Game Boy Advance games no longer crackle at the start of a new game. 2.1.0 measured the sound each game sends in its first half second, and a single uneven frame at the start of some games (every new game of Metroid: Zero Mission, some of Metroid Fusion) made it play the sound at the wrong speed for ten seconds. That measuring is gone. Super Game Boy games in the Game Boy Color folder, the case it was added for, are still corrected, by the rate they are known to send.

Also:

  • On the GKD Pixel 2, loud game sound no longer crackles on the speaker or headphones: the sound chip clipped sound close to full scale before its own volume control. Games now play 2 dB quieter, as music in Muse always has, so full volume in a game is a little quieter than before. A USB-C DAC is unchanged.

Updating from 2.1 or 2.0

With TortOS Installer 3.0.0, choose the device and Update. The games, music, saves and settings stay.

Coming from 1.x, follow 2.0.0's notes: on the Brick that's Move to TortOS 2, which installs 2.1.1.

New install

With the TortOS Installer, choose the device and Fresh install. By hand, as in the README: write TortOS-v2.1.1-brick.img.xz (Brick and Brick Hammer) or TortOS-v2.1.1-pixel2.img.xz (Pixel 2) with any program that writes disk images. Each image's -sources.tar holds the licenses and source of the open-source software in it. The Brick's GPU libraries and Wi-Fi firmware are closed and not included; its PROPRIETARY.txt names them. SHA256SUMS has the checksums of all four files.
