MPFever lets several players play the same Transport Fever 3 world together, each in their own copy of the game, over the internet or a local network.

MPFever is still in active development. You may meet bugs, reloads or a crash now and then: back up the savegames you play with, and please report problems.

What it does

  • Two ways to play, chosen by the host:
    • One company for everybody: all players run the same company (shared money, vehicles, lines).
    • One company per player: every player has their own company on the same map, with its own money, roads, stations, depots, vehicles, lines, loans, contracts and colour. A company belongs to the player's Steam account: they find it again after a reconnection or in a later session. Companies can share their tracks, stations and depots (open, private or with a toll), give each other money, and go bankrupt.
  • Everything a player does appears on every game at the same moment: roads, tracks, signals, stops, stations, depots, buildings, terrain edits, trees, the bulldozer, vehicles, lines, game speed and pause.
  • Join through Steam with no port to open, from an invitation or « Join game » in the Steam friends list. Joining by IP address works too.
  • A list of public servers: the dedicated servers open to everybody show in the Public servers tab of the multiplayer page, and a click joins one.
  • The games stay identical. Every 10 seconds they compare their state. Money differences are corrected at once. Any other lasting difference triggers an automatic resynchronisation: every game reloads the host's game, then play resumes.
  • A short connection drop does not reload the game: the host waits up to 60 seconds for the player to come back.
  • In-game window and chat: an icon in the bottom bar shows the sync state, and the MPFever window has the players, the chat, companies and settings.
  • Dedicated server (separate archive): a PC of its own runs the world for everybody, with the game's display or without it (far less work for the PC). It shows in the public server list unless its owner says no.
  • Automatic updates: MPFever updates itself from GitHub. Every player needs the same version.

Limits

  • Windows only. Made for the current Steam version of Transport Fever 3.
  • Tested mostly with 2 players.
  • Mods that act on the game by themselves can make the games drift apart. See Mods.
  • The tutorial is not supported.

Support

MPFever is free and open source. If you enjoy it, you can support it on Ko-fi, or leave a comment or a like on Nexus.

Credits: dkdknight (author and maintainer), SlikerDev (the launcher's design, the 13 languages, the in-game window and chat), and every tester who sent their logs.
