Remote Dev Containers v0.2.0 — First Stable Release 🚀
We're excited to announce Remote Dev Containers v0.2.0, our first stable release!
This milestone delivers a reproducible, security-hardened, browser-accessible development environment built for Docker, NAS and homelab deployments.
The first stable release focuses on AMD64, single-user environments running on trusted private networks, with OpenAI Codex as the primary supported coding agent.
✨ Highlights
Unified development environment
- One canonical Docker image shared by the launcher and enabled coding agents.
- Integrated OpenAI Codex with browser-based terminal access.
- Optional Google Antigravity integration, maintained as experimental.
- Persistent projects, agent configuration and conversation sessions.
- Project selection, creation and management from the terminal menus.
- Session recovery and reconnection through the existing browser/tmux workflow.
🛠️ Developer tooling
- 53-command universal tooling baseline with common development, diagnostic and validation utilities.
- Ruff, pytest, pre-commit, Mike Farah yq, shfmt and actionlint.
- Python 3.14 as the default interpreter, with Python 3.15 available for compatible projects.
- Project-specific tool versions and environments take precedence over bundled defaults.
- Reproducible dependencies with reviewed version pins, lockfiles and artifact checksums.
🔒 Security and reliability
- Read-only container root filesystems and restricted Linux capabilities.
- Isolated persistent storage for individual agent roles.
- No privileged containers, Docker socket mounts or unnecessary host access.
- Authenticated agent terminals and a lightweight launcher for trusted networks.
- Immutable dependency references, third-party notices and SPDX SBOMs.
- Automated vulnerability scanning and release-blocking checks for fixable critical vulnerabilities.
🔄 Automation and releases
- Automated upstream dependency discovery with human-reviewed pull requests.
- Safe deferral of incompatible upstream releases without weakening lockfile or checksum verification.
- Separate experimental
edgeand stable release channels. - Versioned, digest-verified AMD64 container publication.
latestreserved exclusively for successful stable releases.
✅ Validation
This release follows extensive automated CI testing and real-world TrueNAS SCALE acceptance, including developer tooling, persistent agent sessions, project isolation and container security boundaries.
The release pipeline independently builds, smoke-tests, scans and verifies the published images.

For reproducible deployments and rollbacks, pin the verified OCI digest rather than relying on mutable tags.
⚠️ Scope and limitations
This first stable release supports the AMD64, single-user, private-network development environment.
- ARM64 runtime support is not yet included.
- Google Antigravity remains optional and experimental.
- Direct public Internet exposure is not supported.
- Enterprise multi-tenancy is outside the current scope.
- The public interface may continue evolving during the 0.x release series.
