v1.2.0
Added
- Quiet mode option "Apply the default action automatically": new files get the default action (the one the grace period applies) right away, with no prompt and no waiting dot. Rules still take precedence, files already waiting get the default when you switch it on, and the option only has an effect while Quiet mode is on. With duplicate detection on as well, a confirmed duplicate of a file that is still there is deleted right away instead (to the Trash or permanently, following Expired files), ahead of any rule, and the usual notice with Undo appears. Of two identical files that arrive together the one named like a copy ("name (1)", or Finder's English "name copy" / "name copy 2") goes; if neither name is a copy name, the one that sorts last goes. A duplicate is only deleted automatically while its original is still there and not itself being checked; when the original is scheduled for deletion, the copy goes only if it would be scheduled anyway (a rule matches it or the default action is a timer) and the original is not about to expire, otherwise it follows the normal path.
- Setting "Hide notifications after" (5 seconds to 15 minutes, or Never; 30 seconds by default): the prompt and the reminder hide on their own and the file stays in the list. A "Hides in N s · stays in the list" bar shows the time left; it pauses while the pointer is over the prompt, a key press restarts it, and with VoiceOver running nothing hides by itself.
- Appearance setting (Auto, Light or Dark) for the panel, the list, Settings and onboarding.
- History: the last 10 decisions in the menu bar list, with Put back for files that went to the Trash.
- Statistics in Settings > Data: files handled, moved to the Trash, deleted permanently, kept, scheduled by rules, duplicates deleted and space reclaimed, counted since the oldest entry in history.
- Rules can be reordered by dragging, as well as with Move up / Move down.
Changed
- No "Moved to Trash" notice after a file expires and its pre-expiry reminder was shown (also when you dismissed it or it hid itself). Deleting by hand still shows the notice with Undo, and so does an expiry nobody was reminded of (reminders off, a short timer, a Mac that slept through the reminder) and every permanent deletion; Put back in History restores a trashed file.
- New design: frosted cards, progress rings in the list, a full-width tab bar and grouped cards in Settings, and a redesigned onboarding. The list is its own floating card under the menu bar icon (no popover arrow), one card at a time.
Removed
- The notch presentation, because new Macs replace the notch with an island: the prompt now appears only under the menu bar icon, the "Show new downloads" setting is gone and an old "In the notch" choice is ignored.
Fixed
- Downloads that were still being written when DropKeeper quit are prompted on the next launch.
v1.1.0
Added
- Rules by file type, name pattern or folder: first match wins, reorderable (Move up / Move down), and a matched file skips the prompt with a short notice and a Change button. Starter rules for Installers, Screenshots on Desktop, Images, Archives and Invitations & contacts ship disabled.
- Pre-expiry reminder (on by default, 5 minutes before): Extend by the timer length, Keep or Delete now.
- Duplicate detection in the same folder: the prompt offers "Same as …" and Delete duplicate; checked in the background, can be turned off in Settings. A duplicate that matches a rule still waits for your decision and gets the rule's time once the grace period passes.
- Default action "Last chosen time": the next file gets the time you picked last.
- Ignored files are now name patterns. The default set (
~$*,#*#,*~) skips Office owner files and editor backups. - Reminders, rule notices and "Moved to Trash" appear as bars above the prompt, in one unified panel in the menu bar and in the notch.
Changed
- The prompt preselects what the grace period would apply, including Keep: with the default action set to Keep, Return now keeps the file (before, it scheduled 1 h).
- Settings is split into toolbar tabs (General, Folders, Expiry, Rules, Data, About) in a larger window that opens centered; time values use sliders; About links to the website; the "Inspired by TempCat" line is gone from the About tab (the credit stays in the README).
- Ignored extensions are migrated to name patterns (
*.ext) when you upgrade from 1.0; nothing you set is lost.
v1.0.2
Added
- A "Move to Trash" action in the file list (a "Delete Permanently…" one, with confirmation, in permanent-delete mode) that removes a file right away, following the Expired files setting; the Trash version shows the usual notice with Undo.
Changed
- Releases are signed with the project's own (free, self-signed) certificate instead of an ad hoc signature, so macOS keeps the Downloads permission after updates. This update asks for it one last time.
v1.0.1
Fixed
- The first click on the prompt's timeline now picks the time; before, it only focused the panel and a second click was needed.
- The "Moved to Trash" notice no longer flashes "0 files" while it fades out.
v1.0.0
Added
- Expiry for every new download in watched folders: 30 min, 1 h, 1 day, 10 days or keep (times configurable).
- Prompt under the menu bar icon, optionally from the notch (Automatic follows the pointer), with a timeline to pick the time and buttons that say what they do ("Delete in 1 h", "Keep").
- Menu bar icon with scheduled count, last-10-seconds countdown and a list with Open, Keep, Change time, Show in Finder, Retry and, for a waiting file, Show prompt.
- Click a file name in the prompt or the list to open the file in its default app.
- Finder file icons and Quick Look thumbnails in the prompt, the list and the notice.
- "Moved to Trash" notice with Undo; optional permanent delete with confirmation.
- Tracks renames and moves inside watched folders; files moved out are kept; files present before install are never touched.
- Survives sleep, relaunch and a lost database (expiry stored on the file).
- Optional "Temporary" Finder tag, ignored extensions, quiet mode, a default action applied after a grace period, history retention.
- Several watched folders, launch at login, English, Czech, German, Spanish and French with a language picker in Settings (including the system privacy prompts).
- 100 % offline: no networking code, enforced in CI.
