ttyak 0.12.2 is a fixes release: VIPs work in notifications the way they do in Slack, huddle and late notifications are tidied up, and ttyak's private files on Windows are better protected.

What you will notice first

  • VIPs during a pause. New row in F6 → Notifications: "Always allow notifications from VIPs", kept on Slack (the same setting as in Slack, off by default; it needs a paid plan, and on a free plan the row says so). When it is on, a message from a VIP gets through snooze and your notification schedule if it is a direct message or group DM, or mentions a person, a user group or a channel. @here, @channel and @everyone don't count. Being a VIP still never makes a message notify that wouldn't otherwise. This works in the workspace you are looking at and in the others alike.
  • A huddle's notification goes when the huddle ends, or when its invitation is withdrawn (for example you joined on another device). The status line's "missed … huddle" stays.
  • Late notifications are handled. When the desktop's notification server answers late, the notification is still tracked: it is replaced, withdrawn or closed like any other, and one that was read or replaced in the meantime is closed when it arrives.

Windows

  • Hardening: ttyak's private files on Windows are now readable by you, SYSTEM and Administrators only (the session, drafts, update-check state, the status file, and the temporary copies of browser cookies made at sign-in). Where the file system can't hold permissions, ttyak goes on as before.
  • Hardening: ttyak uninstall and the update cleanup remove only regular files as old copies of the program, never a folder or a link with such a name.
  • The toast setting is read in the background, so showing a notification never waits for it; F6 shows "reading…" until the first answer.
  • Exit: ttyak no longer waits on a stuck notification call to quit, and an update that is being installed finishes before ttyak quits.
  • Windows Terminal older than 1.14 is documented as not supported: a full-screen ttyak there counts as busy, so its notifications go out without sound, and a click doesn't bring the window forward.

Help text

The in-app help now matches what the code does: F6 help (on macOS the system's do-not-disturb can't be read, so that row has no effect there; which terminals show notifications by name; what "Hide quiet" keeps), F1 and the composer's command list (/dnd, /status … for …, /dm up to 8 other people), screen sharing (Wayland asks, elsewhere the main screen) and the huddle view's audio line.

Also

  • The wiki is the manual (https://github.com/dmytrobsp/ttyak/wiki); the zips no longer carry the README, only ttyak (ttyak.exe) and the two licences.
  • Publish tooling: tools/wiki/publish.sh resets a reused --wiki-dir to the wiki, so local leftovers are never published, and pushes after a dry run.
  • Small leftovers from 0.11.0 are done, among them the Arch rebuild screen, now checked live.

Known issue

  • Windows: keys typed in the first ~0.4 s after ttyak starts are lost (#1). After that input is fine. Same as 0.12.0 and 0.12.1.

Tried for this release

  • On Windows 11 (a virtual machine): old copies in the uninstall/update cleanup (a folder link named like an old copy was left alone, a regular old copy removed); the session, status and drafts files and the update-check state protected for you, SYSTEM and Administrators only; F6 → Notifications showing the route; a test notification shown as a toast; quitting took well under a second.
  • Arch Linux (a container): the update screen for the Arch package from the status-line pill, copying the link, opening it, and rebuilding from the release's recipes (0.12.0 → 0.12.1).
  • The new VIP row on a test workspace: switching it on and off changed the setting on Slack and back.

Not tried: a VIP message getting through a real pause end to end; a mid-install quit on Windows; the last review fixes on Windows (unit tests only); macOS (unit tests and the build only); the uninstall with a real folder link.

Install or update as before: https://ttyak.sh — installed with the script, ttyak offers the update itself (F6 → Updates).
