remain consistent when switching bands.
Centralized Email Settings
SMTP configuration is now shared across the entire RehearsalHQ installation.
- One global email configuration serves all bands.
- Only Super Admins can access SMTP settings and email administration.
- Email testing, notification resending, and email log management are restricted to Super Admins.
- Existing SMTP configurations migrate automatically.
- Band Admins cannot access SMTP credentials or application-wide email logs.
Band-specific notifications continue to operate independently within their respective workspaces.
User Management Improvements
User Management now provides clearer workflows and more granular administrative control.
- Separate options for adding new users and existing accounts.
- Updated role selectors and permission descriptions.
- Protected account indicators for restricted users.
- Improved invitation status and delivery feedback.
- Resend Invite disappears after a member's first successful login.
- Band Admins can manage Members and Guests, including role changes, password resets, 2FA resets, and removal from their band.
- Super Admins retain application-wide account management capabilities.
Fixes & Improvements
- Migrated existing installations and media files to the new multi-band structure.
- Improved band-specific database access and authorization.
- Added stronger protection against unauthorized cross-band access.
- Updated account management safeguards and administrator permissions.
- Improved invitation and password reset token security.
- Added automatic session and trusted-device revocation after password resets.
- Standardized role names across navigation, profiles, emails, and documentation.
- Updated database migrations through schema version 10.
- Updated the README with multi-band configuration, administration, invitations, and password recovery instructions.
Important Upgrade Notes
Existing installations are automatically migrated to the new multi-band architecture.
- Your existing band, users, songs, rehearsals, and media files are preserved during migration.
- The first active Admin is automatically promoted to Super Admin.
- Existing media files are reorganized into band-specific directories.
- Existing SMTP and authentication settings are migrated to global configuration.
- Database schema migrations are applied automatically.
Recommendation: Back up your database and media directory before upgrading, particularly because this release changes database structures and media storage paths.
