Skill Manager 0.10.0 Public Preview
Skill Manager 0.10.0 Public Preview
This feature preview installs sources that ship one skill name from several
directories, installs a skill under another name when another source already
owns its name, and adds optional TypeSafe recommendations to the Skill Advisor
with your own API key. It supersedes v0.9.0 for Apple Silicon Macs running
macOS 13 or newer.

Duplicate skill names inside one source. A source that ships the same
skill name from several directories no longer fails to install. Identical
copies install from one canonical copy, and the output names it. Copies with
differing content are never guessed: the CLI lists every copy as a pasteable
--skill <name>=<path>form, and the desktop install matrix shows a copy
picker.skill-manager install https://github.com/example/agent-skills --tool codex \ --skill example-skill=plugin/skills/example-skill
-
Install a skill under another name. When another installed source already
owns a skill's name, the blocked install now suggests an install name you can
paste with--as. In the desktop install dialog, the row asks for an install
name prefilled with the suggestion and is never preselected.skill-manager install https://github.com/example/tools --tool claude \ --as 'alpha=alpha-example'The second skill is an independent entry that you toggle, favorite, or add to
a Skill Set by its install name. Reinstall, update, andextendkeep it.
SKILL.mdis never edited, so Claude Code shows/alpha-examplewhile Codex
and Grok may list both installs under the same label. -
Optional TypeSafe recommendations for the Skill Advisor. Local ranked
search remains the default and sends nothing off the machine. Selecting
TypeSafe on the new desktop Advisor screen, or with
skill-manager advisor provider use typesafe, together with your own
TypeSafe API key from the macOS keychain orTYPESAFE_API_KEY, lets
skill-manager advisor recommendsend the task brief plus skill names and
descriptions to TypeSafe for a model-ranked selection. A stored key alone
never enables cloud use. See PRIVACY.md for the data flow. -
Strict dry-runs no longer let
git statusrewrite a managed checkout's
.git/index.
Upgrade Note
state.json is now written as manifest version 3 to record install names.
Skill Manager 0.9.0 and earlier refuse a version 3 file. To go back to an
older release, restore a pre-upgrade copy of state.json from
~/.skill-manager/backups/.

- This is a public preview, not a stable release.
- Only Apple Silicon macOS 13 or newer is supported by these binaries.
- There is no Developer ID signature, notarization, universal binary, DMG,
auto-update, telemetry, SBOM, or build provenance attestation. - Skill Manager uses fixed provider paths under the current user's home
directory. Custom Claude, Codex, Muse, or Grok skill roots,GROK_HOME,
project-level skill directories, and provider plugin skills are out of scope. - An install name is chosen once per source. To change it, uninstall the source
and install it again with a different--as. Claudesettings.jsonskill
overrides are keyed by folder name and do not follow an install name. - Codex and Grok read the
nameinsideSKILL.md, so two installs of one skill
may show the same label there. Muse behavior with install names is
unverified. - TypeSafe recommendations need network access and a user-owned key; failures
fall back to local candidates. Ad-hoc-signed builds may prompt for keychain
access after each update. - New skills are never installed automatically, and there is no way to dismiss
one you do not want. A skill stops being reported only after it is installed. - Install as OFF applies to the whole selection;
--offnever turns an already
installed skill OFF. - Repair clears worktree changes only. A checkout with local commits, a detached
HEAD, a changed origin, or managed link drift is diagnosed but not resolved. - Muse and Grok have no provider diagnostic, so their context-budget figures
are always filesystem estimates against an assumed context window. - Experimental skills.sh Discover code is not exposed in this build.
- Already running Claude Code, Codex, Muse, or Grok sessions may need to be
restarted after skill visibility changes. - Third-party skills contain instructions that Skill Manager does not audit or
sandbox. Review their source before installing them.

