Wi-Fi Guard v0.1.2

@drewboardman drewboardman released this 20 Sep 00:29

Fixes controller scrolling stopping near “Save network” in Game Mode.

The bottom help notices are now explicit Steam focus targets, so D-pad navigation can move into them and scroll the final text into view. Error notices use the same focus behavior.

Type checking and production build verified. Actual Game Mode navigation still needs confirmation on a Steam Deck.

Errors now appear in red with short, specific messages for known failures. Unexpected failures show “An unknown error occurred.” Technical details stay in logs.

  • Covers network detection, saved settings, Steam controls, timeouts, and recovery failures.
  • Keeps loading and waiting states neutral.
  • Applies the same concise messages to the panel and crash fallback.

Validated with 62 automated tests, TypeScript checking, and the Linux production build. Includes the installable ZIP and SHA-256 checksum.

Wi-Fi Guard pauses Steam downloads while connected to a chosen Wi-Fi network and restores downloads when leaving, while preserving pre-existing pauses.

  • Event-driven Steam network and download subscriptions: no periodic polling, pings, or active Wi-Fi scans.
  • Native Decky panel with current-network selection, an editable SSID, and a master switch.
  • Pure decision algebra, small effect interfaces, and separate Steam/Decky/storage/NetworkManager adapters.
  • Fault containment for callbacks, async operations, React rendering, startup, and cleanup. Bounded event processing and operation deadlines stop automatic protection on unexpected faults; recovery requires an explicit retry.
  • Atomic settings and pause-ownership persistence for reload recovery.

Validation: 53 automated tests, TypeScript checking, production build, and archive validation. Live Steam Deck acceptance (including sleep/wake and native API compatibility) still requires on-device testing. The frontend shares Steam's process; plugin-level fault containment cannot guarantee against native Steam or OS crashes.

Install by extracting the ZIP's Wi-Fi Guard directory into ~/homebrew/plugins/ on the Deck and restarting Decky, or use the ZIP asset URL with Decky's developer “Install Plugin from URL” option. Remove the unpublished Wi-Fi Download Guard prototype first if previously sideloaded, and configure the SSID again.

SHA256SUMS contains the checksum for the installable ZIP. See the repository README and architecture document for recovery behavior and scope.
