Releases
v0.1.14
This release fixes critical false positives in both the SQL Injection and DoS checkers, improving accuracy and reducing noise.
π Bug Fixes & False-Positive Reductions
- SQL Injection False-Positive Fix: String interpolation is now only flagged if it occurs in the first string argument (the SQL template string). Safe string interpolations inside query bind arguments (e.g.
where("street_number ILIKE ?", "#{value}%")) are no longer flagged. - Pagy Pagination Support: The DoS checker now automatically detects queries wrapped inside
pagy(...)orpagy_countless(...)pagination helpers (both single-line and multi-line formats) and avoids marking them as unbounded queries.
Contributions
Special thanks to @Z2Flow for reporting these false positives!
v0.1.13
This release introduces ignore file support (.guarddogignore), fixes a path resolution bug, and makes configuration initialization more seamless when integrating with Rails.
π New Features & Enhancements
- Ignore File Support (
.guarddogignore): You can now add a.guarddogignorefile in your Rails project root to silence specific checkers or exclude entire files/directories completely.- Exclude a file/directory completely:
db/seeds.rb vendor/ - Exclude specific checkers for specific files/directories:
db/seeds.rb: secrets app/controllers/admin/*: sql_injection, csrf
- Exclude a file/directory completely:
- Automatic Rails Config Integration:
Rails::Guarddog::Scannernow automatically resolves and falls back toRails.application.config.guarddogconfiguration if no configuration object is explicitly passed to its initializer.
π Bug Fixes
- Strict Path Matching: Refactored
BaseCheckerdirectory exclusion/ignores to use relative paths rather than absolute paths. This fixes a bug where absolute path matches in parent directories (such as temp directories containing the wordtest) caused unexpected check suppressions.
Contributions
Special thanks to @Z2Flow for reporting the issue and proposing this feature!
Rails GuardDog v0.1.12
This release introduces significant enhancements to false-positive protections across checkers, directory-based check suppression, and a more flexible configuration API.
π New Features & Enhancements
- Per-Directory Check Suppression (
ignored_checks): You can now silence specific checkers within specific directories (e.g., ignoringsecretsalerts inside test directories) while leaving all other security checks active. By default,secretschecks are now ignored insidespec/andtest/directories.Rails.application.config.guarddog.ignored_checks = { "spec" => %w[secrets], # skip secrets checker in spec/ "test" => %w[secrets], # skip secrets checker in test/ "fixtures" => %w[secrets idor] # skip secrets & idor checkers in fixtures/ }
- Easy Checker Exclusion (
disabled_checkers): A new configuration option allows you to keep all checkers active except a few, making configuration easier to maintain.Rails.application.config.guarddog.disabled_checkers = %w[dos rate_limit]
π Bug Fixes & False-Positive Reductions
- Secrets Checker false-positive elimination:
- Added word boundaries (
\b) to regex patterns to prevent substrings (likeno_token:orreset_password_instructions:) from triggering alerts. - Required secret values to be space-free (
[^\s'"]{6,}) to prevent English translation sentences in locale files from being flagged as hardcoded secrets. - Automatically skip translation locale files (
config/locales/).
- Added word boundaries (
- DoS Checker false-positive elimination:
- Unbounded database query alerts are now only triggered when
.allis called on a PascalCase constant (e.g.User.allorPost.where(...).all). Lowercase receivers (likecurrent_user.permissions.all) and enumerable predicate methods (like.all?) are now ignored. - Added Smart Multiline
.limit()Detection: The checker now looks ahead up to 3 lines to detect chained.limit()calls on subsequent lines or separate variable assignments.# The following patterns are now correctly identified as safe: things = Thing.all .limit(100) things = Thing.all things = things.limit(100)
- Unbounded database query alerts are now only triggered when

π Community Impact
Since v0.1.0 shipped just 24 hours ago:
- 1,220+ downloads π
- Product Hunt noticed (community interest)
- Real bugs caught - Users reporting actual security issues in their apps
- Multiple version iterations (0.1.0 β 0.1.8) based on real-world testing
This rapid iteration shows the community's appetite for practical security tooling that catches what Brakeman misses.