Install skills as OFF. Add a source for every tool without any tool
seeing its skills until you turn them ON. In the desktop install dialog, turn
on Install as OFF (available in both Install source and Install new). In
the terminal, add--off:skill-manager install https://github.com/example/agent-skills --off --dry-run skill-manager install https://github.com/example/agent-skills --off skill-manager enable --tool claude example-skillLinks are created directly in Skill Manager's disabled directory and never
appear in a tool's skills directory, even briefly. The result is identical to
installing and then turning each skill OFF. Skills that are already installed
keep their current state. -
Toggle a Skill Set for any combination of tools. The Skill Set toggle
dialog now treats Claude, Codex, Muse, and Grok as independent choices, so
one use can target, for example, Claude and Grok. All selects or clears
every tool. -
If saving the install state fails, the links that install created are now
removed for Git sources too, as they already were for local folders.

updatereports new skills. When a repository you installed later adds
skills, updatestill installs nothing, but it now lists the skills that are
not installed and prints the exact command that adds them for the tools the
repository already uses:new skills in example/agent-skills (not installed): new-skill, other-skill install: skill-manager install https://github.com/example/agent-skills --skill new-skill --skill other-skillupdate --dry-runlists new skills already in the local checkout; it still
does not fetch. -
The Sources screen shows new skills on a healthy Git source, with an
Install new action. It opens the install matrix on the existing checkout
with only those skills preselected for the tools the source already uses.
Already installed skills keep their current ON or OFF state. -
Skill names come from upstream directory names, so every argument in the
suggested command is shell-quoted. A name containing control characters is
shown quoted and the command is left out. -
If new skills cannot be checked, for example because two skills share a name,
the update still succeeds and both interfaces show the reason. -
The README is now a short desktop-first introduction, and the complete CLI,
TUI, source, and troubleshooting guide lives indocs/usage.md.

skill-manager repair <git-url> [--dry-run]. When a skill writes
generated files into its own managed checkout, update stops; repair lists the
offending checkout-relative paths, moves them into~/.skill-manager/trash,
restores tracked files from the last fetched commit, and then deletes the
staged copy. An explicit Git URL is always required. updatenow explains why it stopped. Every checkout blocker is classified
and reported with a readable cause. Repairable failures print the exact
repaircommand; detached HEAD, local commits, a changed origin, and link
drift are explained and left for you to decide.- The Sources screen reports
Needs repairbefore any update is attempted,
with a per-source Repair action. A failed update offers the same repair from
its dialog, and the confirmation lists every path that will be removed. - Repair only clears worktree changes. It never runs
git cleanor
reset --hard, never leaves the managed checkout root, never writes
state.jsonor moves symlinks, and refuses to move an installed skill
directory or aSKILL.mdthat the last fetched commit cannot restore. - A failed repair restores the exact pre-operation state: staged paths are moved
back, the Git index is restored, and files the repair recreated are removed.
If any part of that cannot be completed, the recovery data is kept and the
error names what failed.

- Added Muse as a third managed tool. Skill Manager scans, toggles, and
installs skills under~/.config/muse/skills, honoring$XDG_CONFIG_HOME

~/.grok/skills, with the same
reversible move-based ON/OFF contract as the other hosts. - Extended every surface to four tools: CLI and TUI columns and filters, the
Dashboard metrics and context-budget rows, the Skills workspace grid, Skill
Set tool scopes, and Sources install and Extend to tool actions. - Reported Muse and Grok context budgets as labeled filesystem estimates. Only
Claude and Codex expose a provider diagnostic; the Dashboard says so per row. - Taught the first-party Skill Advisor to select and activate skills for a
Muse or Grok host, in addition to Claude Code and Codex. - Refreshed the README screenshots, demo animation, and social preview so the
public media shows all four managed tools.

- Added Skill Sets to the macOS app. Save reusable, tool-agnostic skill
recipes, preview their impact for Claude, Codex, or both, and stage them
through the existing Pending/Apply workflow. - Added the optional first-party Skill Advisor and a path-free CLI
inventory API. The advisor can activate the smallest relevant set of local
inactive skills for one task and return an opaque receipt for explicit,
drift-safe cleanup. - Added Favorites to the macOS Skills workspace. Star managed skills, find
them with the Favorites filter, and keep them ahead of other skills without
changing their ON/OFF state. - Preserved missing Skill Set members and favorite names so they reconnect when
a skill with the same basename is installed again. - Refreshed the public demo and dashboard imagery to reflect the current
