First release
First release of BitOps, bringing the original 2021 C++ console demo up to current standards.
What's in it:
- Interactive menu for bit manipulation on a 32-bit value: set, clear, toggle, negate, and shift, with the decimal value and binary representation shown after every operation
- The long-unmerged bitops-review branch merged into main: looped menu, exit option, range-checked input, and a CMake build
- Bit operations split into a testable bitops_core library using std::uint32_t, so 32-bit is a guarantee, not an assumption
- C++17 build (CMake 3.16+) with warnings on, plus GitHub Actions CI on Ubuntu, Windows, and macOS
- Fixed input handling so Ctrl-D / closed stdin exits cleanly instead of looping forever
- Dependency-free test suite run by CTest, MIT LICENSE, and a rewritten README with a real terminal sample session
Build and run:
cmake -S . -B build -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release
cmake --build build
./build/bit_manipulation
Verified before release: clean build with zero warnings, CTest 100% passed, and scripted toggle and EOF runs correct.
Note: this release ships source only, no prebuilt binaries. The old compiled binary from the original upload remains in pre-merge git history only; it is not in the current tree.
