Discrete CLI Suite v.0.9.8

Action required for headless miners

--mining-wallet alone no longer starts mining. Add --start-mining to the
command line. Service units that omit it will start, synchronize, and never hash.

discreted --mining-wallet /secure/miner.wallet \
          --mining-password-file /secure/miner-password.txt \
          --start-mining --mining-threads 4 --no-console

Mining

  • Mining now begins only once the node is synchronized, on every path: the
daemon startup flags, the daemon console start_mining, and the /start_mining
RPC that simplewallet and the GUI wallet use. A request made during sync is
armed and starts by itself when sync completes, instead of hashing on a tip the
    network has already moved past.
  • New --start-mining startup flag. --mining-wallet on its own now opens the
container, checks the password, derives the identity and scrubs it — a fail-fast
startup validation — then leaves the miner idle.
  • The daemon console start_mining accepts --mining-wallet <path>, so a working
headless command line can be pasted into the console unchanged. The positional
    form (start_mining miner.wallet 4) still works.
  • Unknown --options are rejected instead of being silently taken as the wallet
path, which used to surface as the misleading
Failed to read wallet version from '--mining-wallet': Wrong version.
  • A missing wallet file now reports Cannot open wallet file '<path>' rather than
    a version error.

Wallet recovery

  • The 25-word recovery phrase now requires its checksum word. The legacy
12- and 24-word Electrum forms are rejected. 12 words produced a master seed
with 128 bits of entropy, half of it a verbatim copy of the other half; neither
form was checksum-verified, so a dropped or transposed word restored a valid
looking, different, empty wallet with no diagnostic. Phrases produced by
Discrete wallets are unaffected — they have always been 25 words.
  • Phrases pasted with newlines or tabs are now accepted. simplewallet's own
export_keys backup writes the phrase as a multi-line grid, which
--mnemonic-seed could not previously read back.
  • --mnemonic-file no longer drops the last character of a file that has no
trailing newline, and no longer aborts on an empty file.
  • New cross-implementation test suite pins the seed ↔ phrase mapping against the
web wallet's encoder, so the two implementations cannot drift apart silently.

Robustness and hardening

  • HTTP bodies are read incrementally instead of pre-allocating the announced
Content-Length, so a peer that announces a large body and then sends nothing
holds only what it actually sent.
  • The blockchain synchronizer validates node response intervals: height-range
overflow, responses starting beyond the consumer's height, and new-block heights
outside the returned interval are rejected instead of trusted. (#14)
  • POSIX signals are dispatched outside raw handler context. (#13)
  • HttpClient requests are bounded and in-flight node calls are interruptible, so
a stalled or unreachable daemon can no longer wedge wallet shutdown.

Consensus

  • Mainnet checkpoint added at height 10000.

Build

  • Windows CI sources Boost from the userdocs/boost GitHub releases with a
    checksum instead of SourceForge.
  • HTTP framing test includes fixed for case-sensitive filesystems. (#15)

Thanks to @MatthewFreeman for #13, #14 and #15.

Discrete CLI Suite v.0.9.5

@aivve aivve released this 31 Jul 02:34

What's Changed

  • Actually show registered accounts cout by @aivve in #4
  • Drop T from outContext so deposit scanning is O(1) instead of enumerated by @aivve in #5
    • H-I-A-T-C deposit-subaddress scanning previously folded the routing index T into the outContext hash used to derive each output's AEAD key, so a receiver had to guess T by brute force (scanPqOutputTWindow, bounded by the wallet's local depositCount) before it could decrypt. That made deposit funds unrecoverable from the seed alone if the wallet-file's deposit count was ever lost.
    • outContext now depends only on inputsHash/kemCt/outputIndex (new domain discrete-pq-out-context-v2); T travels solely inside the already-encrypted payload and is read back after a single decrypt. Uniqueness still comes from kemCt (ML-KEM encapsulation is randomized), unaffected by this change.
    • outContext is never validated by consensus — only the wire sizes and signing digest are — so this is a wallet-software-only change: no fork, no genesis change, no wire format change.
    • A receiver-side legacy fallback (legacyOutContextV1, unchanged formula, tried at T=0) keeps every pre-existing mainnet output scannable, since no nonzero-T deposit has ever been issued.
Added enableLegacyDepositRescan (off by default) as an explicit walletd recovery lever, in case an unupgraded or hand-rolled sender ever mints a legacy nonzero-T output — nothing in consensus prevents that, though none has been observed.
